Well renowned locally for its great beer and cider options this pub is very under rated for its food. Chilli and coriander prawns were delicious. Proper size and flavour to match. Figs and prosciutto starter was excellent as were the tomatoes and Halloumi. The creamiest Halloumi ever from the Briddlesford dairy IOW according to my wife. Duck and sweet potato mash for £17 was excellent value and cooked perfectly pink. Large pan fried sea bass for £17 also compares really favourably with other restaurants. The best presented sweet potato curry my wife can remember on the island. If you consider the Wheatsheaf as a drinks only establishment then you’re definitely missing a trick. Strong recommendation and the sommelier also knows his wine. A Californian Cabernet Sauvignon which was new to me was a joy. A rethink over the established order of quality and value food in Yarmouth is right here.

A number of locals had recommended The Wheatsheaf and staying locally we decided to visit for food and the live music. Table 12 seated us in an ‘enclosed’ area that was good fun. First food, a superb Crab Mornay and an onion bhaji for starters followed by fried fillet of Hake, with cauliflower fritters, savoy cabbage and bacon, cauliflower purée and new potatoes- the fish was cooked perfectly and we both cleared our plates. We passed on puddings but there was a good choice. A selection of Lilys ciders went well down with the wife and I had a couple of good cask ales and a craft beer. The live music was enjoyable on a Wednesday night. Staff friendly and service exceptional - dog friendly too, our pooch tucked into a few pork scratchings. Highly recommend.

Food quality, particularly the tender meat, and selection of choices was very good. The service prompt informal and friendly. In this day and age the drinks only coming to £18 each round for four of us. Really good. On IOW with its many good pub chefs etc, we would recommend the Wheatsheaf because of the friendly informal yet professional prompt service. An altogether relaxed enjoyable Wednesday Evening. To Adie and your team ..a Thanks.

Maybe a pub for a drink but certainly don't eat. 4 people had a simple main course which was small, dried up overcooked and tasteless, I cannot belive a chef let it out of the kitchen. We ordered a £6 bottle of supermarket wine and charged £26! We did have other beverages but were presented with a bill of £140 I wanted to complain but my friends didn't want any fuss. Never again.

We go to Yarmouth quite a lot and have been to the many pubs/ restaurants. The service was dreadful! Story… We arrived at the wheatsheaf around 5pm and asked if they was open and serving food and was advised : Along With a smug comment of ‘I wouldn’t be standing here if we wasn’t open’ We will be serving from 6pm (as advised on the notice board) and they was down a chief Our response (5 of us) was that’s okay we can have drinks for an hour.. We tried to sit at a table asked if this was the okay Was told that he ‘would rather not, as this table is for food, and his boss may walk in and tell him off’ We sat else where We then asked if the waitress wouldn’t mind bringing us the menus when food was being served. At gone six we asked the chap if we could have some menus he said they would check what they was serving. Upon return he said they wouldn’t be serving food till at least 7-8pm as they are fully booked and down a chief… (We was first in the door of the empty bar/ restaurant) No mention of pre-bookings or reserved tables before we entered the empty restaurant under the impression we could eat in and spending after £40 on drinks in the hour During this hour no mention of no food … We decided to leave as we was mislead under false pretence, with it being obvious that the people didn’t book… none mentioned behind up that they had as you would upon entry…. On exit we mentioned that we was quite cross being mislead and perhaps lied to…. Weather down to being under organised or just blagging it … The chap (same as before) did his best to antagonise the situation and piss us off… pointing his hand towards the door … and telling us that you can read the booking book if you like ( actually breaking the law gdpr) The manager came over and was quit pleasant and handled the situation better… whilst the other chap was interrupting looking ready to hit one of us (pumped up his chest like a bouncer) and further antagonising the situation 2 kids where present ….. Not good customer service at all or just plain good old fashioned manners Not at all handled well we was never advised about the reservations even when about to take a table we was offered it cleared not it’s reserved … He spent an hour for us to buy drinks then lied about his original word which is 5 against one clearly lying … Just angry about the service …

