Two families of 4 ate lunch and everyone loved their lunch selection. the whole fish was not only delicious but all the kids had a good laugh when it was delivered.

This outdoor spot is a great place for lunch, a drink and probably breakfast as well. The food is surprisingly good as are their drinks (not surprising). You order upon arrival and your order is brought to your table.

My family and I were on vacation in Maui (in the Lahaina area) and happened upon Down the Hatch on our first day. Because of the great food and service we ended up going there multiple times during our stay both for dine in and...takeout. When we did dine in we arrived early (prior to the rush) but we noticed that both for lunch and dinner it's pretty popular during peak times and there is a line to get seated. They do a great job of managing social distancing, all of the staff were wearing masks and there were signs posted all over informing the guest to do so also (when not eating or drinking). When it comes to the food my wife and I really enjoyed the Lava Lava Shrimp Tacos (grilled), the Grilled Fish Salad (Ahi tuna grilled perfectly), Spicy Caesar Salad, and the Local Fish Tacos. All were fantastic. The kids (5 & 7) loved the Cheeseburger, Chicken Fingers and Fries, and Cheese Quesadilla. We once ordered the Fish and Fries (off the kids menu) and there was a strong beer flavor in the batter that was a real turn off for the kids. Also I think that if it were fried a little harder and had been more crispy the kids would have liked it better. But the quality of the fish is very high so I can understand the trade-off of not frying to a crisp. The seasoned fries that come with the kids meals are great! My wife and I also enjoyed some of the local brews they had on tap as well as the outstanding house margarita (which they will put in a Mason jar for take out orders). The service was fast, takeout orders always ready on time and the staff was consistently nice. Plus when you dine with kids they get a free order of shave ice (yes “shave” not “shaved”). Great happy hour! Good food and drinks n a nice open and airy area of Lahaina across from the banyan tree.

Down the hatch is located right in the middle of every thing, across the street and downstairs from the banyan tree on Front Street. The drinks, food and live music are amazing!!!
