07/07/22 - Our only complaint is they don't have tables for six, we had to sit at two tables of four. My daughter brought us here, we were here before. Great place, loved the place, loved the food, great staff. we were with family and...grand-kids. We got our daughter a gift card. To us the service was great, give a heads up to Cedric and Carol. The front staff were great too. We recommend this place, and will return again when we are in the Raleigh area. The fish sandwich was great, all the food was good. The only problem is the dripping of the A/C units, which someone should look into. Liked the decor, overall it was a great experience. Thank you.More

Prom night!!! Lots of well groomed high schoolers. Service was excellent -- server was excellent. Food was excellent and abundant. Dessert was unbelievable -- carrot cake to die for.

The prime rib sandwich is wonderful- cooked the way you want it, tender, and moist. I asked for mashed potatoes instead of French Fries and they were great also. Brought home a piece of carrot cake for later.

Immediately upon entering, we were greeted by a somber and unfriendly host. She was militant about us putting a mask on to walk 15 feet to the table, while everyone sitting and moving about the bar area were not wearing a virtue signaling device. We...immediately took them off as we moved away from her. Service was not what it used to be. We waited too long for our drinks as one server approached us and said although she wasn't our server, she could take our drink order. Five minutes later, our server showed up, repeated our drink order and said he was going to put the order in. Really? Thought that was already done by the first server. When the entrees were served, we had to ask the food server to remove the salad plates. The server never refilled our water glasses, or asked if we wanted another drink. He also never came back to ask how the meal was and if everything was correct. We had to ask what the dessert selections were. Menu is basic and they've dropped selections that elevated them above a standard corporate restaurant. My husband's and mom's meals were fine, his rib and her shrimp entrees, but mine, a New York steak was not good. The steak was too tough (bad cut) and it was bland.....no seasoning whatsoever. It was cooked to my request of medium. The steak was warm, not hot, as was the side accompanying mac and cheese. Clearly, my meal sat and waited for the others. The Alex salad was great, as usual. We left a 20% tip...only because it was Christmas Eve. The service didn't deserve anywhere near that. At most, it was 10% service. We used to go to Houston's all the time back home in Manhattan Beach, CA and were glad to find J. Alexander's when we moved here as they were the same as Houston's. But the last several year's, service and quality offerings have declined...they don't even offer the Crabcakes or Maui Ribeye, which were two of their best and "different" selections. Maybe it's management, maybe it's lowering your bar to who you see as your customers, but when you do that, expectations and customer base shifts, and you become a boring, mediocre corporate chain. We've heard many good things about J. Alexander's, so we decided to give it a try for a special celebration, and we were certainly not disappointed! We began with Alex's Salad, which we split and were very surprised by how large it was! The kitchen...split the salad for us, and brought us separate dressings - one Honey Mustard and one Thousand Island - undoubtedly some of the best salad dressings we've ever had! We then split the Slow Roasted Prime Rib (medium rare) with mashed potatoes. The Bone-in Prime Rib was perfectly cooked, with just the right amount of seasoning, and was arguably one of the best Prime Ribs we have ever had. It was quite large, and the au jus and horseradish sauce made it perfect! Our server, Breck, was so sweet, and he heard us talking about our special occasion, so he offered to bring us the complimentary chocolate cake. It was delicious, and again, we were surprised by its size! It was huge! We were actually pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed J. Alexander's. The decor is lovely, the staff was so gracious, and the food was excellent! Thank you so much! We will be back!More

It is getting more and more difficult these days to find a restaurant that not only has great food but offers great service due to the shortage of servers but J Alexander's was able to provide us both today. We eat out daily in Raleigh...and so we are very picky about both food and service. We ate there today for lunch and my husband made the comment that the chicken sandwich was the best he has had in Raleigh. I had a wonderful shrimp salad with a homemade Thousand Island dressing that was both yummy and very generous. We cannot wait to return and will be adding it now to our list of restaurants in our "circuit"!! I very rarely write reviews but when I find a restaurant that deserves recognition, I just have to take the time to let others knowMore

My husband had the Tuna Stack and I had the Shrimp Roll. Both were absolutely wonderful. Our entrees were not quite up to that level, however. We both had the Tilefish with lemon sauce. Tilefish itself is not a wildly flavorful fish, so having a...flavorful lemon sauce is an important addition- flavorful being the key word. There was very little if any lemon flavor in the sauce. The tilefish were cooked nicely - not dry at all. I had broccoli with the entree and it was overcooked. My husband had them roasted tomatoes as his side and they were nothing to write home about. Our server did a very good job, but with his mask on it was hard to understand him so when he introduced himself, we did not catch his name. I would like to return - maybe just stick with sushi or try other options.More

We didn't have reservations but they were able to accommodate us do the 1.5 hr drive time. We only waited approximately 20 mins & our table was ready. My hubby, brother, sis-in-law & myself enjoyed. The food was amazing as well as the service. Our...food came in a timely manner & the portions exceeded expectations. Try the California roll &/or shrimp for an appetizer and the carrot cake for dessert. You will not be disappointed.More

I love the food and the service here, but was especially surprised with our pickup order. So good! Most of the take out we’ve had recently at other places has just been so-so, but J Alexander’s really outdid themselves. Food was delicious! Thank you!

Excellent choice for a business lunch. It was very easy to hear everyone speak. You have space to have a business conversation. Staff was very professional and the food was good. Great for a business lunch. Good for families as well.

We’re a party of four celebrating a birthday on a Monday night and certainly didn’t expect Monday specials....but the filet medallions with mushrooms and roasted tomatoes were awesome....and cooked just right. We were pleasantly surprised at the number of people in the restaurant...so maybe the...number of Monday night customers support Monday night specials. The cheesecake is to die for!! As others have mentioned, the ambiance was just great, and Westin provided great service. We’ll definitely return again!More
