One of the best brunches we’ve had in a long time! First of all, our waitress Sydney was so sweet! She gave us a warm welcome, had perfect suggestions, was always smiling and was very polite and attentive during our meal. It’s been so long...since we’ve had a smiling server, so we really appreciated this! We had the shrimp and grits, which are award winning- you gotta try them! We also tried the chicken and waffles which were yummy too! To drink we had cranberry and pineapple mimosas, and both flavors were very good.More

Stopped by for a Sunday afternoon lunch, Huuby loved the lollipop lamb chops. The bagels and lox were the best! Looking forward to going back!

He had been here before and enjoyed our dinner. Although not spectacular. We were there again last weekend and what a disaster. The food was less then mediocre. You can try to cover up a bad frozen fry with truffle oil and cheese, but it...doesn't work. My husband's "steak" was a train wreck of a meal. Absolutely no flavor. I had the crab cake and couldn't finish it. I asked for a side salad with just greens (they have a green salad on the menu) and was told the only side salad had strawberries and nuts. I asked for that without the dressing and received the salad dressed. One of the employees came over and apologized and asked if I just wanted a green salad. Ah-ha, you can be granted a request after all. I was over it at that point and said no. Waiter was young and didn't seem to have been properly trained. He was not unfriendly, just seemed completely overwhelmed. At one point I went to the bar to order a second round of drinks because we couldn't fine the waiter. The bartender also seemed overwhelmed and looked at me like he had no idea what I was asking for. A glass of wine and a beer! Finally received the drinks which the waiter comped. I will not return to this restaurant. It is much too expensive for the quality and service that they do not offer.More

My wife had been wanting to dine at the Porch, so I made reservations for May 13th, for dinner. Our food selection was very good, service equally as good. My wife signed the receipt and we left having enjoyed a nice meal. Then I notice...this AM while reviewing my account on line to see the Porch had hit my CC twice, once the food including tip, then again for the tip. I certainly do not mind spending money on QUALITY SERVICE and price is a non issue. However, to double dip and hit my card again is unacceptable. I will contest the charges. I will not be returning. Really pleased with this restaurant. I ordered the Sea bass with smoked gouda grits and it was very good. We also had the baked goat cheese and blackberry appetizer and my husband and I loved that. My kids got the mac n cheese and ate...every last bite. We all left happy. Service was excellent and a relaxed pace. We would love to come here again.More

I had three house guests coming for the weekend to our home in Galveston. We are full time residents. We dine at the Porch Cafe on a regular basis and have attended the Sunday wine dinner as well. I have an allergy to fish, and...have requested no fish, to which they have been more than happy to accommodate. I made the reservation for the four of us a week before the event. I assumed everything was fine, and my guests were excited about attending. At 4:30 PM, the day of the dinner, I received a call from the restaurant saying that we would not be able to be seated for the wine dinner because of our reservation time of 6:45 PM, but we could order off the normal menu if we would like. They said that the wine dinner was only at 6:30 PM. I told them that we would be happy to make it by 6:30, as we had planned on this for a week. Then I was told that actually they were short staffed and they could not accommodate us for the wine dinner now as it was all full. This was confusing as I had a reservation that was obviously being ignored. My guests still wanted to eat at the Porch Cafe, so we continued on as planned against my better judgement. On the way to the restaurant we called and spoke to the same female hostess and told her we were on our way. Two of our party went up to secure our table as the other two parked the car. Basically, the two who entered the restaurant were initially ignored. When the hostess finally greeted them, she told them that they could sit outside. This was unacceptable as the weather was very hot. Then she told them that they were simply overbooked and could not serve us at all. She was not at all apologetic, and when the other two members of our party arrived, she ignored them as well. We were forced t try and find some restaurant who would seat us, which was no easy task. I do not know what the problem is with the Porch Cafe, but clearly customer service is very low on the priority list. The food and service there has never been particularly stellar, but the ambiance is nice so we have enjoyed going there in the past. I will never go there again unless the management changes and they begin to value their customers-especially the local ones who are their bread and butter during the winter months.More

