Three of us ordered the lobster tails. However we received lobster bites and were told they took it out of the shell and cut it up for us — never heard of that. Especially at a restaurant claiming to be fine dining. When wr spoke...to the manager he told us there was a special of lobster bites that was the same price. That makes no sense to have a special that was just chopped up for the same price. Feel we were given a cheaper dish and charged the higher price. Disappointing.More

This was a horrible visit! We’ve eaten here numerous times and it is always good! This one was not! When our server came and poured our water it had so much stuff floating in it I asked did they cut lemons up in it. Our...server responded no. He took glass and came back with another pitcher. This one too, had stuff in it. After 4 pitchers we told him to forget it. He said well I don’t know, I filled it from the faucet myself . I don’t drink wine and since their tea is made with same water we had nothing to drink during our dinner. Our server never offered anything else nor apologies. We got our food. Mine was delicious, however, the asparagus was burnt and 2 of the people at our table got steaks. They were raw. Not slightly done, but red blood pouring from them. Both had to be sent back with one going back twice. 4 people we finished eating at 3 different times because of their food being sent back. At no point did our server offer any concessions on anything. No free dessert, no discount. NOTHING. Except oh sorry Had this been our first visit we would never come back, but as stated we’ve been numerous times so we will try one more time. For these prices you expect better than this. Reys you may want to consider a filter for the tap! And train your servers that customers deserve better than this!More

We had an excellent dinner at Rey's on Saturday night. It was so good we went back on Sunday and repeated our same menu selection from Saturday evening. Diana and Ellie are great bartenders and they also served us in the bar on Sunday. I...would like to give DANA a big shout out for rescuing my cellphone from the UBER driver. You are the best!!!!More

The service at this restaurant was very rude. When I ask for anything the waiter had an attitude and was rushing for us to leave. I reported the incident to management and instead resolving the issue he basically stated the waiter wasn't suppose to help...our table and she was tired. I informed the manager that instead of making excuses he could of at least apologize for my service and did not apologize and just stared into my eyes. The food is awful please do not go this restaurant I wouldn't wish this kind of service on my worst enemy.More

We visited Rey's last night for our adult son's birthday. He had never been there; but was in the mood for a special dining experience. My husband and I had only been there once-about a decade ago. We were rushed that night (kid at a...birthday party at the roller rink next door)-and I regret that this somehow hasn't been in our "special occasion" restaurant rotation for all these years. Everything was exceptional. Food, service, ambiance. Adrian was our waiter; but there was a team that made sure that our water glasses stayed full; and our (regretfully) empty plates were cleared. Highlights were apps, sides, lamb, steak, oysters, bread, wine list, dessert;....:) Rey and Company are gonna be seeing a lot of us in the future!More

Been there 3 times and ate at the bar each time. Very friendly with great food and service. Portions are plentiful and everything good (caesar salad, New Orleans shrimp (Mr. B's is better, sorry! :)), and a great filet this last time.

I had heard so many good things but experienced the exact opposite. Disclaimer-lived in New Orleans for many years and know fine dining. Food was incredibly bland-fish was not fresh plus the presentation was terrible. My plate looked like I was being served puréed fancy...feast. My bf had filet and it was served almost raw when he had asked for medium, but we couldn’t find a server to switch it out. We still paid an astronomical amount of $$ ($250) and it was a complete waste. The owner should be embarrassed by our experience!More

We aren't from the Raleigh area, but our friends are, and we'd eaten at Rey's before and had a disappointing time, but this time our food was very good. Other than being seated by and looking into the kitchen, and it was a busy night,...so our server was abrupt but OK. They have a nice wine list and I did get a good Belvedere Martini with blue cheese olives, take was a plus. We had the wedge salad, which was very good. My wife had the Rack of Lamb that was cooked just as she ordered it and I had the Veal Marsala and that too was very good. Our friends had the Flounder, and they thought it was very good too. Maybe if we were seated elsewhere and had a more friendly server, it would have been a better experience. Rey's can be very good, but I think they just get overwhelmed.More

Yeah the service was great but the food not, Ruth Chris is better. Lamb is supposed to be tender, gross mint sauce that destroys your taste buds. Such a disappointment since we've put off going here for years

My daughter and SIL, and our two grandsons took my husband and I out to dinner for my birthday. We went a week early, as we were going out of town. The atmosphere was peaceful, classy, elegant. Our table was toward the left back and...there was a delightful fire going in the fireplace. Our grandsons are accustomed to nice things and fine dining. It had been awhile though with Covid since they had been out, too and both commented on how very nice the restaurant looked. We ordered drinks, appetizers, many different entrees and each were wonderfully delicious. In addition, our desserts were equally as good; Cream Brulee, and cherry and banana fosters jubilee, ablaze at table side. The boys enjoyed this, as well. By the way, they were well mannered and carried on delightful conversation with our servers! The other day, a normal weeknight, the youngest pops up, he's seven, and says let's go to Rey's for dinner! You can not go wrong for any meal or special occasion here! An exceptional evening and birthday celebration!More

