New Owners-Quality Has Declined

When I was here in 2015, the building was a hole in the wall mess but the food was FANTASTIC, as in, we ate here 4 times in 6 days. Now the building looks all polished and the food is MEH and the service...well, I went to order and had to wait AN HOUR because a delivery truck had dropped off a pallet of products so even though they had customers in line, they just "closed" by putting a sign out that said closed-right in front of me (at 1:00 pm). I waited until they put away all their product and "reopened". I ordered my trusty favorite, only to find out I could no longer add avocado or any other add ons. Order comes as is. So when I get the order, the shrimp are still cooked well and pretty flavorful, but the rest of the taco is bland. The old tacos used a crispy red cabbage slaw and Pico de Gallo that was full of flavor from fresh tomatoes, onions, etc and a delightfully seasoned drizzle. This was more like limp pale yellow pre-shredded cabbage with a spoon of day-old salsa on it. I nearly cried and ended up throwing half my food in the trash.

Great fish and chips

The fish was battered with a crisp and golden batter and the fries were perfectly done. We came here because the line at Bubba’s was so long (we were eating our food and the people in front of me for that line were still waiting to order) We got two garlic shrimp and rice (worth the $2/order for them to be peeled), chicken tenders, fish and chips and coconut shrimp. I’m glad we stopped, island fish and chips is fresher and more exotic than the mainland equivalent.

Good shrimp options

We had the Fried shrimp , Fire Rock spicy shrimp plate & Bahai plate with coconut sauce for lunch one day after scuba diving. We ordered take out, as not much dine in seating. Worth a try if you enjoy shrimp, and they do have chicken tenders on the menu for non seafood lovers.

This place is unhealthy and unsanitary, at least the outside seating anyway. I kid you not...seats spotted with bird poop. Chickens literally walking on chairs and tables and pecking at leftovers. Shrimp plate is drowned in oil. Stay away.

Amazing shrimp with a local vibe

Very friendly people, I asked for whatever the cashier would recommend, and got the aloha, which was incredibly delicious. Definitely the place to go for an alternative to the expensive food or burgers surrounding it. A more local, very very tasty place. Best meal of my trip!

Go For the Fried Shrimp, Not the Tacos

We ended up here after getting in late from our flight, and wanting to grab a quick dinner. The other place nearby was slammed, and Savage Shrimp only had about 3 people in line. So we decided to go shrimp. Probably should have waited in the other place's line. My wife ordered the coconut fried shrimp, with rice, and I got the garlic shrimp tacos with fries. The coconut shrimp was actually very good, as was the rice when you mixed in a little of the shrimp cocktail sauce. The garlic shrimp tacos on the other had, were not good at all. The taco shells were terrible, and the garlic shrimp & vegetables seemed to have no seasoning at all. The fries were actually pretty good though. If we ever tried it again, I would definitely go with one of the fried shrimp options, and skip the tacos.

We read the reviews and decided to try it! The food had good favor and there was plenty of it. The shrimp was delicious and the Frys wee good. The white fish was over-done and dry; but the flavor was good.

Our guests asked to come back for a second meal here. The " spicy" dishes have spice but weren't overwhelming (except for one eater!). The tacos are soft tortillas and are hard to pick up. The folks who ordered those ended up eating with a knife and fork. The shrimp plate with garlic retained good flavor after the shrimp were peeled (which we did ourselves). The plates have 10 shrimp plus rice and mustard dressed slaw. The French fries were crispy and take out ketchup was provided. If you want something prosaic, there is plain fried shrimp. Note: this is takeout only. There are only a few tables outside so we took the meals home to eat. The food was prepared quickly and each meal was labeled.

Tasty shrimp plates

Ate here twice, shrimp plates both times. Enjoyed them. We both had garlic shrimp one time, Bahia and the hot one with Grasshoppa sauce the second. Warning: Grasshoppa is HOT. Friendly guy at the counter who remembered us. But not a place to go if you're in a hurry... I think he also did the cooking. All in all a good value for Kauai.

Pretty delicious shrimp

We ate here when nothing else was open. To be honest it wasn't our first choice but we were very satisfied. My wife got the coconut shrimp and I got the shrimp tacos. We loved the food but the ordering was a little difficult. Whoever took our orders was very short with us and kind of yelled at us what we can't do with the order. With it being the only food place in the area open around lunchtime there weren't many places to sit and enjoy the tasty meal. Not really their fault just something to consider.

This little shrimp spot is delicious. They have several different ways of SAVAGE shrimp. I had the butter and garlic, my husband went for something with HEAT. They were amazing. If you are dining alone, beware, a chicken may join you at the table.

Small, informal, unpretentious. The shrimp were fantastic (garlic shrimp is the fave). A place like this is one to keep it simple. If you do, you will be pleased. Excellent flavor, food arrived HOT and reasonably priced. What’s not to love? A quick word about the rice: it is the traditional sticky rice and isn’t covered with a lot of stuff. It is meant to be simple. If this isn’t your style add some soy sauce or sriracha.

We were not sure about this place. The menu looked decent and we ordered fish and chips and fire rock shrimp plate. The fish was OK but the tartar sauce was probably store purchased. The fire Rock shrimp was probably boiled shrimp with Sriracha sauce.

We were pretty disappointed in this place. It smelled delicious when we walked up and my mom really wanted fish and chips and they had the best deal we could find. I saw the coconut shrimp with rice and Coleslaw that someone was eating and it looked good so I went for that. The food came up pretty quickly, in about 10 minutes. Both of our orders were wrong. I did not receive my rice and Coleslaw but instead fries and the dip to dip my shrimp in was tartar sauce? Not a good combination at all, but that was all I had. I’m pretty sure they messed up and I was supposed to have gotten an orange sauce. So just be sure if you order to go that you open it all up and check it before you leave! My dad’s fish looked like frozen fish sticks. It wasn’t any better than mine. Honestly, the fries were the best part of the meal and that isn’t saying much! We should have gone to Bubba’s right next door. Everyone was raving about it when we first arrived. I am betting it’s worth the extra few bucks for better food!

Pretty unimpressed

Thought it would be better. Coconut shrimp was scalding hot and just OK. Sauce was just OK. Lump of sticky white rice was unnecessary. Cole slaw was slapped on the plate for not sure what reason. Food was ready in 60 seconds and that was probably the best thing about it. Cash only. I won’t be back.
