I recently visited here and was amazed by the coziness of the place. It was not overly stuffy for a fancy restaurant, but people were well dressed. You could tell that this place put weight on the whole experience. We ordered the 4 course prix fixed meal. I had one of the special appetizers, a seafood dish in puff pastry while by boyfriend had the sauteed veal sweetbreads. Both were very solid. This was followed by the house salad, and the Hunter Duo's entree and Maple Duck Breast. The star of the show was the Maple Duck Breast, it was amazingly tender with the delicious Grand Marnier Sauce. I also loved that each entree had small little bits of poached pears, apples and compotes to add to the overall variety of the dishes. We ended with the Grand Marnier and Hazlenut Souffles which were both divine. I forgot to mention that we also ordered a bottle of Alsatian wine which paired perfectly at the recommendation of the sommelier. The meal was amazing but the only thing I would say would be the price of the overall meal and perhaps slightly on the service. I only say this because of the price paid for the meal, generally you would expect service to match. The person helping us that night on several occasions had to ask what dish we ordered and forgot that we had ordered souffles (which they tell you to request at the beginning of your meal) and brought us out dessert menus until we told him and he had a very surprised look on his face. These are just small details but something I note more highly when the food is pricier than a place I would normally dine at. Many of the items, had price upgrades which can creep up when added together. For instance, souffles are an additional cost and some salads are also additional costs besides the standard house salad. With everything added together, it can really become quite expensive. I would consider this a wonderful place to bring someone special or to celebrate a special occasion for any person who enjoys old style cooking. This is not a place for someone who craves the experimental and it's not supposed to be, but be sure to know this before going in! I'm looking forward to trying their less expensive lunch/patio brunch options in the future to see how it compares to their dinner experience!

My husband and I went this past Thursday for our monthly date night dinner. This has been a restaurant on our list to try for a very long time. Being a week night it was very intimate. A smaller crowd of guests but still a very full and very attentive staff. There was never a period of time longer than 3-5 mins that we were thoroughly attended to. They do encourage or put forward the prixe fix menu even though they do offer a la carts options it is not something they put out up front. I am not the biggest eater so a full well portioned 4 course meal with between dish additions seemed a little too much for me. I did order a la carte. While my husband ordered the fix menu. Breads first followed by a complementary small portion of lentil soup. Delicious lobster bisque and wagyu beef cheeks well portioned for an appetizer. Followed by my husbands sale which I omitted, we were then provided a complementary lemon sorbet palate cleanser. I throughly enjoyed the veal scallopini which I felt was a very large portion and my husband the beef tenderloins a perfect mediums rare. Again a complimentary meringue, served with chocolate ice cream and a raspberry sauce that was to die for. We enjoyed the chocolate soufflé which was amazing and not too rich to stomach and he enjoyed the creams brûlée. Followed by complementary truffles. So much amazing food. Unbeatable service. Incredible food. Worth the very reasonable cost for a high end restaurant. I can’t wait to return. Portion sizes were much large than anticipated as we have visited many many high end testing menus.

Since we no longer live in the Washington metro area, going to Chez Francois requires some forethought and the reward is a great dining experience. Classic Alsatian cuisine with excellent service that is not stuffy. The prix-fixe menu offers a variety of choices for each course. Every choice we have made over the years has been a rewarding experience.

Our family of 8 recently celebrated a birthday at LAuberge Chez Francois. We were very impressed with the service and ambiance, the food, on the other hand, was disappointing as there was no sophistication in flavors. We were offered the Prix Fixe menu. The server explained that the main course price (average $95) included an appetizer, a salad, a main course and dessert. The french onion soup was great but nothing special. The lobster bisque had a weird after taste and the salad had way too much tangy salad dressing. We all liked the crème brûlée but the rest of the desserts were huge and not flavorful. For the main course we ordered seafood and while everything was cooked perfectly, the taste was definitely not worth the average $95 Prix Fixe menu price. To provide perspective, our taste buds were blown away by our recent experience at the Bethesda Mon Ami Gabi (Highly recommend their $16.95 Truffle and Brie burger).

The setting is beautiful and it always has been, that hasn’t changed. The service has declined tremendously. Our waiter forgot our salads, served the wrong drink orders, messed up two dinner orders and was generally not available. The food was average at best yet the prices continue to increase and the quality continues to deteriorate. Such a shame because this used to be the best place around, not anymore.

I treated my husband to a special dinner here the other night and we both enjoyed it immensely. Let me recount briefly. It was our first time dining here, and a 30 minute drive from our home. We considered Uber but decided to save the money. On a Saturday night we didn’t hit any traffic, but it is pretty dark and the streets are narrow which is a consideration. We were surprised by the very retro exterior of the building, but found the dining room cozy and the service excellent. Fireplace is very charming and the staff are exceptionally accommodating. We had a difficult time choosing among all delicious sounding options but in the end I had the lobster bisque and my husband had bouillabaisse for starter. We loved the toasted garlic bread and the spread but found the other breads a bit chewy. House salad perfectly dressed. The cocktails were excellent and wine good also. My server had difficulty explaining how the two seafood dishes were different other than the items listed. No matter, I chose the scallops and shrimp and it was delicious but I still wonder how the option with the seafood plus fish would have come out. My husband had the beef tenderloins with Bernaise sauce - delicious. My cheesecake was to die for. His creme brûlée actually needed a bit more sugar (never thought I’d write that about a creme brûlée!) He also said the coffee was just ok. The overall experience was a very good one. I wish the restaurant was closer. The tiny missteps on dessert and the bread do not change my overall impression and we would happily dine here again on another special occasion.

