Food was very good quality and delicious. We had breakfast, 2 Mind the Gap and a Flying Scotsman. When we arrived we went inside to the desk and were given menus and were told to come back to order. We went back inside to order and were charged then before receiving the meals. What we didn’t realise until we checked the bill at home was that we were charged a ‘discretionary’ service charge of 12.5% on food when we had to go in and order it ourselves! I don’t call this a full waiting service and would prefer to decide whether I want to pay this ‘discretionary’ charge until after receiving the service.

Recommend by the friends we were with today, had the dogs with us on a long walk and stopped in.
Greeted by the team who were more than happy to seat us and the 2 dogs. I will say the customer service here is exceptional.
Venue is unique, warm, inviting and has a cosy welcoming feel - very much liked it.
Food - I had what I thought was a fish and chip sandwich, imagine my shear delight when the below came out! Absolutely perfectly cooked fish, crispy chips which were hot, baguette was fresh and lightly toasted. I am still full now.
If you ever get the chance, go here! Loved the menus as news papers & all the little touches.
Bravo.

I brought my little dog across to Yarmouth and wanted to try this restaurant, because of the food and style but also because it is award winning for being dog friendly. I was not disappointed. I arrived a few minutes early but was shown to my table. The server kindly took time to check which of the food items aimed at dogs would work for him (he is 20 and does not have many teeth). He had a duck and rice dish in the end, was very happy to eat this and then slept on the floor while I ate mine. I enjoyed the fish, chip and pea puree sandwich, alongside a Smoked Bloody Mary, both were delicious. Big portions but I just about managed to eat it all and was full for the rest of the day! The venue is themed as a train station and they've paid attention to detail in the design. It was a pleasure to eat here and if I return to Yarmouth then I will come back.

Booked a table for Sunday lunch at 2.00 for my husbands birthday. We travelled from Berkshire, to Lymington, ferry to the IOW to arrive and to be told that the Sunday roast dinner which we had come for had sold out! I understand that it is a first come first serve basis, but the restaurant was half full and I could see the roast still being served to another table, and would not expect a restaurant as experienced as this one to have run out so early. I felt sorry for the waitress who had to tell us, as could see this this was not the first time she has had to do this and disappoint customers. I did ask to speak to the Manager who did not come over to explain and try and encourage us to stay.
We decided to leave as really had our hearts set on a proper Sunday roast, and went to the 'Terrace', who were amazing when we explained what had happened, and told us 20 minutes and to go for a drink and they would sort a table, delicious lunch, great fun staff and they even did birthday cake for my husband and we had a really lovely time.

Lovely unique restaurant/cafe location with the interior decoration and lovely that dogs are allowed in and they have a choice of food to purchase for dogs (overall expensive cost for the food choices for what it is) best food was the chips they were delicious. They also add on a service charge which can be asked to be removed, I don’t agree with this as I always feel not many people will ask for it to be removed but the service was not worth that much of a tip! Not much parking spots outside the restaurant so already you are adding an additional £3+ for paying for the closest parking. Unique dining experience but I would not return.

We are saddened that you were not fully satisfied with your visit. We do remember your family visit (gorgeous puppy and lovely mannered children) and we recall swapping you to a table of your choosing after you didn't want to sit where you were supposed to, catering for the allergy you didn't mention in your booking and we recall you asking to remove the service too. This was done for you as it is never a problem and is totally up to the customer but our waitress did ask if everything was ok with your visit when you made this request and you never mentioned once being unhappy in any way.
You told her you 'prefer to tip in cash' (you didn't do this either) which is again totally up to you, but why would you not mention that you were unhappy with service or food etc when directly asked? We are a small team and try very hard to make sure our guests have the best experience possible so your comment about service being 'not worth that much' is actually insulting especially as the service charge was only a few pounds!
In summary, you came here and as far as we were made aware you enjoyed your visit but then decided to try and make us look bad online after the fact not giving us any opportunity to resolve any issues.
Totally Fair!

This is a very attractive place but unfortunately between 10:45 and 12 it is cakes and coffee only, no breakfast/brunch at all, and if you ask for a pain au chocolate, my son was told by a male, "no we have run out, and they are for breakfast only" delivered in quite a harsh manner! There is a "newspaper" telling you what the food is, which included a bizarre statement about why they do not serve options for children. Sadly £14 + for a sandwich lunch (there were other options too) was not what we wanted too much for us, and we went elsewhere. Sadly we felt off the rails was more style than substance. There was was a lady who was very pleasant however and they try very hard to be dog friendly.

We made a special trip over to OTR from the other side of the island as we went in 2020 when staying in Yarmouth and absolutely loved the quirky vintage train vibe. However today was a disappointment and it made us feel quite sad as one of our highlights from a happy holiday is no longer that.
This experience is due to ordering the cheese sandwich which was nothing like a cheese sandwich and really just tasted like a deconstructed pizza. I only ate half and flagged it when the waitress collected our plates but the item was not taken off the bill or even discounted. At £14 I feel this is a lot of money to pay for something which wasn’t as described or enjoyed. On the way out all that was offered was the service charge being removed - presented as some sort of favour to me rather than my prerogative not to pay! Left a really sad, sour taste in the mouth.

Basically, you ordered our cheese sandwich which clearly states on the menu the following: "A Cheese Sandwich like you have never experienced Before" We call it Eataly made enterally from bread and cheese so your statement that "it wasn't as described" is completely false. The waitress did a check back halfway through your meal to make sure everyone was happy, at which point you said absolutely nothing until they cleared your table and then you decided to say you did not like it but ate 90% of it!
I can tell you that we sold 389 Eataly the last 3 months and nobody has complained so there is absolutely nothing wrong with the dish, it wasn't to your taste which is completely irrelevant as to why we should have discounted it or removed from your bill, at the end of the day we are running a business and not a charity. In a nutshell, imagine buying a packet of crisp from the supermarket and not liking the flavour and wanting your money back – When you think you have seen or heard everything simply shameful!

