About
Side A Brewing is a Brewery located in the heart of downtown La Grande, Oregon. Side A provides an atmosphere of industrial space within a piece of La Grande history. Set inside the iconic Historic La Grande Firehouse featuring the Eastern Oregon Fire Museum. You can enjoy your dinner and beer and brush up on the history of the building, as well as the firefighters and various fires fought throughout the area. And an old school firetruck of course! We believe in supporting our community in any way we can by keeping the history available and creating a menu using locally sourced foods. Our Brew Pub features an upscale, creative pub fare and a fine selection of craft brews and all the scrumptious burgers and dirty fries you could ever imagine. Feel free to enjoy your beer inside or out in our back-alley beer garden. Bring your friends and have a beer with us.

We ate at Side A Brewing during our recent trip to La Grande and each time we were very satisfied with the food. We didn't have a bad meal, and we particularly liked the "dirty fries" alongside burgers, chicken sandwiches, chicken tenders, and the like. The prices for the food and drinks were more than fair and the portion sizes were large. It was so good the first time that we went back for a second, and so good the second time that we went back for a third! We have one person in our party with severe food allergies so we had emailed in advance, and we are thankful to Travis the head chef who provided detailed responses to our ingredient questions and the wait staff and kitchen staff each visit who kept everything safe.

The menu is relatively small, but they put a nice foodie twist on everything. Atmosphere is cool, in an old firehouse. They also have an outside patio, too. The burgers we had (black and blue and regular) were outstanding... cooked perfect (i requested med rare) and tasted great. I also got a side of the spicy peanut butter.. surprisingly good on the burger! My wife and I also agrees the fries, which were among the best we've ever had ( dirty and truffle). Beer was above average, and service excellent. I don't give a lot of 5 star reviews, but this one earned it with no hesitation.

We spent the night in La Grande, Oregon and, thanks to Trip Advisor, found this fun restaurant. Although it was a Friday night and the restaurant was absolutely packed, Brittany, the Manager, took pity on two old, weary travelers and found us two spots at the bar. The bartender was very friendly, the wine quite welcome and the salads were delicious.

We are local and decided to try Side A for the first time again in a couple of years as our first experience was not super great. We want to support our local community but this makes it hard. We had four in our party, it took almost 15 minutes after being seated for anyone to take our drink order. When they finally brought the beers out they were warm. After another 20 minutes went by they came and took our food order. We waited for what seamed like forever to finally get our food. When my burger came out it was still raw in the middle, enough to still be bleeding, it soaked the bottom bun and there was blood on my plate. I know they serve their burgers on the medium side but this was ridiculous. It took a good 10 minutes to flag down our waitress, she took the burger back and ordered a new one. We had to flag her down again, mind you everyone else in the party had their food and had finished eating by the time we were able to flag her down, she had forgotten about my burger. The new one was cooked better. My party ordered another beer while they waited for me to eat, the beer came after I was done and again was warm. We were in there for well over two hours, the service was horrible and the food was mediocre at best, the fries were greasy and over done and the chicken added to my friends salad was $6.00 for five 1x1 pieces of chicken. Unfortunately we wont be eating there again it was less than desirable food and we were pretty disappointed with the whole experience. I wouldn't recommend this place for anything more than a warm beer.

Not Bad, but Not Good. First, the place was full of a bunch of college students and noisy as "heck". I had three samples of their beer (all dark) and all had a "soapy" overlay - hard to tell what is what when the glasses aren't properly rinsed. Mentioned it to the waiter (he was ok) but he didn't seem interested. Tasty fries but soft and that's hard to do when they serve really thin ones. The burger was very flavorful but I had to use a knife and fork! The top bun was heavily toasted and the bottom was not, coupled with two slices of very under ripe, hard, tomatoes on top of the meat and you have a concoction that the bottom fell out of when I tried to take a bite. Coupled with only one thin napkin and none on the table and you have a mess on your hands (literally!) I finally managed to flag down a waitress and she brought me two more napkins without my even asking. (I think they are use to it...) The place is totally over-priced for the quality of food and beer. I can only assume the folks who say it was/is fantastic haven't traveled much or were there on a different night.

