About
The Auld Shebeen is Fairfax City's only authentic Irish Pub and Restaurant. In Ireland a Shebeen was an illicit drinking den, an after hours speakeasy where once inside people found good familiar conversation, drink, friends and great food! Fascinating history surrounds these shebeens that have always offered excitement for local patrons and will forever be a part of Irish lore. Our Menu is based on both traditional Irish recipes and American cuisine. Our house specialties include our Salmon Boxty, Dubliner Braised Beef Brisket and our Bushmill's Filet Mignon, with many others including many traditional Irish pub favorites like our Guinness Beef Stew, Shepherd's Pie or Fish and Chips. So whether it is a few quiet pints after work or a special evening out, here at The Auld Shebeen we will do our utmost to make your visit with us a special one. We feature live traditional Irish music every Friday and Saturday in the restaurant.

My family stopped by Auld Shebeen Irish Pub after an escape room.
The pub has multiple tvs. I got to watch the football (soccer) game.
Definitely can see the place being busy on weekend nights as the pub has a full size bar and has live singing and trivia night.
The pub has a great Irish vibe.
The wait staff was great.
My wife and I are on the keto diet and this pub has several great choices.
Free bread with raisins and butter was given to the table which our son had.
My wife ordered the Caesar salad ($8.95) without croutons with grilled salmon ($5.95) with a side of Grilled Asparagus ($3.95).
I had the Auld Shebeen burger with cheddar, Irish bacon, fried egg, tomato, no onion crisps ($13.95) with a Caesar side salad ($1.95).
Our son had Steak Frites ($20.95) with fries.
We all enjoyed our meals and when we return to Fairfax for another escape room, we plan on coming back to this pub.

I arranged for a group of local Army wives to celebrate "Irish" month with lunch at The Auld Shebeen Irish Pub in Fairfax. We were seated in a privte section of the restaurant thus not disturbing other diners and we had a great time. The service was very nice and extremely pleasant, the food was far above average in the area, and it was nice to enjoy some Irish flavors as we anticipate St. Patrick's Day's arrival.

When you step thru the front door, you cross over to Dublin. Everything in this place is really Irish: the atmosphere/the food/the drink/even the music. Ok the server didn't have a brogue so they can work on that! The bar has Irish drafts/whiskey/drinks. While the menu is large/varied, has quite a few Irish specialists like bangers/mash or Guinness beef stew. On the weekends, they have live Irish music if that's you're fancy. Otherwise the background music is purely Irish. By the way, Auld Shebeen in Gaelic means an old Irish speakeasy or pub from back in the day. So I tip my cap/hoist my pint & give the Auld Shebeen: 5 four-leaf clovers!!

Adult night out. My wife was in the mood for comfort food. Normally we look for outdoor seating while the weather is still cooperating, they had two tables with people so we stopped in for dinner. My wife had the Cottage Pie, she was unable to finish it filled her up. I had the Irish Sausage and Mash which was very good. If your in Fairfax City please stop and check them out very Irish including the setting.

for years my wife's family has been singing the praises of auld shebeen. they go there for virtually every family gathering, but I had not been able to attend until this one (schedule conflicts). i was very excited because they love it so much and auld shebeen is one of the very few places with Scotch eggs.
first, the staff was attentive, helpful and pleasant.
the restaurant was clean, well lit and had wifi. it was decorated like an irish pub. there were only 4 parties there (covid), which was nice.
even with 4 parties, it was still loud and i could barely hear despite the large size of the dining area. my wife confirmed it is usually noisy.
tbh, the fare was disappointing. i have had scotch eggs at 4 places and these were 4th best. small and covered in salad dressing...no thanks. cottage pie looked ok, as did fish & chips, but I wanted good scotch eggs and didn't get them. the bresd was unimpressive as well.
I am sure I will go back, but not because I pick it.
prices are ok. about a hundred with tip for 4 people, no booze, dessert or apps.

This is absolutely one of our favorite spots! We have been going here for over a decade and will continue to do so for as long as we are in the area. The food is delicious, cocktails are great and they have a great beer and whiskey selection. Service is always superb even when busy. The kitchen is careful with food intolerance handling my Celiac (Gluten-free) and my son's Dairy allergy with ease. A must try is the Potato soup and the Shepherds pie. An honorable mention for the Cottage pie and their burgers!

My husband was dying to try this place to watch the Heineken Rugby Cup, so he called in advance and asked if they would put it on for us. When we arrived, the hostess had a note written down to put the match on for us. The owner (an Irish guy) was out and about in the restaurant during our entire visit and checked in on us several times. The atmosphere is so charming and reminded me of my trip to Dublin. The food was great and the drinks came quickly! I would definitely recommend this place on the service alone, but the food won’t disappoint!

Food is good and service was very good. We just find it to be very, very noisy inside and hard to hear each other over the crowd from the bar. We’ve eaten here twice and both were early in the evening so maybe we’re catching it at the wrong time. My wife’s corned beef has been dry both times.

Went to Auld Shebeen on a whim with a friend for dinner. I hadn't been there for years, but remembered it as pleasant with OK food, What a great surprise to walk in and have it feel so -- well, Irish. The server accents were authentic, the music was wonderful, and the food really exceeded expectations. My friend and I have both spent a fair amount of time in the UK and love fish and chips. The dish at Auld Shebeen is as good as I've had anywhere. My only criticism is that they didn't serve it with mushy peas (with mint). That would have made it really perfect.

Ordered the beef stew & tried the sticky toffee pudding, both were very good. I would eat there again.
It is odd they have shepherd's pie with beef & cottage pie with chicken. Shepherd's pie should be lamb & cottage pie with beef - they seem improperly named & I am not sure why they have cheese in them.

Lunch was terrific!! I had the Claddagh Bo Porter Cheeseburger, and my wife had the Buddicks Fish & Chips. The gravy with the mashed potatoes and peas was great as was the cheeseburger (Irish Cheddar). My wife enjoyed the Fish and Chips, very light breading and great tasting fish with good tartar sauce and cold slaw.

Amazing fish ‘n’ chips (right down to the newspaper lining on the plate). The pics of Michael Collins and James Connolly (famous Irish rebels, for the benefit of those who don’t recognise the names) on the walls are cool too. Slaínte, Erin Go Bragh!

Excellent food and entertainment that can accommodate small to large parties. The food is excellent and traditional pub style food. It does get a bit noisy with the music at times but it is a staple in Fairfax and worth it for dinner or just light fare

The Antoncics love The Auld Shebeen!! If we could give it more than 5 stars we would. The food is authentic and delicious. You honestly can’t go wrong with any selection. The atmosphere is relaxing and fun. Love the location right in downtown / old town Fairfax. The owners and staff are polite and hard working. Just a an absolute gem in the area.

We went for an early dinner. All of the staff were friendly and welcoming. Our food was delicious and very fresh. The fries are amazing! Great selection of drinks, lots of good Irish food on the menu, and plenty of other food options. One of the owners stopped by to talk to us; he was very pleasant and appreciative of our business. Definitely would recommend!
