Food ok but really disorganised service (zero apologies received even when we told them, which would indicate it isn’t a one-off but a management / culture issue

We stayed at the Relais decMirepoix, an excellent hotel but it also has no 1 in restaurants. We searched the town and found three more of TripAdvisor’s top ten were closed! Maybe something to do with Wednesdays but I say it is poor coordination between restaurants,
Having returned to the main drag, the town square, which is a beautiful relic of close on a thousand years old, we honed in on Le Petit Bouchon for convenience having traipsed the town for its leading lights. Le Petit Bouchon excelled all expectations: Kate has become intolerant of gluten, (sadly) and France is not leading the way in becoming adapted to the difficulties in choice these people face. So many dishes are swimming in sauce made from - yes, wheat flour, so are not ‘ sans gluten’. This bistrot type restaurant was no exception although the waitress checked with the kitchen and as a team, they were very helpful.
In the end we had a lovely evening meal in a perfect setting. A glass each of Blanquette de Limoux followed by a 500ml Corbière ‘Fontsainte’ were superb wines from the region. The food was of an unimaginative pattern in this type of restaurant but very well cooked. I had pork medallions that melted and Kate had a ‘burger du chef’ sans le bun as it was not sans gluten. Both were very tasty, as were the desserts.

We had a very nice lunch here...salads, etc. Nothing special, but quite good, reasonably priced...and they have artisanal beer! Hard to beat unless you don't like eating lunch outside on a warm autumn day.

We changed for a night to this restaurant. Also this was not wat we expected. Order a nice wine. They are know for good burgers so we ordered 2 and as a appetizer i orders crevets. Then it happened, they came with 2 burgers , so i asked were are my crevets?? They went back with my burger and few minutes later the crevets came. Its was like chewinggum , much to lang cooked. So a give it back and i didn’t want my burger too. This was a good decision because the burger my wife got wat also a disappointment. The burger was dry and not juicy, small and the bread was at least 5 cm thick, so no tasted the burger only bread.Didn’t pay for the burger and the crevets

Yet again most of the menu was unavailable, including the 50cl red and rosé wines. For a restaurant surrounded by vines, this is unacceptable. Everything we asked for on the menu was ‘désolé’! What was available from the board was overpriced compared to other local restaurants. That’s the last time we give them ‘one more try’!

The restaurant looks nice and the waiters and waitresses are more than polite. But what you get on the plate is absolutely not good and far too expensive. A very lousy salad without any interest,

After a walk around the truly medieval town square, we settled on le Petit Bouchon for a menu fixe lunch at 15 euros a head washed down with a demi-litre of Rose followed by coffee was just the ticket, well cooked, presented and served. After our meal we wandered around this beautiful old town and its cathedral, a cool, wonderfully atmospheric haven of peace on a hot day.

We had booked a table and arrived with our two Westies, which have always been welcome in the past inside as well as out.
The waitress who ‘served’ us told us we would have to sit next to the door because of the dogs. The table was not laid. They were not very busy, but after 10 minutes we had still not had any service or attention at all- others who had arrived after us had had drinks orders at least. We left and went to La Louna just down the street who gave us a lovely welcome. During dinner we established that the diners next to us had also tried P’tit Bouchon first and left because of the service.
Hopefully a temporary staff problem but they need to do much better.

We live in Mirepoix. Always a little suspicious of this honey trap position in the sunniest corner of our square, we have tried it a couple of times and it has been ok. We went two weeks ago with our daughter and son in law and it appeared to have improved hugely. I had the burger Ariegeois which was full of succulent tender duck and was very good indeed. Come the visit of our son and family we were mightily disappointed. All the food was dry and boring and frankly my burger Ariegeois was just full of the most dry, tough and horrible duck I have ever eaten. My daugter in law extracted 2 hairs from her meal
We refused dessert and coffee and compained, in French, at the till but the guy absolutely blanked us, obviously used to fielding complaints, and ignoring them. What is going on in a restaurant that is so utterly inconsistent? Frankly I don't care because it's the last time they will have my money. Absolutely never again. Utter rubbish. Move on and let a proper chef have your site.

The food at this place was just fair, and the service was only average. It wasn’t just us but others around us who were equally frustrated!

We visited this restaurant for an evening meal as the menu looked reasonably priced & the chairs looked more comfortable than some in the Square. I would mention too that we were part of a wedding party who spent a lot of money on drinks! Thank goodness they didn’t also eat here.
We ordered our food, the starters were unusual and didn’t look particularly appetising but we are them. The problems started with the main course- we all ordered steak & 3 out of the 6 were inedible! They were tough & full of gristle. We complained to the waitress who said she would tell the chef. He came out & we found out later he was also the owner- & was very patronising. He didn’t want to take any criticism & there was no apology!
We said we would not be paying for 2 of the dishes. We asked for the bill & the waitress refused to bring it to us & said we had to go inside to pay. It took 3 of our table to sort it out as he worked it out incorrectly & was so rude. He obviously does not like the English & as we left he was making gestures using his middle fingers to us!! I have travelled all round Europe & eaten In hundreds of Restaurants but this is the worst Customer service I have ever experienced. He does not deserve to get any business if he treats Customers like this especially as there are so many other places to eat. Completely spoiled our evening. Do not go here, you have been warned!!

We saw this place as a traditional French restaurant and wanted to sample the food.
I so wish we hadn’t!
The beef was inedible! Full of grizzle and could not be chewed let alone swallowed!!
When we explained this to the staff they were rude about it. We said that we’d come to France to sample good food and the manager came out and said “oh like our food not good like England?!”
I mean how rude. He was so patronising.
They then tried to make us pay for it all and wouldn’t let us leave.
It took me asking him to eat my chewy fatty steak and my partner explaining that we are not paying for the meals, that he said the joke is over just leave and don’t come back!!
They even stuck their fingers up at us and said up yours!
I am in total shock!
I am not terribly fussy about what I eat but I wouldn’t give this rubbish to my dog!
DO NOT GO HERE!!
Unless you want to be sworn at and made to feel like you can’t complain about bad food.
The manager is in one of the photos. This is the man who needs to learn about customer service!
I’ve had to give one star in order for Trip Adviser to post this but not even worth that!

We had been to Le Petit Bouchon last year and had a similar experience. I did not leave a review at the time, since I realize every business has its bad days. Because it has good and ample seating, We gave it another chance this year and had lunch there. We are French-American, and speak perfectly French, so language was never an issue. My son is extremely allergic to dairy products (can be lethal), and we made it clear to the waiter who duly noted it, including that the meat should not be served with the sauce that contains butter. Like the previous year, his meat came with the sauce anyway... and we had to send it back. It came back, and we noticed another ingredient on the plate, and we inquired to learn there was milk in there too. We send it back for the second time. That was all after a very long wait where we had to inquire about our order to get anyone to pay attention. We were seated by noon when service opened, but got our meal by 12:45... We received no apologies for the long wait, had 3-4 different waiters/waitresses handling us, no one remembering us or coming to inquire about our well being. When i checked-out I asked if they'd make a gesture. They declined. Oh, and the food overall was average.

We had a wonderful meal here - great set menu and I thought the service was excellent. Five stars if there had been a better veggie option for our friends. I would definitely return.

I'm native from the region, and I was really badly surprised by the time we spent there considering the reviews i be seen.
The service really poor, non professional at all, long wait and lack of knowledge about dishes and drink.
The food is just ok, really disappointed by the burger, too dry and the good regional products are not use as they should.
Something to forget if you're passing by Mirepoix, I rather will recommend local institutions as the commerce, Les remparts or Les minotiers.