This is a review of the positive attitude when we actually changed our minds and didn't stay to eat.
We were so excited to find this unique place, my 12 year old train enthusiast in particular, and were pleased to be seated in the train seats, with (novel) newspaper menus, but unfortunately the prices were way too high for me. The food may be nice but I cannot justify £14 for a fish finger sandwich or £10 for a bowl of soup! Desserts were about £7 and a small glass of wine was £8/£10!! I know you are just outside Freshwater but you are a cafe, so should have cafe prices. Anyway, when I had to say we were leaving instead of ordering (much to the embarrassment of my son, who although agreed it was expensive was still disappointed not to stay) the waitress was very polite and understanding explaining that they had to keep up with Freshwater prices but understood our predicament, so I wanted to say that she made an awkward situation quite pleasant and even let my son keep the menu/newspaper which is usually sold as a £3.00 souvenir.
Even when costs are so high for businesses, I still feel you could lower your prices a bit and then attract a broader market. But all the best anyway.

Disappointing visit. I took a friend who had come over to the island for the day as I remembered the cafe being quirky and thought it would be fun to take my friend to. We walked in, noting the sign on the door about no mud, no exception but were not sure what to do next. A young lady acknowledged us but without a welcoming smile told us to wait at the “booking office”. She then came over to confirm that we wanted “coffee and cake” and led us to a table. I felt slightly uncomfortable with the reception we received. However we loved the quirky menus and there was a great selection of hot drinks. Having received our drinks we then had to ask for a plate or a napkin to put our spoons on / it seemed such a basic thing. After a short time we were approached by the young person to inform us that our table would be needed in 10 minutes. We were quite taken aback by the suddenness of this, with no explanation and evidence of lots of empty tables around us. My friend and I just looked at each other as we were a bit shocked. My first reaction was then to say to my friend that I had no intention of rushing my drink (chai tea, nice but very sweet).
We carried on chatting and drinking. I was keeping an eye on the time working out that 10 minutes would be 11.55 and surely the table would be booked for 12, and as a result not really relaxing or enjoying the visit. Sure enough, we were then approached after about 10 minutes by the server with the bill which we had not asked for. We were still drinking at what I consider to be a reasonable pace. I did voice the fact that I wasn’t happy about this and we were then offered to move to another table. We were also provided with the explanation that the table had been booked online hence being needed. However we felt suitably insulted enough to not want to move at that point and also rather insulted. My friend is more forthright than myself and asked to speak to the manager who was very apologetic and said the staff knew not to do this and she would speak to them.
We were then left sitting with the bill with no idea of the process of paying. We proceeded to the “ticket booth” to pay which the manager dealt with. There was no offer to reduce the bill despite the fact that we were really unhappy about this experience.
I’m afraid that I won’t be returning.

Lovely food in a lovely setting. The food is way above average. But as others have said the prices are way too high for a cafe at lunch time. We each had the vegan chilli which was very nice. But £17 and then with an almost compulsory 12% service charge added on to the bill. Altogether with a cup of tea each the final bill was £45!!!

We went here on the recommendation of my son and his girlfriend.
My initial impression was quirky railway themed restaurant that feels more like a quaint cafe, slightly lacking in ambiance but that may have been down to it being midweek.
The menu is presented as a multi sheet newspaper which, while fun, was not particularly intuitive.
The niche and slightly irritating French music also clashed with the theme in my opinion.
That said, the food really was very good and my rating would have been higher if it weren’t for the price. It just didn’t strike me as good value given the setting.
Be aware that while there is parking on the adjacent street, the restaurant has no parking of its own.
Don’t bother going out of your way to compliment the chef on the wonderful white onion soup either…he’s simply not interested.

A good breakfast in an old railway station- sounds sublime!
Regrettably I cannot eat Baked Beans or Tomatoes so I requested that they substituted these with 2 or 3 extra Mushrooms. I was promptly directed to the statement at the foot of the menu that states that dishes cannot be altered in any way. - BUT If I wished I could purchase an additional portion of Mushrooms!
Needless to say I was charged for the items that were not served.
The parts of the meal that I was served were really good - what a shame that the proprietors do not understand the concept of Customer Satisfaction that invariably leads to repeat business and further recommendations.

Beautiful spot, amazing venue. Clean & fun with newspaper menus, good toilets etc. Good coffee & Delicious food however, average to poor service - water was forgotten when asked for; waitress twice in “railway office” on phone when needed. No bill bought over & mugs not cleared away at the end - then a service charge of 12.5% added. Restaurant less than half full so no excuse. So disappointing as hoped to bring the whole family but I won’t pay for substandard service.

Unusual setting making most of the history of the railway station. We booked for breakfast and as it was a rare warm morning sat outside on the platform. Breakfasts arrived without delay and were very enjoyable as was the coffee and fresh fruit juice. It is dog friendly and he has a venison sausage and dry treats before keeping a watchful eye on a frisky swan. Excellent service and great setting.

We really enjoyed our lunch and it was so nice to meet enthusiastic staff who seemed genuinely proud of the place and the food.
Great attention to detail with the decor and furnishings.
Fishfinger sandwich was yummy and very filling. Burger was very good quality.
Able to enjoy a scenic walk along a discussed railway track after lunch.
Can't wait to come back!
