Atmosphere, service and food was spectacular. Will definitely go back again very soon! Had the shrimp and grits and the Polpetti stuffed meatballs for appetizer. Being an Ethiopian restaurant food is somewhat spicy but that might depend on your dish selection.

I went for Karaoke on Wednesday night. The best lasagne I ever had! A bit more than I usually spend on food but it was completely worth it and small Karaoke group with very nice people and great singing!! Thanks.

Are you a foodie? Then you must try Maaza 29. I go there primarily for Ethiopian Tidbits and my injera cravings. But the European cuisine is outta this world as well. The Osso Buco was insanely delish! It was accompanied by the BEST risotto I have ever had in America and maybe even Italy. It was so good, my family has voted it a must to get every time we order even if we eat later. The lamb lollipops are to die for. Beef short rib ragu is another absolutely delicious entree. I could go on but long story short, all their entrees and apps are gastronomic wonders of the world. They even deliver! So stop reading my post and go try Maaza 29. You will thank me!
P.S. Sorry no photos because every ‘dang time I go, I eat it all before I think of a pic.

Maaza 29 is easily our favorite restaurant, there are so many positives to highlight:
- Great local restaurant and the opportunity to support local business!
- Excellent food and expansive menu; Maaza 29 has excellent cuisine selections from Ethiopian to American, to Cajun, and the list goes on. A lot of creativity went into planning this menu! Favorites are the Beef Sambusa, Confit of Chicken Wings, and Awaze Tibs.
- One of the best examples of wine sourcing I have seen in awhile at a restaurant; always a great bottle of wine there and the owner and staff are super knowledgeable on wine (cocktails are great too)!
- The staff at Maaza are amazing....literally the staff and the food are the reason we come back so much.
So in sum, do yourself a favor and visit Maaza 29. You won't regret the decision!

Last time we were here, in 2021, the food was wonderful.
Today, 10/2/22, no one answers the phone for me, nor for Google Assistant.
OpenTable has no listing for this place.
I think this place is closed. Too bad, as it was very good.

My friend chose this place before she moved to Colorado. She had been there a few times and I had never been. Located in a strip mall right off 29. For a Thursday night business was super slow. There was one guy at the bar and us and we left at 7:00 p.m. We each got the hangar steak and I have to say it was really good. I liked the sauce a lot! We also split the salad and it was very good as well. I was pleasantly surprised. The happy hour wine was a red, it was ok (I am not a fan of red wine). They have a patio but the view is of the car wash being built. Think I would have preferred to sit inside. On the weekends they have live entertainment.

Dropped in on a whim and was really glad we did - staff were super friendly and the food was delicious; extra points for great cocktails!! Maaza 29 has a fresh vibe and fresh flavors for traditional Gainesville!! Owner was super nice and took time to talk all things culinary with us even though he was handling a large dinner party (psst you can also host private events here)!

It's always nice to have something fresh and different, and that's what this place is. Yes you can find some nice Italian items on the menu as well, so don't feel like you're not going to have a clue what your eating.

Even before the meal, there is an extensive list of unique cocktails from which to choose. We tried a lychee pomegranate ginger martini and a balsamic-framboise martini, both of which were quite flavorful without any added syrup or sweetener. Having eaten at Ethiopian restaurants, I was ready to dive into my meal without any utensils. However, this restaurant takes a more genteel approach, serving the injera rolled, sliced and on the side. We shared a spicy mesir appetizer and then ordered chicken awaze tibs, lamb awaze tibs and vegetarian platter. The meal was excellent, but far more than the three of us could eat; about half of it went home. Service could have been a bit quicker, but we were certainly not ignored. We would definitely like to return.

Ate here with three friends. Lamb lollipops were great and nicely flavored. Sambusa appetizer spicy but a good thing. The menu is not strictly Ethiopian because the chef is French trained and there are also Italian dishes reflecting that country's influence in the region (look it up). Chicken and beef with awayze spice was excellent and served with injera. Staff was well informed and service just right. The chef came out to check on everyone and explained everything and gave us complimentary limoncello gelato. I'm from Wyoming but used to live in the DC area and have had Ethiopian food before and this was excellent.

For such a small, tucked away and unassuming place, we were pleasantly surprised by the warmth of the owner and how much time he spent talking to us about the menu and dishes. The robust and complimentary flavors were the highlight, along with delicate but tasty and different spices. Mazza 29 has a "farm to table-like" component, offering local farm raised meats, dairy, and veggies. We were also surprised by the Italian menu that you can order from, which we will sample on our next visit. We highly recommend Mazza 29!

This place is my favorite restaurant in Gainesville. If you like fresh great tasting food that is farm to table you have got to try this place out. My wife and I have come here twice and both times we were super impressed with the food and super impressed with the service. We had two appetizers, the Shiro and Sambusa. My favorite was the Sambusa with its delicious dipping sauces. I got the Beef Tibsnand my wife got the Lamb Tibs for our entrees and each were amazing. The owner came to our table and introduced himself to us. He was very friendly and knowledgeable. When he found out was my wife's birthday he gave her a free dessert. Please try this hidden gem out.

We were given a few entrees that were served with rice that tasted like it was scraped from the bottom of the pot. For the price of the entrees we ate, the way the rice was served to us is unacceptable. It was burned and very hard. Instead of having discounts on our food or getting the food for free we were offered a little free dessert. It may seem like over-cooked rice isn't something to be angry about but with the prices they have I expected much better service for which a little pastry does not suffice. Also the restaurant is very under staffed, so the service was lacking.

From the moment we walked in the door until we left the service was amazing. The staff was extremely helpful in describing the spices and the cooking techniques. There were three generations at the table and we all enjoyed our meals. We would have preferred a little less spice. We shared the lamb, the shrimp and the chicken and they were all very good. I recommend visiting for a change of pace. The owner came out and was very friendly and helpful.