Seemed like everyone was celebrating a special occasion (birthday for us) last night at this special place. We've been coming for >30 years. The prices are higher (still a relative bargain for its high quality of dining and ambiance), but the food may be better, if that's possible. We split a chateaubriand for 2--amazing. The meal comes with delicious bread, an amuse bouche, appetizer, salad, intermettzo, main course, dessert (spectacular souffles are extra) and coffee/tea. You definitely don't leave hungry! Service is top notch. Very romantic. A jacket and tie seems right here. Very quiet for easy conversation. The only downside is the roller coaster ride back and forth. We'll definitely return for another special occasion.

Just the best, period. I go whenever I can, sadly not as often as I would like. Even though the restaurant is not exactly cheap, you never feel that you overpaid in any way. It is more of an experience than just a meal. The last time I was there, was for lunch and I selected the liver. I love liver, but how Chef Jaques makes a $ 1.00 piece of liver taste so amazing, is just beyond me. I have never had a bad bite, of anything, let alone a bad meal. Simply the place I go, when I need a flawless meal and an amazing experience.

Do you need a place to commemorate a milestone or celebrate a significant achievement? This is it. We celebrated my Valentines birthday here, with our kids and one boyfriend. It's an experience you won't soon forget. The food and service are amazing and there are things you won't normally find on a menu around here - La bouillabaisse, Le croustillant au Roquefort, Le boudin blanc, La coquille de crustacés... and that's just appetizers. Entrees include La matelote de poissons et crustaçés (Sea bass, salmon, shrimp, scallops, lobster, Cognac lobster sauce), La choucroute royale (Alsatian feast: sauerkraut, sausages, pork, duck confit, Rougié foie gras), and L’assiette de gibier du chasseur (Hunter’s duo – red deer chop, quail stuffed with duck mousse, roebuck sauce). And many others. The menu is "prix fixe" - one price, with a few options (baked Alaska, assorted hot soufflés...). It is pricey, so check out the menu first. You won't be disappointed.

Four of us had a late luncheon outside. We started our meal with some drinks, excellent breads and complimentary lentil soups. It was the prix fixe menu that consisted of different dishes. I selected the escargots, the tomato salad (tomato from the garden), the trout and the dessert with meringue and fresh cream. Everything was very tasty and we had excellent service. We sat at the table for almost three hours. It was just delightful. No rush! We had plenty of time to enjoy our food while having good conversations. Last time we ate here was 29 years ago. I am so happy that the restaurant has maintained high standards through the years. We will definitely be back soon.

This was our first restaurant meal since our Covid vaccinations so it would have been fun anyway, but it was even better than we remembered. We started with an aperitif and a Manhattan, both excellent. The warm bread they served while we waited for our appetizers was heavenly, and we really enjoyed the mushroom crepe and mussells. Our 2 entrees were Maine Divers Scallops and Le Saute Gourmandise Papa Ernest ( medallions of beef, veal, lamb chop, and roasted Maine lobster tail). Both were terrific, made all the better with small treats of lentil soup and mango sorbet between courses. For dessert we had creme brulet (outstanding) and a plum tart (not memorable). And to finish the perfect evening, they brought several absolutely wonderful chocolate truffles. We were too full to eat them at the time, but thoroughly enjoyed them the following day. Thank you, L'Auberge, for a wonderful return to civilization! Our only regret is the challenge of driving on the winding and hilly road to and from your wonderful restaurant in the dark.

Seven of us had lunch outside and it was a great experience. The weather was warmer than normal for November, and our lovely luncheon lasted for about three hours. You just cannot be in a rush when you eat at L’Auberge Chez François. You also need to come pretty hungry as they serve lots of food. The prix fixe menu may not be for everyone, but it worked well for us. Service was perfect and as French native speakers, we very much enjoyed chatting in French with our waiter from Morocco. It is pricey, but overall we had a great experience and it was the perfect setting outside for this long waited family gathering.

For over 20 years... I've been supporting and loving L'Auberge Chez Francois. I pretend to say I get to use my French but the real reasons are the outstanding food, commitment to quality, ambience & incredible customer service. So love The addition of the Brasserie downstairs and the outdoor seating. I actually feel like I am in Alsace. I drank enough Alsatian wines and my fave Aperitif to begin brunch. Manager Danni symbolizes everything that is great customer service, for us and everyone around us. L'Auberge is authentic to the food they prepare and present. They don't try to be something they're not. That's one of the many things I love about this restaurant. From our mushroom crepe, salmon 3-ways, salads & perfectly prepared halibut and the BEST bread service ever, surely We were too full for dessert but we had already pre-ordered the dessert soufflé and had Danni surprise us with the flavor since there are four of them. The Grand Marnier hit the spot and we are now part of the clean plate club. The grounds & flowering trees are so impressive and on a perfect sunny day, brunch outdoors was an Afternoon well spent. This was my friend's first time here & her sister, who lives in France, is visiting next month. This is the first place she's going to take her to eat! Bien sur! Merci beaucoup, a bientot!

We fought the evening rush hour traffic up Georgetown pike until the turnoff and were able to enjoy a quiet trip to the restaurant We enjoyed drinks, a small soup and the salad Maison We both enjoyed Escalops de veau, Jambon de Virginie et champions sausages, and the house chocolate tart. Service was prompt, attentive, and courteous. Dinner lasted long enough to allow us a more leisurely trip back home, and we will return for a second seating.

FIRST, MY daughter purchased our anniversary dinner using their online menu-it showed $208 but it was $360. That's a big difference and false advertising for such a restaurant. The service was good, atmosphere good but ordered our roast rare and it came medium rare but more on the medium... However, it was good but not what we wanted. Told the waiter and thought we get at least a discount but NONE. 2/14/2023
