About
Taverna Agora is an authentic Greek kitchen & bar where friends & family enjoy good wine, eat wonderfully prepared, simple food and relax. The restaurant is reminiscent of gathering places found in Greece, with old world flavors and rustic roots. However, Taverna Agora expands beyond the traditional agora with a few modern flares, including hand-crafted cocktails, a gourmet marketplace and Sunday brunch.

Some of the other reviews are spot on, so I'm going to borrow their phrases. The service is attentive and professional. The food is homely and delicious, whether you are looking for appetizers or a full meal. If you have any room for dessert, you won't be disappointed with the homemade baklava. Finally, when the bill comes, you won't get sticker shock; it’s reasonably priced. My personal favorites are the calamari for appetiser and for the main seafood pasta, both were outstanding and flavoursome - if you are in a quandary try the specials, they looked homely and delicious! Others in our party had various appetisers and mains, the majority were delicious, unfortunately one dish, the moussaka was dry. The wine list is pretty good with the Greek wines both white and red are pleasing to the pallet, no complaints. The service was friendly, not rushing us but also ensuring we were always taken care of. I would recommend Taverna Agora for any event. The only downside, as like most modern trends the noise levels are rather high in the downstairs restaurant area. If you are in a romantic mood may I suggest you look upstairs on the rooftop patio/terrace. Its a beautiful outdoor location decorated with Rustic lanterns, grapevines and romantic ambiance blended with sophisticated style Would I return, most definitely!

We stumbled onto this restaurant while looking for a spot to park at another restaurant. It looked inviting and we decided to give it a try. It was a busy Friday night but the staff was quick to greet and seat us. There was a small live band playing wonderful Greek music much to the enjoyment of all the diners. It was a lively atmosphere punctuated by a belly dancer who moved all about the dining rooms. The waiter was attentive and thorough who listened well and offered options to accompany our requests. The food was perfect and served within a reasonable amount of time. All in all we were completely satisfied and hope our travels return us to Raleigh so we can visit Taverna Agora again.

The Taverna Agora offers some great Greek dining in Raleigh. The staff were accommodating for my request to dine outside and cleared a table. There were a few service hiccups like not providing silverware and bringing out my appetizer after my main course had arrived. That said they recognized the error and made amends. The lamb chops were good albeit very rare which was not my request. However, I particularly enjoyed the squash vegetable and lemon buttered potato, both were excellent. Server staff were very pleasant which added to the overall meal experience. The outside dining is great.

The saganaki was not even authentic. At least compared to the 8 or so times I ate it in Greece. The cheese was different and was served with tomatoes. It tasted more like gorgonzola than saganaki. I asked the server if we should wait to order our main dishes and she said she'd space it. There was NO spacing. They brought it all at once while we were eating the "saganaki". They brought my soup WITH my meal and just piled it on the table. The lemon chicken soup was so cold I had to ask the server if it was supposed to be served that way. She apologized and whisked it away before asking if I still wanted it. It was served back in the middle of the meal. The hummus was an embarrassment. I mean really shameful. I've had better from the grocery store. "Phoned it in" would be how I would describe it and I honestly can't believe it was made there. If it was, that chef should hang it up. We won't be back.

This is a good, not great Greek place. We enjoyed our meal and sitting outside. We both ordered the chicken souvlaki which came with lovely rice and the Horiatiki salad. I would have preferred lamb or beef souvlaki but they were not on the menu which was a disappointment to me. That said the flavor was good and had a nice sauce with it. The salad was very good except that they included a charred pepper that was very spicy- to me it didn't belong in the salad (and wasn't listed on the menu) so I just didn't eat it- I've never had a charred hot pepper in the salad in Greece or in the states. We shared a baklava which was ok. The waiter was very good and friendly and the rooftop was busy!

Recently met a friend for dinner here as I was in town staying right next door at the Holiday Inn Downtown. The restaurant has a great vibe and ambiance, classy but relaxed. The host & hostess were incredibly gracious and helpful. Got great service at the bar. When our table was ready, we were escorted up to the amazing rooftop deck. It was a beautiful, warm night and it was great looking out over the city. Service and food were excellent. We started with spanakopita and tzatziki with pita bread and fresh cucumber slices. Both were terrific. For our entree, we had the penne pasta with chicken. We were served ample portions of this delicious dish that we had to make ourselves stop eating. Definitely will be returning next time we are in town!

I recommend the second floor of Taverna Agora, choose a table near glass walls. Very tasty food, we ordered calamari, lamb chops and pasta with lamb. The Desert baklava was sweet and crispy.

