We like the fact that Solstice takes reservations. It limits the wait lists and hanging around that usually accompanies eating out along the Hood River waterfront. The pepperoni pizza we ordered was delicious, done right with the crust blackened just a bit. The salad was a bit more problematic. The special was listed as “tomato, prosciutto and Brie. It was good as far as it went, with a few slices of tasty heirloom tomatoes tossed in for good measure. Having indulged in many prosciutto/Brie delicacies over the years, I’m here to say there wasn’t even a hint of Brie in that salad. Chunks of bland mozzarella with a little salad dressing for disguise. I politely mentioned to the server that the cheeses may have been switched. He said, “nope, it’s Brie. I saw them slice it!?” It was mozzarella.

Our Take Out Pizza and Beet Salad, when we arrived back to our camper across the River was still warm and very good. Take out pizza is a tough food choice. This was certainly better than our last weeks try at Double Mountain, but like that place they have not mastered any sort of efficiency. The only reason we were able to immediately receive our online order was that no one else was in the one line for orders and pick ups. Not sure that I’d order another pizza from them during the pandemic, but our local organic crimini mushroom and impossible sausage one was quite tasty. The beet salad was excellent. It was simply too hot tonight to eat on their outdoor patio so back across the River to our Airstream air conditioning & comfort!

I was treated to a good sampling of the wonderful food here: cherry and chorizo pizza, moroccan stew, brussels, beets, gnocchi, and the aqua biano. Tastes were spot on - original combinations, natural and balanced, local and delicious. The vibe there is welcoming and relaxed a place where locals, visitors and good souls of all ages come together to enjoy and be nourished. Legit restaurants like this remind us that local and family is where the good happens. Oh and shrub drinks are cool. Solstice is a place where everything comes together perfectly and naturally.

We stopped for dinner, and decided on three appetizers to share instead of pizza. Gnocchi, brussels sprouts and roasted cauliflower. Sadly, none of these were made to order; they were reheated and not very well. The gnocchi was rubbery and had the consistency of a pencil eraser. I wonder if it wasn't cooked in boiling before they pan fried it earlier in the week. The portion size of gnocchi for the price was terrible. The brussels sprouts must have been from the bottom of the pan; they were gloppy with a sugary sauce and most of the brussels sprouts had fallen apart into leaves. The cauliflower was similar; no "roasted" nature to the vegetable and the sauce overpowering. The wait staff didn't really acknowledge any of the guests, and although it was early and not busy, they were more interested in talking to each other than helping folks out. I ordered a bloody mary, and it was overpoweringly salty and not really great. The mix was so thick, the garnishes very tired, just not a great drink. Although we have enjoyed the pizza in the past, inattentive service ruins it for me. We likely won't be back.

The hostess enjoys enforcing her rigid rules at the expense of any customer appreciation or service. We put our name on the waiting list and she told us it would take at least and hour, so we went to downtown Hood River. We were surprised by a text earlier than planned. We responded to the text at 6:49pm saying that we were on our way. Nothing in the text or anything else said that we would be put at the end of the waiting list or that we had to have everyone together at the restaurant in order to secure our table. My son (15) raced down on his scooter and we walked behind. We have eaten here many times and probably spent thousands of dollars. When our son arrived, the hostess said he was too late and would have to wait for an hour for another table. She sent him outside. He sat there for a while and eventually called us 7:03pm a few minutes after he had arrived to tell us the the hostess said he was too late. We thought he was joking. When we arrived at 7:06pm I asked her for our table and she said we were too late. I said my son arrived to claim the table and she said it took him 20 minutes to get there which was false. It had been less than 20 minutes for us to walk there from downtown, and our son had been there for nearly 10 minutes. When I questioned the hostess about the elapse of time, she abandoned her 20 minute argument and said that our entire party had to be present within 10 minutes of text (I have eaten here so many times and spent $1000s of dollars in meals and have never heard this before, nor does the text advise you of this). She was so rigid and unapologetic. She enjoyed her moment of power. Be careful of the hostess or go somewhere where they actually appreciate your business. Solstice just lost an enormous amount of future business. Apparently, when you have a line out the door you can treat people with no respect.

Ordered a pizza to go and miraculously it was ready in 2 minutes, either a magic wand or they were remade totally. Asked for carmelized onions and said it couldn’t be put on the pizza so on the side. Got to the hotel 2 minutes later and pizza was cold and carmelized onions were never heated or fresh. What a joke.

We were in Hood River on a Saturday night (9/12) and with nowhere to go, we needed to order dinner. We chose pizza at Solstice. You order online and pay online with a credit card. We ordered a small 11 inch carnivore for $16. It gave a time for pick up which was about 35 minutes after ordering. Showed up at the pick up door about 5 minutes early so I had to wait outside a few minutes to wait for the pizza. We brought the pizza back to our room at the Hampton Inn Hood River. The meats were a bit on the salty side but the crust was good. We wished we ordered the Margherita instead.