Stumbled upon this quaint little pub, in a back road in Yarmouth. Popped in for an early lunch, which was a good sign as they were fully booked for later. Food was great, came really quickly, massive range for all tastes and proper fresh local fish. The kids portions are huge, but made from the same ingredients, which was nice to see, the fish hadn’t been substituted for cheap fish fingers etc. great little find, we left stuffed, and very happy

The Wheatsheaf in Yarmouth is a real find, I can't believe I've missed out on coming here sooner! Their takeaway window serves the most incredible brisket, burnt ends, cheese slaw, crab etc and the portions are large. For the money, this is incredible value. I'll be back very very soon. If you're landing on the island, or leaving via the Yarmouth ferry, you simply must not buy cruddy food on the boat, either wait and visit here when you disembark, or buy some to take into the boat. One meal would definitely serve 2 people! My highest recommendation. The guys are super friendly, too, and happy to talk about ingredients, allergens etc. A+++

Being in Yarmouth to celebrate a friends birthday, despite already being seated at a table for the afternoon at another establishment, we were informed we could not eat as we were classed as a walkin. The Wheatsheaf was approached and, despite being quite a large party (7), they were happy to accommodate. 7pm on a Friday they can only be commended. We received great service, the staff were fantastic and our meals excellent 👌 We will certainly be returning 👍

Everything about this pub was lovely. Our greeting on arrival, the treats offered to our dog, the staff and especially the food. Everyone ordered different dishes and everyone's food was very, very good and not too expensive. Would recommend booking.

Initially, we went on a day that the chef was on leave - which was disappointing so we just had some drinks outside, in a covered table since it was raining. The second time we went was for dinner service. There were a lot of people there and we did not reserve a table however, the staff were very accommodating and sat us at a small table for two. The waitress asked if she could give our dog a treat which of course we said yes and they gave us their menu. It was a small menu but it looked like they had some good options. We ate a three course meal and it was wonderfully prepared and the portion sizes were very good. My husband tried one of their beer tasting boards and enjoyed that as well. Its near where we're staying at the Air B&B, its dog friendly, the food, drinks and staff were very nice. Its a welcoming place and I recommend drinking and eating here :)

Great afternoon at a lovely pub. We took part in The Wheatsheaf’s six beer tasting session which also included a bar snack each from their delicious menu. The pork bellies fell apart on our forks, and the salt & pepper squid on aioli were fabulous. We relaxed in the beer tasting area and were served six beers by the friendly, knowledgable manager Adrian. Adrian introduced each beer going into a lot of detail about each one. If you attend a session my advice is the afternoon should be appreciated and the beers enjoyed; the event is more akin to a wine tasting session rather than a pub crawl, although there are many, many draught ales, lagers and ciders to try if you are not attending a beer tasting session. Scoring cards are provided and even though we had very little knowledge we had great fun discussing the pros and cons of each beer. Adrian provide us with a jug of cold water each which we forgot to use until the final beer. Defiantly make the time to clear your pallet to ensure you enjoy each offering. The roast dinner that came to the table next to us looked fabulous. As we as repeating the beer tasting, with difference beers at some point, we will definitely be eating at some point too.

I can only assume that the previous review is completely fictional and malicious. We live in Yarmouth and regularly eat at the wheatsheaf. I have never had a bad meal, the manager is friendly and very efficient as are his staff, why write a bad review without giving the establishment a chance to put things right at the time? You say you didn’t want to make a fuss so you take the cowards option and hide behind your keyboard And you’re a wine expert as well ? This review is absolutely vile and untrue, do us all a favour go back to the mainland and don’t bother coming back.

Can't rate this place highly enough. They squeezed us in and I'm very glad they did. The drinks are great, but the food is excellent. We had Duck, Sea bass and Macaroni cheese followed by Sticky toffee pudding and Passionfruit Pomfret. The staff are all really lovely too. Don't hesitate to book.
