We didn’t know what the menu looked like before arriving as I couldn’t find one online and once there, we opted for a chicken, bacon & lettuce wrap and fish finger sandwich, both of which were enjoyable. The cakes were really lovely as well. It was nice that there was a call/pay button on the outside tables so we didn’t even have to move to order. The lady who served us displayed exceptional customer service.

Having lived in the west Wight for over 20 years and driven past here many times today gave me the opportunity to visit. Wonderful service, the staff seem genuinely happy to see and greet us. The food was superb, freshly cooked and the kitchen staff obviously take pride in what they produce and its presentation. The waiting staff were friendly and approachable and very polite. What a treat this place is.

Visited today straight of the ferry and received a friendly welcome. The place was busy but we were served quickly and enjoyed a cream tea with delicious freshly baked scones. We will most definitely returning again.

Two oat flat whites ordered, £3.95 each according to all advertised pricing. Bill came with 75p added to each for the oat milk. When challenged this was removed but really poor service to a) not stating this pricing b) 75p to have alternative is just ripping people off when most places now do not charge and c) to be told that most places now charged due to price rises, well they don’t and customers should not have to put up with being told this after rightly highlighting that prices aren’t being advertised correctly. Nice to see that customers here that prefer milk alternatives are treated this way! All very poor, unlikely to be back.

A pleasant afternoon and the kids enjoyed painting pottery. The food was OK. They should explain on their website and when booking that unless you want to wait 2 weeks for a glazed and fired pot (collection only), you paint with acrylic paint for decorative use only. Once committed with the kids there's no going back, so to know beforehand is essential.

Our only reason for visiting was for one of the legendary cream teas we had had on previous visits to the Isle of Wight. Hugely disappointed to find they were no longer doing them and almost felt told off for asking if they still did I them. A curt ‘no’ was the response! Despite this being a must visit on every trip to the island, I will not be returning or visiting on any future trips. 😢😢

We stopped here for lunch after 2 hours of mountain biking on the Downs before heading back to the ferry at Yarmouth. Lovely outdoor seating area to take advantage of the sunny weather. Service was friendly and efficient. The local butcher's burger was delicious as were the cakes and coffee afterwards.

Stopped off at Chessell Pottery Cafe for a quick late lunch, as we arrived we noticed we were a couple of minutes late but a quick call to the kitchen and all was good. Service was quick and polite and they have adapted well to the current regulations, food was tasty with good portion sizes. Will be stopping again

We have visited and enjoyed the pottery since 2009. However upon a visit last year my wife was barked at when ordering cakes by the man we now know is the owner. We would always put something like this down to a bad day but upon returning this year she was barked at again firstly for walking in the place without his permission and secondly for not knowing we now have to book in advance. Things change of course, but surely the owners response should be a friendly pointing out of these changes. Whenever I (male) have spoken to him he’s been as nice as pie so clearly we have one of those weak men on our hands that sees women as easy game. The other staff are lovely and friendly and one even gave us a knowing nod when we asked if this particular gentleman was often like this. We won’t be returning. I would like to direct the owner to their own Facebook post from 4th June “after a glass of wine”. Perhaps a few glasses in the morning would help.

Thank you for your comments - not Mr Grumpy actually, just trying to safely manage our business and livelihood in extremely difficult circumstances - a third of our amazing staff currently isolating, so forgive us for trying to manage people flow. A small team of people working their socks off to try and keep our business open - apologies if your wife interpreted Mark as grumpy and a woman hater - he’s not - speaking as his fiancée! Enjoy the rest of your visit to our beautiful island and please don’t use Trip Advisor to slate small businesses doing their best in unprecedented times.

Many thanks we had a lovely afternoon tea, the garden setting is very relaxing. My son really enjoyed the gluten free scones and was glad there was still some available. We also visited the pottery shop and purchased some beautiful items. Georgia in the pottery shop was so kind and helpful. Very friendly staff and very clean. We will definitely be back one day. Many thanks

Had lunch with my family at Chessell Pottery Cafe. What a lovely place. The food was very tasty and I was able to have cake even though I have a dairy intolerance. The cake was delicious. Darren was the the extremely nice person who took us to our table and served us. We will be going back very soon.

Visited Chessell with my family for lunch, as we do most years as part of our annual family holiday to the island. However the owner was extremely rude to me when he thought I was attempting to go out of the main entrance rather than adhering to the one way system in place. When all I was doing was getting a menu in order for my family to decide what to have for lunch. Despite myself explaining my intentions, to pick up a menu and go out the correct way. He continued to challenge me by shouted at me across the cafe in front of other customers eating inside and waiting in the queue - Did I have a problem? Needless to say we left to find another place for lunch with better and more welcoming service. Such a shame as Chessell was a favourite of ours to visit but won’t be going back again, as clearly the owner has no respect for his customers. Just hope you visit when it’s his day off, as he clearly needs one !

We travelled from Guildford and America to the island for a short break! Have been told it’s a friendly and nice place to have lunch. The signage was poor when we looking for a parking space, the actual parking space is located on the other end of the building, on a different road! We mistakenly driven in and realised the car park is elsewhere. When trying to reverse out, the place was so narrow and one of the ground staff told us that we did a bad job and reversed on the path! We apologise and tried to get to the car park! The car park is next to a field, the signage was poorly displayed and it was full. We had no choice but to abandon the plan to visit. I would not recommend this place for visit. It’s not a friendly place, definitely not parking friendly.

Arrived today for quite busy lunch, no problem we were waiting quietly where we had been asked to wait by the staff. A hugely aggressive man who was ‘managing’ the front of house asked us if we had a table which we said we did and then told us we were waiting in the wrong place. We explained we were waiting where we’d been asked to wait and he launched into a tirade of awfulness and asked us to leave! He also called me an Arse! Completely unbelievably rude and totally unnecessary. We weren’t being rude or impatient or complaining about the Covid rules at all. 100% unnecessary and 100% unacceptable. Very disappointed and an ugly experience.

Have visited Chessell pottery cafe on many occasions- it never fails to impress. It is a tranquil oasis in the middle of the beautiful Isle of Wight. The choice of cakes make it difficult to choose between them. The staff are a very friendly bunch, that always take time for smile and chat. They are fully covid compliant, with a one way system set up and tables either inside or outside well spaced out. In these difficult times it leaves you reasurred that this IS a safe place to visit. Well done to the team at Chessell. We'll be back. 😍