Service was good, although we had to ask for more water. The salad, for $9 was sufficient for the two of us. This was the second time coming after a several year period. That time we had to wait forever, but remembered what we got was very good and reasonably priced. This time we had a res and were seated promptly. This time we were not as impressed with the food. We usually like to have our salad first, but it came after the pizza arrived. The latter was so quick that we wondered if it had been our order. With such a thin crust, it was hard to rate the dough behind it (supposedly fermented for 72 hours). Our problem was that we could not choose what we wanted for a pizza. For combinations, we were limited to the menu which included supposedly “upscale” items. Yes we could start with a base pizza, but if we had two ingredients the price quickly exceeded the combination prices. We chose the carnivore but my wife wanted one less meat item an was not pleased to have chorizo. Our choice would have to replace a meat with spinach or caramelized onion. We understood that was possible and ordered caramelized onion. That became an extra $2.50 for the pizza. There was a reasonable amount of ingredients except for caramelized onion. By the way, without the salad, the 11” pizza would not have been sufficient for two of us. Yes, the home made ice cream was excellent.

Seating capacity is reduced under latest COVID-19 guidelines, so get into line early for the noon opening. Pets are no longer permitted in the canvas covered patio, but we snagged one of the picnic tables near the takeout window. (We had five adults, one baby, and two dogs in our party.) As usual, the pizzas were excellent, including the gluten free version ordered by my son.

Delicious pizza and salad. My husband and I shared the pear salad with dried cherries, pecans, blue cheese and a light vinegarette, plus wonderfully fresh greens, and the Country grilled pizza. Both delicious, the servers worked beautifully as a team. My husband was disappointed there was no Wi-Fi available for guests. Still, an A+ experience.

The service was very quick and friendly in this small wood-fired pizzeria. We were quickly told about the award-winning pizza on the menu: country cherry girl. I liked the cherries, chorizo, and goat cheese, but award-winning? Not so sure. The crust was charred a little too much and likely affected the overall taste. On the other hand, we did also try the cremini pizza and really loved the fresh lemon zest, which gave the pizza a different, unexpected flavor. Very delicious. These are pricy pizzas, so prepare for that. Not the best I’ve had, and not sure they are worth the charge.

I went to the Bingen location, years ago, before they moved across the river. I kept mentioning to my spouse that we need to go to the "new" location when traveling through HR. For various reasons it didn't happen, until now, and I think I have convinced him that the pizza really is that good and should definitely be a regular stop for us while traveling through the gorge. The toppings are interesting and inventive, but if there's anything you aren't sure of, they will gladly offer suggestions of substitutes and will make your pizza as you wish. As someone with allergies and some food sensitivities I really do appreciate a restaurant being so accommodating without making you feel like a jerk for asking if they can substitute an ingredient. The service was very good. The staff was constantly on the move attending to customers, bussing tables, restocking dishes to be available for the next wave of customers, boxing to go orders, etc. I don't think I saw a single person standing idly by. They always seemed to find something to do, to be prepare, and to stay ahead. This is the sign of good management and ownership when every single employee is busy working and seeming to enjoy their job at the same time. The restaurant was busy, but I really didn't see a single upset or irritated customer. They kept the flow moving and were quick to anticipate what you might need next. The price was surprisingly affordable. Pizza and dessert shared by 2 people was under $40. We can't even get breakfast anywhere near where we live for less than $50 and dinner is always considerably higher than that. We even had leftovers of a couple slices of pizza to take with us. The quality of the food was outstanding for what we paid.

Stopped in for a bite to eat on a Friday night. The place was pretty busy and only had outside seating available but was a pleasant experience. Outside heaters and blankets were provided wich made it a wonderful experience. The food was good and everything had a little twist, everyday food with a little something extra. Only issue we has was a couple of the dishes were on the cold side but with that being said they were very busy. All and all a thumbs up.

The menu is varied and somewhat original. A group of my family went here for an early dinner. It's very busy on a Saturday! When we walked in we had a reservation and they seated us right away. The entry area is small and you have to dodge fast moving workers. We sat on the outside patio. Although covered a couple of our party were in the sun and got very hot. The waiter was polite and knowledgeable about the menu. Not very many beers on tap actually. They had one of my favorites though, Palette Jack IPA. I had the pear salad and it was very good. We also ordered pizza. I think I'm just not a fan of the "wood fired" pizza, because it comes out basically burnt but not crispy crust and too floppy. But the taste was good. We also ordered the shishito peppers and they were tasty. When you make a reservation it is for 1-1/2 hours ONLY. And they will come a let you know your time is up. I realize this is to keep the reservations timely for everyone, but at the same time it's a little off putting.

Service was friendly and prompt, and the pizza was ready quickly. The margarita pizza was a little skimpy on the toppings, but the carnivore, pepperoni and vegan pizzas’ toppings were more abundant. The Caesar salad could have used more dressing. The bottled root beer was excellent. The restaurant is near the river where there are wind surfers, but there is a large parking lot between them, blocking most of the view. The restaurant was clean.
