My colleagues were in Raleigh North Carolina for business. We made reservations at Poole for 7 people, showed up and were told they couldn’t accommodate us do to being overbooked. Two days later, we made reservations again. Was told we were all set, until we...showed up in person. Again, we were denied service and told that our reservations were only for 2 people. The “manager” was dismissive, saying she didn’t have time for “this.” It was quite clear, with no seated people of color, that Black and Brown people are not welcome at Pooles Diner. Which is fine!More

Delicious! Excellent service. Bright aesthetic, tasty meal and great cocktails. The eggplant parmigiana wasn’t too heavy. Focaccia pillowy soft.

The good: The service was great (except for being mildly slow int he beginning). Our waitress was patient and helpful in explaining the dishes. The mac and cheese was above average (not the best I've ever had.) but had a nice crust and a nice...unique flavor. The baguette had an amazing crust to it and was cooked to just the right level. The onion and gruyere tart was an interesting dish. Wasnt amazing but wasn't bad. One of the deserts we had was strawberry hand pies with lemon ice cream. The crust was light and fluffy with a tasty strawberry filling. The lemon ice cream was also really nice and I'm not usually a fan of lemon flavored things. The cons: The entrees were Bad. We got The beef shank which came out pretty dry and flavorless though the onions on top were tasty. We also got the cider pork cheeks on a bed of peas. The pork cheeks were cooked to a good level of tenderness but were pretty utterly devoid of flavor as well and the peas were super bland as well. At $30-40 a pop this should not be your experience. One of the deserts we had was the a chocolate hazelnut pudding type of dish with soft creme on top and it was just truly awful. The whole dish was bitter and earthy. Truly disappointing. We won't be back and I think there are many better places to spend your money in the Raleigh area.More

Poole's seems to always be full. We had late reservations, so many of the guests were finishing their meals and headed home. It felt like the kitchen staff had gone home, too! However, when the food arrived it was the same high quality we've experienced...in the past. I always order the pimento cheese and fried saltines - a huge serving, enough for 4 people. The unpretentious menu has down East (North Carolina) items, done in unique ways, such a chicken, pork chops, fish.More

Disappointing when you are a local. Make a reservation a week in advance for 730pm. And get treated so poorly that the staff and managers can’t even give an honest and humble apology. Industry folks don’t need to give other service industry the same song...and dance. We get paid to read body language and make the experience better. The ‘acceptable range of wait time’ during the week and during a socially distanced staggered seating time does not take one hour for one entree and two separate vegetarian sides. And saying the same thing over and over again to the customer during the conversation still doesn’t make it better. I paid for the drinks like a respected customer should and left with no food at 9pm. Dominoes was the only thing open downtown and they at least smiled and said thank you.More

The mac and cheese was amazing! Seriously the best I’ve ever had! We shared this and the pimento cheese spread with fried crackers which was good as well. I can’t wait to go back and have dinner there!

We ordered 4 meals for pick-up to celebrate a birthday and everything was great. The pork loin and the greens were cooked perfectly and portions were generous. We can recommend and we will get food from their again.

I heard of this restaurant while visiting another Jame's Beard recognized restaurant in Minneapolis. Here's my take. This restaurant has character, it has exceptional food, no set menu, and a helpful efficient staff. I love the repurposing of an old diner into a unique cool...restaurant. This place is unique. That being said...it is also overpriced. $32 for chicken? $28 for a short rib? I will probably try it again to futher explore some of the menu items but I will stay away from the expensive main items and stick to the sides and other items. If you are looking for a cool place with a good vibe then check it out.More

Always good. Not much selection but you can’t go wrong. Had a brusslesprout salad. Wonderful flavor not over powering. Had the nc bass. The fish was cooked perfectly. The bean salad it was on top of was fresh and wonderful. Friends had chicken and mash...potatoes and loved it. We all shared her famous Mac n cheese. Plus chess pie. Everything was great. Only complaint the wine list is very expensive. They need some more reasonable wines cheapest which was good is $35. A glass of wine $16. They dont need to be that expensive. Will be backMore

Service was very good. Staff was friendly. The Mac n Cheese was rich and tasty. Pimento cheese app was average. Bibb salad was ok. Both were overpriced. The lump crab and cornbread app was very good. The sauce for the scallop and shrimp entree was...disappointing. The roast chicken entree was tasty. Both were overpriced at $32 and 30 each. Beer and glass of wine were overpriced too. I would not go back. Not worth the money.More

Casual They want you to enjoy the food. It's not about the place or the special decor. It's the food that's the feature.