Arrived for my husband’s birthday celebration, who is from Greece. The hostess was on the phone and never acknowledged us despite reservations. Additionally, I was treated rudely when I asked directions to the restrooms. When we were first seated in the pictures rooftop area, the seat was soaking wet. We were reseated but as I write this ; the only person who has approached us is another diner who said they have been waiting over 15 minutes without being acknowledged. My husband has patronized this restaurant for over a decade when it was located on Glenwood Ave near Crabtree Valley Mall, but with good alternatives such as Alexander’s in Garner

Over the years, business has taken me to Athens scores of times, and I long ago fell in love with both Greek wine and the Greek kitchen. My partner and I search out Greek restaurants all over the US, and heartily recommend this one to all who share our love of Greek cuisine. The setting is warm and comfortable; when we visited, there were a couple of large groups, couples on obvious dates, and individual diners. And this was at the height of the dinner hour. I should add that we parked on the street, which in the evening was free of charge. Taverna Agora has an extensive menu of traditional appetizers, so we decided to explore this element of the menu and forego a main course. We started with an excellent tzatziki, and then moved on to a superb saganaki flambeed at the table. Dolmades and keftedes came next. We strongly, strongly recommend the keftedes, although the dolmades were quite tasty. Spanakopita made for a light finish, enabling us to wolf down a traditional and delicious baklava at the end. We shared a bottle of retsina. I would have preferred something much more resinated (Kourtaki is my top choice), but my partner thought it was just right. With tip, the meal totaled out at a little over $100, but about $40 of this was for the wine. We thought that, in terms of both quality and quantity, our dinner was quite reasonable priced.

It's good but expensive. The flavor is there, though. For dinner, their Biftekia, which is kind of a bunless burger, and their Hirini Brizola, which is a tomahawk pork chop, are both excellent. Portions on the dinner items are just a little on the small side, especially for the price. The lunch menu is better in my opinion and a little more reasonably priced. For example, the meat on the lamb burger on the lunch menu is really outstanding (like the Biftekia). There are other Greek restaurants in the Carolinas that have a broader menu, including Taza on Falls of the Neuse, which is half the price but just as good as Taverna Agora. Zorba's in Columbia, South Carolina is better. The service at Taverna Agora is OK, but they're a little too comfortable.

We chose Taverna Agora for dinner because it had been listed as one of the top restaurants to eat outside. We were not disappointed. It is a great small Greek restaurant (“taverna”). You should make a reservation and the rooftop seating is first come first serve, so go early. The menu is full of authentic Greek appetizers and entrees. The rooftop is comfortable, due to the shade of the adjacent trees and grapes leaves and vines hanging from the pergola. The restaurant is very clean and follows all of the safety protocols. The service is good. Water and an additional carafe of water is served at your table. Great experience.

Oh my gosh! Everything was delicious!! We got the Greecian Grill and everything was fabulous! The rice and squash we're perfectly cooked, meat was perfectly seasoned, and the salad (honestly never thought that would be a highlight) was phenomenal. Our server (the awesome bartender) said it is cut to order and it tastes like it (so fresh). Our drinks (baklava old fashioned, gold rush and Greek lemonade) we're amazing plus Cayla made a drink with the Empress gin (Royal Hawaiian) we were talking about. Awesome experience and can't wait to dig into our baklava cheesecake. Yum!!!

Try the stuffed pork chop! New favorite family dinner experience - cool Greek cultural spin on things they already love. Fantastic multi-purpose (romantic, family, bar) rooftop dining! The food is shockingly good (and I don’t say that lightly) w/something unique for everyone - great lamb, fantastic chicken skewers, the grilled salmon. The stuffed pork chop is an experience everyone should try.

How can you be “out” of moussaka at a Greek style restaurant at 7:00 in the evening? Presentation of appetizers very average. In every Greek restaurant we have frequented here and in Greece, cucumbers are mixed in tzakiki, here slices next to a bland cream. Lamb tips and orzo lacked taste and meat over cooked. Disappointed.

It’s sad to see a one’s great Greek restaurant go downhill so fast, but on my visit on a busy Friday night, the food was very substandard. Try he saganaki was about half the size of most restaurants and it tasted more like deep fried fish than the way it supposed to taste From a texture standpoint. Lamb chops, now at $36, were ordered medium, but the insides had some very wrong parts. Maybe the answer is to avoid this place when it’s busy and go on a night where they can devote sufficient time in the kitchen. For the price you pay at this restaurant I expect much higher quality food.
