Went for dinner, we were seated in the cellar area which was ok but quite low. We had Lamb dinner and Steak and Ale pie. It is nice to have individual pies, the gravy was particularly lovely. Then onto desert……… we ordered Rhubarb and Ginger...TART, what arrived showed no resemblance to a tart. It came with strawberry ice cream which we don’t like. It came with strawberry sauce and a fruit salad. We did question the tart but was told this is it! It looked like a cheesecake and definitely did not tasty of rhubarb or ginger, it looked to have chocolate chips in it. After changing the ice cream, we still left the ‘tart’. On paying we questioned it again and the team offered to show us the box as proof. I suggest they taste it and see if they thought it was a tart! It spoilt what should have been a lovely meal.More

Have just had a delicious Sunday lunch with my family. Beautiful food served by fantastic staff. Nothing was too much trouble, and we were made to feel very welcome. My daughter in law follows you on instagram, and has wanted to visit for a long...time. She was not disappointed! Thank you one and all xMore

Went the Fleece with a group of work colleagues for a leaving meal. Great food at a reasonable price, good service from the manager and barmaids who were very pleasant, and very enjoyable meal had by all.

Visited with friends and the dog for Sunday lunch. Had the platter and 2 lamb dinners, and I have to say all elements were fantastic. The roast potatoes and parsnips were so good! They brought water for the dog and the staff were really friendly....Great experience.More

After previous nice meal last year I went Tuesday 19th March for family meal. 2 burger meals were very good but cod fish and chips meals very overcooked and I'm afraid I was super shocked to pay £17.50 for what was basically a plate full...of messy mash on the plate with tiny piece of chicken breast (with a bone in it) and some sauce. That particular dish should not be charged out at more than £8. There was no quality, zero presentation and no skill in that dish whatsoever to warrant such a high price. Very disappointing. Desserts however were beautiful. The rhubarb and ginger was divine. We did not complain about the mains as the young lady on bar and serving was so lovely we didn't want to put her in an awkward position so we left with smiles and paid in full. Think in summary we simply have to say that meals are incredibly over priced for what you end up with. So sorry to say that I don't think we would return again. Sorry xMore

Although the food was nice (not memorable) we will not visit again in cold weather as it was very cold. We asked to be moved after our starter and were moved to the snug. Warmer from the tiny log burner which he said he’d just...got going. All in all food ok but not enjoyed due to being cold. If you’re going on a cold night wear thermals and a coat.More

We went the Golden Fleece for dinner as we had stayed there a couple of years ago and enjoyed our stay. I think it must have changed hands since our visit, the place gets good reviews but we felt that the food was (a little...microwaved). When our main course was delivered I tried to order a drink from the waitress who declined my order and asked me to go to the bar. Very odd because only three tables occupied and two waitresses serving food. I didn't want my food to go cold so didn't bother with a drink. Don't think I will return.More

Enjoyed another great Sunday lunch at The Golden Fleece. Booking certainly advised - saw some walk ins unable to get food. Good selection of Sunday meals, including a platter for two although we heard thos had "sold out". Our beef was delicious and was accompanied...with a good selection of vegetables and Yorkshire puddings. After a little break we ordered desert, both of which were very tasty (although the sticky toffee pudding and ice cream was enough for three!). The best Sunday lunch we've found in the area and further afield; we'll be booking for next week.More

Have visited the Golden Fleece many times and would almost class it as our local, we arrived at 20:15 for a meal only to be told in an unprofessional manner that they had finished doing food. It clearly states on their website that food is...served daily until 20:30. Unfortunately they will not have my custom again.More

Booked for Sunday lunch for a family of 6 (4 adults, 2 children, 2 dogs). We booked our table months in advance. On arrival we were shown to our table which was clearly a table for 4 people but set for 6. When I queried...this with staff. I was told it was a 6 person table. We had to move a chair to the end to accommodate us all. When the food arrived it was clearly evident we could not all sit around the table comfortably. The food was average. Childrens choice was poor. Flat beer. On finishing our meal, no plates were cleared and a member of staff started sweeping up around us. We paid and left disappointed.More

We have visited several times over the past couple of years and always enjoyed the food & atmosphere. Unfortunately the customer service yesterday was disappointing. We were greeted by a member of staff who pointed to where our table was & said to go to...bar to order. I would expect a better welcome & service from a “restaurant” We spent over £200 & when we had to query an item on the bill the attitude of the waitress was just rude. If anyone looking to book I would AVOID sitting by the door which is where we were sat. Like sat eating in a cold corridor.More
