About
Ask any Italian-American what ‘gravy’ is, and they'll tell you it's the pasta sauce that their mothers and grandmothers cooked fresh every night. At Gravy Restaurant we take the same care, preparing our signature sauce every day using select tomatoes and locally grown herbs. The heart and soul poured into the preparation of traditional Italian-American dishes pairs with inspired modern twists and a focus on seasonal ingredients to define Gravy’s unique approach to this classic cuisine.

I used to love this place. Not anymore. May be it’s the inflation or lack of staff but it wasn’t as great an experience it used to be. They have started charging for bread knots and gravy. Portion sizes have reduced. Knots were cold/stale the...first time. Place was missing the usual warmth by a very long shot. The bald dude in flowery shirt needs to understand the difference in tone between when you are working at gas station to a restaurant. Also if I told you I will be sharing a dish, don’t just hand me over the an email extra plate. It supposed to be divided and served, especially when you are going to charge money for it. The food we ordered was generally OK except the Pinot tasted terrible and a side of fried chicken parm which seemed like refried old item.More

Interesting menu although not a long one. My first choice was unavailable, but that happens on a Sunday night. Food and bar items were good. Not the best-tasting Italian food in the area, but far better than the Italian chains. Service was pleasant and attentive....A relaxed and informal atmosphere although a bit noisy inside. Nice adaptation of old commercial space in downtown. Given the inflation in recent months, prices are about what you'd expect.More

A stop into Gravy was part of my ongoing search to seek out the best Gnocchi in Raleigh, although I am quite sure I would not put theirs in the top 4. There are some authentic Italian dishes that should just be kept simple, and...Gnocchi is one of them. Yes, Gnocchi vary in recipe and name across different regions and typically come dressed in various sauces. But I felt the Gnocchi sauce at gravy came with conflicting textures, the peppers and mushrooms mixed in the leek cream sauce just complicated what should be a simple Italian entree. The TAGLIATELLE BOLOGNESE was a better choice, just do yourself a favor and ask for a pasta spoon, oh! and do not wear a white shirt, they call it gravy for a reason. An extremely comfortable dining experience within this beautifully restored building offers plenty of seating unless they are booked for an event upstairs, reservations here are key! Cheers!More

Outstanding!!! The staff was great to work with from the very beginning. My first contact was with their event planner, Devan. She created an event that worked work with my desires as well as my budget. On my wedding day the staff went overboard to...make my day perfect. My guests loved the food as well as the ambience of the venue. I was beyond pleased with their service.More

I ordered Chicken Marsala. This dish should have lots of mushrooms and a wonderful marsala sauce. I had two small mushrooms and no sauce at all. To really complete this non-Italian dinner, it was served over wild rice with no pasta at all. I asked...the waitress and she said, "Oh I was told that it was over rice just before I brought it to you." She never came and asked if the pasta that it was to be served with could be replaced with a different pasta...she just brought it over rice. Other people at our table had to send their dishes back as they were not hot when they were served. There are a lot of really great Italian restaurants in Raleigh. Next time I will go to one of them. I will not return to Gravy!More

I visited Gravy with my family, party of 5 at 4 pm on a Saturday afternoon. The service wasn't super speedy but the food was excellent. I had the butternut squash and goat cheese ravioli and it had the perfect blend if flavors and not...overly salty, which is fairly rare at a lot of places. Everyone in my party was happy and they had chicken parm, lasagna and an eggplant dish. All really good. Not low prices but that is the norm in these days of shortages. The salad and bruschetta were also very good. I heartily recommend this place!More

Nice Italian food and good wines. What more is there? The atmosphere of the bar and restaurant is good too.

We went to this place after hearing decent reviews. To start off, CRAMPED! The tabled were really close together I could have eaten off of the table next to me. Our table was REALLY shaky and unlevel (I had to ask for it to be...fixed and ended up doing it myself). My beer was spilled on me not to mention there was only a selection of 4 beers. Ordered the Zuppa for a starter, COLD AND GRITTY, sent it back. Ordered the Chicken Parm. The chicken was ok but the sauce tasted like it was a spiced up canned sauce. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! We will not go back nor recommend it unless you want a good laugh.More

Really wanted to like this place. We ordered pick-up. Be aware that the portions are quite small - I should have ordered almost double. Also we waited 1/2 hour extra for our order. I know everyone is facing staffing challenges - but still.....

Enjoyed lunch at Gravy after the symphony. We asked to be seated outside and it worked perfectly for us. Our waiter, Missy (Missie) was top notch. She didn’t steer us wrong with her suggestions on wines, entrees and desserts. We found her to be attentive...and will definitely ask for her on our return next month. The eggplant pie was a delicious alternative as a non-pasta version of eggplant parmigiana. Looking forward to trying other options on your menu.More

I made a reservation for a Friday at 7:30, to celebrate the kick off of Parents' Weekend with my son. We arrived at 7:27 but our table was not ready ( I was told that the party occupying our future table was not done yet)....My son and I went to the bar as requested until the table was ready. At that point I checked my phone and saw that the restaurant had texted me at 7:22 to let me know my table was ready.. I think they gave it away because we did not answer that call right away. The bartender was nice, dropped a menu but then didn't come back for a drink order for at least 5 more minutes. My son's drink was delayed even longer. We were called to our table about 10 minutes later and the bruschetta was served shortly thereafter. But.. we did order dinner even before the bruschetta was served... and then waited, for at least 45 minutes. It was clear that a large party that had come in AFTER us was the priority, we literally watched at least a dozen plates march past our table while we continued to wait. The server took too long to ask if I wanted a second drink (because what else do you do when your food is delayed?!). We actually had to ask for the status of our food and were told, "soon, sorry." NO urgency in making things right, no urgency in apology, no comp.I have NO urgency in recommending Gravy. The food was good; service terrible.More

We came to this restaurant as this was recommended in TripAdvisor. Long story short we waited almost 40 mins for our food, they were very slow with the service and the restaurant was almost empty only 4 tables at the main room. The food was...ok. Maybe we had bad luck.More

My husband and I went to dinner at Gravy’s. Tables were spaced out and they had a very nice outdoor patio. We went for restaurant week. We had the risotto balls for appetizer, chicken parmigiana and for dessert we split tarimisu and cannoli. We ordered...a bottle of Chianti and was so surprised to see the wine was from a winery we stayed in Italy 4 yrs ago. Rona was a fantastic server and very professional. We will definitely return and strongly recommend to everyone. Thank you for a memorable evening.More

Gravy is incredible. The meatballs are the best ever. I recently learned that they offer take and bake for meat lasagna, veggie lasagna and chicken parm. I love heating up these amazing dishes at home and giving the impression that I actually made these gourmet...meals myself. We have been doing a lot of take out during the pandemic and Gravy has been in the regular rotation, much to the delight of my family. In fact, my typical process is getting take out from Siti, and take and bake from Gravy. My family is guaranteed two delicious meals in a row. And, I get to feel like a hero. The service is great. Their safety protocols are exceptional.More

I don't think this is the kind of place that would sell you a gallon of their wonderful sauce. But you could try calling them.
