We were telephoned the night before we left on a 200+ mile journey, to be told that the owner had had a water leak in the pub, but was still able to offer us accommodation in a ‘cottage’ in the car park. He said that...there was no food being offered in the pub that evening, but at no point said that breakfast (included in the price) would be unavailable. He simply did not mention breakfast at all. When we asked about the breakfast on arrival, he said he would ‘sort something out’. In the morning, breakfast turned out to be two cereals which one of us could not eat, and also fruit juice. My husband located the chef in the pub, who was preparing meals for the lunchtime, so obviously facilities were at hand, but the owner had left the premises. Had we known that breakfast would not be offered, but still be charged for it, we could have arranged alternative accommodation, especially as were only halfway through our journey. The owner has not responded with our request for a refund for the non- breakfast.More

Thank you for your review. This must be the most extraordinary scenario I have ever had to deal with here. To make up a story like this, put it on Tripadvisor for everyone to see and then to contact me to say that you will...More

Spent the weekend here recently. Staff very helpful and friendly. Ate in the pub Friday night, tasty tapas, good service. Rooms comfortable and clean with everything you need, hairdryer, kettle etc. Asked for milk as non in the room and they gave us a jug....Definitely recommend.More

Lovely pub and food service was extremely quick (perhaps worryingly so). However, we much preferred the old conventional menu where you can get a full meal. Tapas menu is extensive, but expensive and much of the menu must have been pre-prepared as such a range...of dishes couldn’t possibly all have been prepared to order and served so quickly. Great way to reap a lot of profit as the pub recommends you order 2/3 dishes each which really adds up. Would be better if burgers from children’s menu were well-done as standard. We weren’t asked how the children would like the burgers and they were cooked rare which is not appealing for most children. Please bring back the old menu - was really looking forward to a lovely steak!More

Thank you for taking the time to leave feedback. However, your points are unfair and inaccurate. Every single dish is prepared fresh every day in house. The simplicity of our dishes means that this can be done relatively quickly as we choose to let our...More

So really looked forward to the Tapas special and to be fair most of the food was lovely. The service was good however when we sampled the chicken thigh it was definitely off. Taste was sour and fermenting and the smell unpleasant. We mentioned this...and the price of the chicken was deducted however service charge was added so the reduced price was laughable. My friend and myself have been extremely sick since. The lady serving the food said another customer has commented on the chicken being off. I would expect a lot more empathy when being fed off poultry. So be aware. This is completely unacceptable serviceMore

We love this pub and have frequented it for the last 30 years. We were delighted with the refurbishment the present landlord undertook and the return to small changing menus using local produce. During the lockdown a questionnaire was sent out and we put down...all the things we liked about the menu and some minor suggestions ( sandwiches at lunchtime). When pubs started reopening last summer all was well and we enjoyed evening meals and snack lunches. Then… tapas… by definition they are only snacks or appetisers. Tasty but small, expensive and not a meal. We are really sad that our favourite pub no longer does ‘meals’. We have been twice but sadly we won’t be eating again until we have a choice other than tapas.More

Thank you for your review. I am sorry that you don't like our British Tapas. It has actually been really well received as people like the chance to experience lots of different flavours and really fresh, local ingredients. We have also had lots of positive...More

We were staying locally and booked a table here, found it busy with diners and is a classic British pub. The meals are British bistro style with a reasonable menu, would recommend the pork belly - found that there weren’t many dessert choices we were...interested in. Worth a visit and try out!More

Lovely room, in a beautiful old pub. We ate on the premises in the evening. Excellent food and the staff were attentive but not too intrusive. I thoroughly recommend thiscas a place to stay.

We visited the George as we were staying in an Airbnb over the road and our host recommend it to us. The food is unique as more of a tapas style. There’s plenty of choice and food was well presented and very tasty. The staff...were attentive and friendly. The Hawthorns gin is worth a try as is the ginger fudge !More

We stayed at the airbnb opposite Bourne House, owner recommended this pub. Menu had recently changed to a sharing platter only menu, owner Patrick was very kind and informative as to whether we had ordered enough for 2 people! Was a wonderful selection, very quick...service and well worth the money!!More

Tapas menu. Nice food. Not for us as we refer traditional pub menu and Sunday roast. Staff were very courteous and friendly and pub itself was lovely.
