Soup half cooked, gummy wontons. Broth nothing to brag about. General’s chicken 1 star is generous. Service was fair. Out of four entrees -one star each. Food was dry and tasteless. Waste of time and money.

Visited Five Star in their new location. Very nice place - they have upgraded and have electricity! (Just Kidding but their old place was too dark). Food was again very good and hopefully will stay consistent. This was our first time eating in a restaurant...since March - good to get out.More
I have been searching for years for a decent sit in restaurant for Chinese food. I was excited when i saw Five Star. The tables are extremely close and the man next to me had to use my table to support himself while getting up...from his table. There wasn't anything special or that blew me away. The best thing we had were the shrimp spring rolls. We ordered the lettuce wraps and they were blah and difficult to eat since they used iceburg lettuce instead of bib lettuce. The pad Thai noodles with shrip were ok. The noodles were thick and not the traditional rice noodles. Having said this, the place was packed. The good side is we found Wye Hill Kitchen and Brewing which has amazing outdoor seating and a spectacular view of the city.More
I was searching for a good Chinese food restaurant and Five Star came up. I didn’t know that this place existed. In looking at the menu it looked a little pricey to me, but I decided to try it anyway. The restaurant opens at 5...so I called at about 5:10 to get a to go order of hot and sour soup, spring rolls, shrimp fried rice, and Kung Pao chicken. The soup container was less than halfway full. The shrimp fried rice was simply that, shrimp and rice, no onion or egg. The Kung Pao chicken was a thin covering on the bottom of the container with a few peanuts. They also neglected to give me rice with the entree. The food tasted pretty good, but this Is not the place for take-out. I will probably not go back.More
The food was great- all of our food tasted great and the portions were very generous. The service was so so. A little slow and it did not all come out at the same time. I would definitely recommend and go back.
Excellent food and excellent service. If you are craving an outstanding Chinese dinner, go to Five Star. Easily the best Chinese food in the Triangle.
We often go to 5 Star. They have a great variety at reasonable prices. There is always enough to fill you up. The fiod is always quite tasty. I think the best Chinese in the Raleigh area. Give it a try.
It was just ok, nothing special. One of the dishes a member in our party described it as shrimp with mayo on it. Another had pork chops and said it was fair. Noodles were bland.
I gave this place 2 stars and would have only given it one if the food wasn't good. Hostess was having a bad night. She's the taller brunette. No smile when you walk in she was throwing our water glasses around. She got more angry...at us when we asked why after sitting for 10 minutes why we hadn't been served drinks. Waitress tried to make up for it and did well. Unfortunately my dinner came out 15 minutes after everyone else's at the table. All my friends had already eaten. Someone forgot my order. No Manager came to apologize and the waitress did not offer anything. I had to ask at the end of the meal why my dinner was not comp'd. They did finally comp it at the end. We all agreed that we won't be back. Foods good though ROFLMore
We went to five star on a Friday evening. They do not open until 5:30 PM but it was worth the wait! We had the crab ran goons and the fires seeker shrimp but heard Many other people recommending a lot of the other appetizers....The portions were large and flavor was fantastic. The restaurant itself is in an industrial setting and beautiful inside. Well worth the price!More
We've eaten at Five Star several times over the years. It's in an interesting location - Raleigh's warehouse district - and a long time favorite of those who know it. Five Star doesn't disappoint - while the menu is relatively short the food is good,...the service always good and the servings are generous. Five Star isn't the most creative but it is always good.More
I see everyone rating "excellent" and "very good", but between overall rude service and poor sesame fried beef I considered rating "poor". Would have never found this spot if friends wouldn't have invited us. Love Chinese food, so happy to try it. Got seated, the...guy with the beard was our waiter. My drink order was a Hendricks martini with muddled cucumber and a splash of vermouth" - his response was "Would you like anything else in their?" with a snotty tone. Then we weren't sure what to order as appetizers so again with a tone he said "Have you guys never been here before? We've been opened 17 years, where have you been?"- I get that this is a casual restaurant, but that doesn't mean that cordial service goes out the window. Appetizers were great - fried pork dumplings and crab rangoon. Was going to get the duck as my entree, but he steered me away from it so I went with the sesame fried beef - AWFUL! It's too bad cause everyone else mains looked delicious. Don't think I'll be returning.More
I stayed in Raleigh all week and this was by far the best food I had all week - absolutely delicious. In an out of the way location but well worth finding it. Very popular - understanably we had to wait 45 minutes for a...table but well worth it and the good choice of beers at the bar more than compenasated, so booking is advisable. Staff super efficient friendly and knowledable.More
I hadn't been to Five Star in years. As a matter of fact, my daughter just turned 12, that is how long it had been. I recently went to celebrate my 40th Birthday and I think the service is still above amazing. From the door...to when I was seated at my table, I was very happy with the hospitality and customer service. The food was even better than I remembered. My friends are already ready to return.More
