The food is delicious, the view spectacular and that is why the points are because it is really beautiful. Totally overrated food.

This was our first visit to Altius - we were celebrating our anniversary. Quite simply, it was an all around amazing and special experience. We were warmly greeted and congratulated on our anniversary, were seated promptly at a table with a spectacular view, and began...a wonderful culinary experience like no other. Every course of our meal including the little "extras" were delicious. Service was friendly, informative, and attentive. Valet parking was easy and efficient. Can't wait to return.More
Terrific food, amazing views, right next to the top of the Duquesne Incline. Wonderful special occasion restaurant. Many restaurants with spectacular views let the food suffer by comparison. Altrius is an exception.
And year after I had this dining experience which was dessert and drinks which cost over $130 I tried to make a reservation and they brought up the fact that we only bought one course, I don’t know who keeps track but I feel like...$130 is enough to spend at this establishment Just be mindful that they keep tracks on how much you spend there or how much you order, I won’t return thereMore
If you want a beautiful view this place can’t be beat. It’s amazing. If you want the view with exceptional food it’s not here. This is our 2nd visit as we went on a holiday previously and figured we try it again with friends. We...went for an early reservation midweek and everything started very slowly - very relaxed and just chill. Nice server as well for most of it - he was funny and upbeat! Then after apps were set down it became very rushed. As soon as you put down your fork they cleared your plates and went to the next course. I still have salad in my mouth and here is my dinner. Being honest - it’s just ok food - nothing over the top! Our apps, salads, and dinner were all fine - nothing to write home about for the price. The server took my drink away right after dinner I assumed to refill it - but nope it was gone. We ordered dessert and the server seemed annoyed. I asked him for another drink when we ordered dessert and you could see his frustration. A few mins after dessert arrived so did our $500 plus bill and we were asked to vacate the table. Basically we “ran out of time” and they needed to seat the next reservation. We didn’t run out of time - they did! I’ve never been asked to leave a table with food on it - which explains the sudden rushing of service after they started out very slow. Yikes. Although we understand the need to turn over tables this isn’t the way to do it. It turned our party off and we agreed to take this one off the list. Much better restaurants in Pittsburgh to be honest - Alla Famiglia right over the hill is one that outdoes them by far! While we agree not many can replicate the view - the food just doesn’t equal the price and this experience just nailed it for us.More
Yes, the view is spectacular and yes, you get what you pay for and by that I mean it was a quality meal at a fair price. The Ild Fashion was one of the best I’ve had ever. We ordered a charcuterie board and before...it can we were gives a mushroom soup taste. I hate mushrooms but that was amazing! The charcuterie board was delicious. Then we had a spicy lobster bisque which was a great portion but I could have eaten many bowls of this and I would highly recommend getting this soup. For our entree we had chilean sea bass which was cooked to perfection over some kind of purée with broccolini. It was the perfect portion, season to bring out the taste of the fish but not cover it. Lastly, we were too full for desert however, they brought us a small chocolate brownie in a bag to take home. Everything about this meal was perfect. This was my first trip back to Pittsburgh in over 30 years but I’d return soon just for another meal at this restaurant! Superb by far! I have no pictures to share as it was truly a dining experience not a photo shoot. Ops. I do have a photo of the view.More
Altius is a special occasion restaurant sitting up on the bluff in the Mt. Washington area. It has a contemporary American menu. It is not for the budget conscience. Altius combines a good dinner, attentive service with the best view of Pittsburgh. After dinner take...the Duquesne Incline for a joy ride up and down the hillMore
The view IS spectacular. And the service was VERY attentive. The menu and wine list are on paper (which I like - no plastic). The food was very good. Now the bad part. The prices are VERY high - likely a premium for the surroundings....And I will admit I do not like "restaurant speak." Tonight our fish will be.... and it will be pan seared and served with a xyz accompaniment. Followed by - "no problem." Oh - to end on a positive note - the waitstaff had NO PROBLEM splitting our bill, which was medium complex. Actually TWO positive notes - one of the specials (which we had) was LESS than most of the items on the printed menu and was very good. So maybe they deserve 4 stars....More
While we did not eat here, we did stop for a drink at the bar. The view from this restaurant may be the best restaurant with a view in Pittsburgh. Right next to the upper incline station with a great view of the city! We...enjoyed an icy cold light beer at the bar & the views as the sun went down. A little pricey but the service was exceptional. Will have to dine here the next time we are in Pittsburgh.More
Our travel group wrapped up our Pittsburgh visit with dinner at Altius. We had a table with a beautiful view from the top of Mount Washington. The food was superb and the service very attentive. We highly recommend this lovely restaurant.