I'm sorry to hear your visit to Side A Brewing didn't meet your, or our, expectations . We pride ourselves for excellence in all that we do so we appreciate you bringing these things to our attention and giving us a chance to look into and correct the issues we can regarding this review. Being in a college town we are proud to have food, drinks, and an atmosphere that brings in not just the working professionals in town or people passing through, but college students as well. We understand things do tend to get a little louder in there especially when there are events, such as trivia, going on. We do what we can to combat this but we are in a concrete garage which unfortunately lends itself to an increase in the noise volume. We do run all our glassware separately through a proper high temperature, restaurant grade dishwasher that is often degreased itself so the glasses should all be properly sanitized and rinsed. If this is somehow not the case we will correct it immediately. As for the food, we try to get as many local ingredients as possible. With every meal down to the sauces and dressings being made from scratch in our kitchen this does mean we sometimes have to charge a higher price for the high quality of food we want to deliver on. We hope the quality and portion sizes would reflect a equal cost to the customer. We would love for a second chance next time you are traveling through La Grande. And again thank you for the feedback.

What a great idea to turn an old fire station into a restaurant. FYI, The Side A refers to the street facing front of a building in fireman lingo. We had a House Burger and Grilled Chicken sandwich. Both were excellent. Truffle fries were generous in quantity but only average in taste. Service was quick and attentive. Great place to hang out.

When looking for dinner, we surfed Trip Advisor to find the best food, that wasn't a chain restaurant. We found this Brew Pub. We drove by it twice, as we weren't sure that this establishment was actually what was advertised. Glad we stopped. I ordered the Fried Chicken Sandwich, and my wife had the special, grilled cheese with smoked bacon. We had regular fries, although they have options to make them "dirty". Wife also had the Coffee Stout. She liked that very much as well. Overall the food was good and we loved the atmosphere. WE would surely go back again.

We were back in La Grande, OR for Winter Term at EOU, and so why not have lunch at Side A Brewing. The last time we were here, the experience was very good. I ordered a customized burger with bacon, cheese, and egg. It was so big that I had to eat it with a knife and fork. The fries were seasoned well and fresh. The beer helped bring everything to a close. The service as before was excellent. We know we'll be eating here again in the future!!!

Looking to pass time, I saw the sign for the brewery and decided to check it out. Taking the recommendation of my friendly server I ordered the red and the flavor profile was spot on. The chicken sandwich Buffalo style was also quite delicious. I was also able to connect to the free wifi and get some work done.

Get there early for dinner because this place fills up fast. Both the food and the beer were very good, and the service was excellent. We ordered the Korean Pork Tacos and the Dirty Chicken Salad, and we recommend both of them. For drinks we enjoyed the Sammyville Stout and the Side Road "Centerline" Hard Cider. We'll be back next time we're in La Grande.

A block off of the main drag in La Grande, we were very happy with our experience at Side A. Good food across the board, solid beer options, liked the space. Our order was behind a larger group on the patio, which we were very appreciative our server let us know ... we had our timing expectations set accordingly. All around a very good time.

A guy answered the phone and said they were “super slow at the moment so we had to order right now.” So we got our order together and called back 90 sec later and they wouldn’t take our call. So we order somewhere else and won’t be supporting them in the future.

We were in this town for an overnight stop, and an acquaintance recommended this place...we thanked him later for the recommendation! One of my favorite beers is a raspberry wheat ale, and this establishment crafts it with a raspberry puree, giving it a pleasant raspberry flavor but not overbearing. The burger was excellent and the "Dirty Fries" were exceptional.

Really good food, especially for a brewery! The staff was engaged and friendly, the beer was excellent. I had the bibimbap bowl and was thrilled with the flavors. Kimchi, pork, everything was great. My husband got the burger, which was also good, and he said the side salad was fantastic. Would definitely go back.

Side A is located in an old fire station on the main drag of La Grande. The building has a fairly large seating area but I can't say its a particularly appealing space. Cold, concrete, minimal decor. The beer I tried is good, but fairly average when stacked up against other breweries. The food was average to slightly above average pub fare. You get good portions and the prices are about right. Overall, this isn't a brewery I'd go out of my way to see. If you are passing through, it would be fine to stop. 3.5/5.
