About
Co-Owners Brian Piccini & Chef Christopher Coombs are proud of their award winning Restaurant, Deuxave in the Back Bay. The inspiration behind the restaurant's American Nouveau Cuisine is seasonality, with a focus on working with the finest farms and purveyors, sourcing out the freshest, local ingredients and amplifying their magnificence. The cuisine is strongly rooted in the nouvelle techniques of contemporary French cuisine, married with the splendor of American ingredients in a refined, but casual setting. Deuxave's (pronounced doo-ave) name plays homage to its location at the corners of Commonwealth Ave and Massachusetts Ave.

Overall and pleasant experience with a smart waitress and appealing choices. The duck was particularly memorable.

Impeccable service and gorgeous menu with many fresh seasonal ingredients. All 3 courses were excellent. Would recommend for a special dinner.

Food was ok. Took them two hours to get all the starters. Nowhere to see the waiter, had to ask the front desk for help after more than an hour without food and without the waiter showing up. Will never go again.

Ok so we came here for the Bastille Day celebration. We thought let’s go to a French restaurant. Well first no one here speaks French but ok. The food is ok too but just ok - the last kudos they received were from near ten...years ago so matters have deteriorated. Ah but the service - truculent, inattentive and downright rude. Ask fo anything and you get a stare. Lord help you if you ask for something because it’s taking long, you get: I KNOW SIR with the grumpiest look. And for the pièce de resistance: I wanted to order cognac but didn’t want to spend $300 an ounce on Louis XIII so I asked the waiter for a recommendation and he said Ferrand which I didn’t know and what does he say? Pretty much an insult: really (says he) everyone knows it’s the gold standard in cognac ( with the snootiest expression) So let’s put down our diners Honestly dinner is supposed a pleasant experience not this! Please avoid so they learn how to do service and dining experience right.More

Second time at Deuxave, and went upon a friends suggestion. Wow, were we under and overwhelmed once again. Underwhelmned at the food and overwhelmed at the prices. We realize prices have gone up since Covid, but the prices here for decent food were just crazy....And to top it off, they charge heavily for water, without any hint or option before billing for it. "Would you prefer Still or Sparkling" normally that means tap or bottled. Obviously not here. Still meant still bottled at $6 per bottle. That kind of sneaky trick just sours and evening in mu opinion. Give a diner the option. And bread is charged for but at least noted on the menu. Apps and Entrees were good, Chicken for one of us and fish for the other. Good, not unbelievable and tiny tiny potions. Drinks were expensive as well, as the least expensive glass of wine was $19, and the cocktails were comparable. Decor is pretty, and service was nice and highly respectable. Given we routinely go to the other French restaurants in the South End, we felt we had some good comparisons. Dollar for dollar, we did not find Deuxave worth the expense.More

One would expect that on a Tuesday night a restaurant of that caliber would deliver. It did not! There was close to a one hour delay between appetizers and main course (both good but not outstanding). The numerous waitstaff was both competent and quite aloof....This contributed to a very impersonal atmosphere despite comfortable surroundings. Background music was obtrusive at times. Prices were very high and not justifiable given small portions (the tuna tartar looked completely lost in the corner of a large plate; 7 tortellinis for over $30!). It is clear, however, that much care goes into making each dish. In these COVID times, expectations should be kept in check, but when it comes to price to quality/ratio, Deuxave really fails and was a disappointment.More

Food was excellent, but service was spotty. It seems to me it was just not the right time to go there on a Monday evening. Some items came out late, the wine was late, and others were just not paired properly or the details missed...my the staff. Great place, let's hope it does not slip...More

Food has always been good and it is. Service very attentive. Changes to Deuxave they now charge for bread and water. I am so against this I will never go back. It is a very expensive restaurant and they need to such it up and...include those in the price of a meal. The Manager wants to be your friend. He isn't and makes you feel a little creepy. Saw him taste a glass of the customers wine and give it back to her not sure it might have been a friend but in the day with Covid everywhere that was just stupid. There are a lot of other restaurants to support who are not nickel and doing you. Peach20More

I have eaten here several times and enjoyed it greatly. Today’s experience was disappointing. First we needed to wait to be seated at 5:30 PM when the restaurant was fairly empty. Second, the only option of water is $7 per bottle. Tap water is not...available. The duck confit was very good. The foie gras is microscopic, about 1 inch square. It is served with a bizarre combination of flavors that tasted like maple syrup and strawberry jelly. For $40 or so it was a major disappointment. The sea bass was delicious. All in all the meal was good, but not worth the $200 for 2 entree and 2 appetizers- with no alcohol or dessert. La Voile on Newbury has more consistently good food at a much lower price point.More

Stopped in on Marathon Monday for lunch. The menu is very limited and not many options for kids at all. It is also very expensive. The overpriced burger and watery clam chowder with excessive ingredients made me not want to go back. If you are...with kids, go elsewhere.More

Went there as part of our anniversary weekend visit to Boston. As always we relied on TripAdvisor ratings. Unfortunately this place fell short of a top rated restaurant in Boston. A great Burgundy Grand Cru heavy wine list is wonderful, but many of these need...some time decanting to fully enjoy. The sommelier was very informed and helpful. The highly rated onion soup required a knife to cut through the bone marrow crouton, had little flavor, and was served “warm”. The famous duck, which we were told by our server is what brings people to this place, was also not very flavorful. Both of these issues had been commented on for years in previous reviews. The pate was delicious, but should be served with thinner cut toasted bread. The bolognaise was excellent. It appears to me that this place misses as a restaurant for out of town visitors. Perhaps a suggestion to preselect your wine and have it appropriately opened ahead of time is an option.More

We enjoyed an excellent meal here with my wife, mother-in-law, and daughter, who was having her 19th birthday (they brought a candle in her dessert!). Appetizers, entrees, and desserts were all wonderful, and the service was the best.

Four of us in a family including a teen had a nice meal here recently. Service was friendly and unobtrusive. Food was quite good: Beet salad, French Onion Soup, Duck Fries, Agnoletti, Bolognese, and especially the Duck. Entrees took a leisurely long time to arrive...after appetizers were done, but not unexpected at a pricey French restaurant. My only real beef was that the water they offered was $7/bottle, which they did not tell us, but they did pour out of the bottle so the fact it wasn't free was not a true surprise, but they poured a second after the first was gone, without asking. I do not think that is ok. We had a gift card to defray the cost, I don't think we would go here without that as it is much more expensive than I would like, especially since French is not at the top of my list. If you want a very nice French restaurant in a central downtown location, this could work for you. Especially if you have an expense account :)More

I have dined at Deuxave 7 or 8 times. The last two experiences were disappointing. About a year ago, I took my wife and son. We had a tasting menu that was drab and serving timing was off. Two days ago, I had a work...dinner. The food was OK. But, it seems like the menu never changes. The waiter asked whether we wanted sparkling or still water. I said regular water was fine, but we got still water. Since it was a work dinner, I did not want to make a big deal about it. I ordered the cod with Tarbais beans. The menu made a big deal that the Cod was served with Tarbais bean, and as someone who cooks with these beans, I understand why. They are expensive. The dish arrived with what appeared to be navy beans, not Tarbais beans. Historically, I liked Deuxave. The prices are steep and I OK with it, if they execute well. Lately, this is not the case.More
