I came yesterday with my mother and cousins and was thinking of buying some taffy. There was an employee making taffy when we came in. Unfortunately, I did not buy anything because while I was watching the employee make the taffy they were wiping their...sweat with a rag and gloves still on and went right back to what they were doing. I kept watching and they took those gloves off and put another different glove on the right hand and in the other left hand grabbed something that looked like powdered sugar and with the left barehand they rubbed it on the taffy. I’m sure their hands get sweaty in those previous gloves they just took off. The person put the other glove on their left hand wiped their face again then went back to working with the taffy. I was really grossed out and no longer want to buy taffy here. I also saw another employee go in the bathroom with their apron still on. Really cool place, but I’m disappointed in the unsanitary things I saw and don’t plan on buying anything here again after what I witnessed.More

They are listed as being open until 730 pm. We arrived at their door at 7:08 pm and they were already closed. They do not have the hours listed on the door, only on their Google page. We rushed through our dinner to make the...quick walk and were very disappointed.More

The atmosphere is so fun! I love the old time-y drug store feel. The ice cream is delicious and they have almost any candy imaginable!

This spot is a gem on the Strand. So much to choose from in terms of ice cream treats, chocolates, candy you have not seen in years and even expresso. Prices are so reasonable. My daughter and I shared a banana split for $10. She...has never had one before and loved sitting in the classic ice cream parlor chairs and watching the staff behind the counters make all the treats. I could not believe the range if fun candies some of which I have not seen in years. You are sure to find the flavors you love at La King and feel nostalgic for a time you are probably too young to have experienced yourself ...except in the movies.More

Our favorite spot on the Strand. A must if you go for a visit. It’s always crowded but worth it for sure. So much stuff to choose from. Will definitely be back.

No trip to Galveston is complete without visiting La Kings. Old fashioned style candy shop that’s been a staple on the Strand for nearly 50 years. House-made candies, chocolates, taffies, and an old fashioned ice cream counter. The store can get very crowded and chaotic....Be prepared to wait in line and bump shoulders a bit. Even with the chaos it’s still a worthwhile experience unique to Galveston. Definitely worth checking outMore

I was in Galveston with my fiancé, 2 girlfriends, and one kid. We stumbled upon La Kings, and decided to get some ice cream. We were greeted by Torryan, where he served a single scoop of ice cream on a cone. He let us try...2 flavors and recommended the popular item which was butter pecan! Overall, he was very attentive! Cute store inside. Limited space to sit!More

Had to pay a visit while walking the strand. Lots of chocolate everywhere and plenty of choices. Place was packed and we saw why. Ice cream was very good and expensive like the chocolates.

What a wonderful blast from the past. This nostalgic soda fountain and old world confectionery is a must if you're bringing the family. We've been several times but never during a holiday, which was spring break. We had to carry 2 strollers up the 4 or 5 steps because there's no ramp, only a lift for wheelchairs. It was shoulder to shoulder and extremely packed. The ice cream...tasted like blue bell and we all ended up throwing it away after a few bites. The candy section was really good and had so many choices to choose from. We usually love coming here but won't come back when it's a busy time. An employee was yelling "excuse me" while carrying a box through the store and I was trying to get out of the way but couldn't move much and she bumped me in the butt with the corner of the box. It actually hurt and left a bruise the next day and she didn't even apologize even when she turned around and looked at me and instead said "oops" when I said "ouch". I didn't want to complain because I'm sure she was just as frustrated as we were. My kids love picking out the candy there so we will be back for that side of the store only.More

It was a fun place to go because it was old. The chocolate was ordinary and the ice cream was very expensive for a scoop. The one little treasure I found: the candy jelly fruit slices coated with sugar. They were very tasty and there...were several varieties. Look for those.More

Let me just start off by saying I am not a highly critical person or as some would like to say, a Karen. That being said I had a terrible experience here and would NEVER return. After standing there for a good 10 minutes patiently...waiting for assistance I kindly stated,” hey can we go ahead and tell you what we want?” And the lady behind the counter proceeds to tell me that they are all busy and I’ll just have to wait! Rolled her eyes and acted like it was the end of the world. If she only knew…I just felt so appalled at that response like who would be ok with that response from someone in a customer service setting?? Went to get a coffee on the way out, same rude, no smiling dude that could care less. And I usually spend a good couple hundred dollars here almost monthly. Will never return. They lost a good customer for sure. I refuse to spend my hard earned money on such a place. And most of my family spend money there also but that’s ok I’ll tell everyone I know to not return there. I can understand a bad day but this was unacceptable. I highly regret not getting names. Must be a reason they don’t wear name tags……complete jerks.More