After doing research for restaurants in Galveston, we decided on The Porch. It was recommended by Galveston Pride 2021 - so thought it was going to be good. The food was flavorful - the service: meh. We had a 6:45pm res, arrived on time and...had requested outside seating - which they confirmed over the phone. There was only one table left - the one ‘wobbly’ table that each server was aware of. They offered inside but it smelled like cleaning chemicals and you had to listen to the kitchen staff because they hadn’t turned on the music (and it wasn’t on outside either). And no one was in the restaurant. So we move outside. The table was INCREDIBLY wobbly / the annoying thing is their catering room (which was not in use) had the same tables that were outside on the porch. WHY DIDN’T THEY JUST SWITCH THE TABLE OUT or throw it out? I couldn’t even cut into my wedge salad without the table moving. During our apps, another table got up - why didn’t they offer it to us to move to? The waitress, while friendly wasn’t present. She didn’t tell us about the specials (we heard from the other waiter when he sat another table), when we asked about dishes she couldn’t share how it was prepared and when asked for salt, it took her 5-minutes to bring it out. When we wanted to leave, we waited for her to come out for at least 8-minutes (we even stacked our plates) and then when the check was brought, we had to wait another 5-minutes for her to come back to get the card. The restaurant was fine, unfortunately the waitress needs to retrained. Again, very nice but ‘the service’ was missing.More

We arrived within posted hours and were told that the restaurant was closed to set up for a private event (no signs posted out front or at the door so advising) and that reservations were required (nothing on their website says so). Food may be...great, but not very customer friendly up front.More

For the last few years, my wife and I celebrate our anniversary with a long weekend in Galveston. When we stay on the East End, we always make it a point to have brunch at the Porch Cafe. This year was different due to COVID...spacing and less diners but the food was as good as ever. I had the Salmon Eggs Benedict and it was delicious. All the ingredients tasted fresh and the plating enhanced them. I also had a couple of Bloody Mary's, they were straightforward and refreshing, not gimmicked up like many restaurants prepare them . My wife had the biscuits and gravy. Two large fluffy biscuits split in half, topped with thick gravy. I sampled it and may order that on our next visit. Highly recommend Porch Cafe, especially for folks staying on the East End. We'll certainly return.More

My wife and I had the wine/whiskey tasting menu on a Sunday evening during Mardi Gras weekend. We were looking for a nice meal and we were not disappointed. The restaurant is off the beaten path in a development of new construction. The restaurant is...modern, bright and comfortable. My wife selected the wine pairing and I went with the whiskey. Pricing was very reasonable. We remarked that just the drinks would have cost about as much as the entire meal at Austin prices. The meal included four courses and four pairings. Wine included selections from California, Germany and France. The whiskeys were all Scotland. Pours were generous so a Lyft or Uber is recommended. The meal started with a simple frisée salad with beets, a soft boiled egg and a light dressing. The meal did not include a printed menu, but our waiter did a nice job explaining. We would have preferred a printed menu, or even one written out on a chalkboard. I wish we’d done a better job noting the wines and whiskeys, but we were focused on relaxing and enjoying our meals. Our second course was steamed lobster tails. They were expertly prepared and served with simply drawn butter which is really all lobster needs. The restaurant advertises using local ingredients, but obviously the lobster didn’t come from the Gulf. Our third course was a steak (a fillet) served with sautéed mushrooms. Mine was excellent and served a perfect medium rare. My wife’s was a bit closer to medium, but still very good. Again, the local angle would have been nice and we’d like to know if this was Texas sourced beef. Again, a printed menu would be a nice addition. Desert was a series of bite size cakes with a simple drizzle of chocolate. It was a nice finish to a very good meal. Overall we really enjoyed the meal. The restaurant was busy but not crowded, and we got very attentive service. The smells from the kitchen left us anticipating our next course, and was reassuring that everything was being prepped to order. The price was more than fair and the pairings excellent. We will be going back! Constructive criticism would include keeping a focus on local ingredients and a little more information describing the menu.More

During a quick stop in Galveston we were looking for a good place for brunch and saw great reviews for Porch Cafe. We were shocked to find this place almost completely empty on a Saturday morning. I had the Chicken and Waffles, my wife had...the stuffed French Toast. I don't think we said a word to each other after the food got there because it was so good. The mimosas were good too (although it's hard to screw up a mimosa). Our server was extremely kind and helpful. The location is great. Service was fast. There really wasn't a downside. Also, the salt and pepper shakers were so cool we ordered a set on Amazon while we were still at the table. I hope we get to come back every time we're in Galveston.More