My husband and I made reservations a few days ahead of time. We have eaten at Rey's a few weeks ago and had enjoyed it, so we decided to go again. When we arrived, we had to wait quite a while only to be offered...a table in the bar instead of the dining room. The hostess had been asked by quite a few other people who, like us, had made reservations, and were told that there were a lot of large groups, so they didn't have any tables. Not really a good excuse in our book, as a restaurant of this caliper should be able to adequately schedule their reservations. I happen to be vegan, but my husband is a true carnivore. That being said, I looked online where they advertise "vegan options", but called ahead to see if something other than the vegetable plate could be prepared for me. It seems to be all that is ever offered to us vegans at these high end restaurants. The hostess said that there is a pasta dish on the menu and that it is vegetarian. I then asked if there was egg in the pasta and she put me on hold to find out for me. When she returned to the line I was told, "The pasta does have egg in it and they have no other pasta in the restaurant." Nothing else was offered to me. Hoping that at least there would be some good bread and salad to compliment my meal, we decided go anyway, and my husband looked forward to a great steak. After being seated, our drink order was taken in a decent amount of time by a waitress. It took 25 minutes for our wine to arrive so we decided to air on the side of caution and go ahead and place our dinner order when the wine was finally delivered. While waiting on our drinks, bread was delivered to the table by another waiter. At this point, we weren't quite sure if they were both our waitstaff or if it was just one of them. The bread was already toasted with butter on it, so I asked for bread without butter (I don;t eat dairy), and the waiter went off to the kitchen. He returned to let us know that all the bread had been prepared that way before the shift and that unfortunately this often happens on Sunday night and they didn't have any other bread. We now realized why all the bread had been toasted...great way to disguise day old bread...toast it and add some melted butter. Ok, so much for the good bread to compliment my meal! I ordered a salad, which came about 20 minutes later. It was very good, and my husband and I shared it. Almost an hour later our meal still had not arrived and we decided to catch the waiter and find out what was going on. We had hired a sitter, and although we had given ample time for dinner, we didn't think we would be home as promised. A few minutes later, our meals arrived. My husband's steak was very undercooked, and my potatoes were overcooked. At this point, we had to eat in a hurry and didn't have time to say anything to have it all corrected. My husband ate from the edge of his $50 steak and I ate some of my potatoes and veggie platter and we had our food boxed to go home and asked for the check asap. The waiter apologized and offered a free dessert to be sent home with us for having to wait so long. Since nothing vegan is offered (the waiter kind of nervously joked/smiled), my husband took a cheesecake and we hurried on home...late. I don't think we will ever go back. Overall: 1) Fix your reservation system so you can seat those who you promised a table. 2) Wait staff not attentive enough to see that it was taking way too long for our drinks and meals to arrive. 3) Temperature in the bar area was too cold, and there was an air vent pointing directly down on us cranking away the whole time. 4) No bread left because it's Sunday? No excuse! Figure it out and plan accordingly. 5) Get with the program! This is 2021. Not all of us eat meat or dairy, yet our spouses do. Have some options on the menu for those that don't...or offer to make something.More

Last night I took my wife to Rey’s. I had eaten there years ago and I wanted to take my wife out to a nice spot! Food looked great but tasted so bland!! Salt and pepper will go a long way if used! We boxed...up our ribeye and pork chops only to come home and recook with seasonings. Almost 200 spent and still have to recook it to be able to eat and ENJOY! Never going again! They cook the food specifically for the majority crowd tastebuds which require no season! Did want to complain in front of a room of white people, didn’t want them to think I was trying to get something for free!More

First, I want to thank our server [Kristy B] for her fine service and cheerfulness during our visit. We visited REY’S for our anniversary on 2/24/21. We had requested a quiet booth and were shown to one without delay. We ordered a nice Cabernet to...begin the evening and ordered the calypso berry salad 9split in two. The salad was very nice. We then ordered a Filet and the Rack of Lamb. Kristy reminded us that the chef recommends the lamb be served ‘medium’ and we ordered the filet the same with a side of lobster Mac&cheese and grilled asparagus. The filet arrived first and we decided to split it while awaiting the remaining items. Sever minutes later, the lamb arrived (with no sides). My wife cut into the thickest lamb chop and discovered it was extremely well done. We caught Kristy’s attention and she apologized and indicated she would have it replaced. Our sides arrived shortly thereafter and 15 minutes later the replacement lamb was brought out. Kristy asked us to check the lamb to ensure it was perfect. My wife cut into the thickest one and it was seared on the outside and raw inside. Kristy apologized and took it back indicating she would have the issue corrected. Ten minutes later, we had a properly prepared lamb. By then, the filet was gone, the remaining sides were cold and we were rightfully disappointed. The owner-Rey- walks around to say hello to everyone at some point. When he passed by a second time and asked how everything was, we politely indicated the lamb had been brought back 2 times. He said thanks and we never saw him again. For a $250 meal, this was extremely disappointing and I cannot recommend this establishment.More

First time at Rey's. Went for 61st anniversary dinner. The entire visit was absolutely first class. Everything. We have traveled extensively over our 61 yrs and eaten in the best places from Honolulu to San Francisco to NYC, Charleston, Savanna, Omaha and Chicago. Rey's is...equal to any of them. They are doing it the way it should be done. Old school. Gary CoxMore

I started the meal with turtle soup, something I had never eaten before. I asked a server what kind of turtle it was. She didn't know. So she walked into the kitchen to ask the chef, who said it was red snapping turtle. The soup...was quite good. Then I had the flounder, which was stuffed with crabmeat and topped with shrimp. Plenty of very tasty food, enough for me to leave with a doggie bag. A pricey meal, but well worth it. Very good service.More
