The fact that 1890 was their start date, that they reside across from Citi Bank in Queens - I expected a great meal. While the pricing was more than reasonable for the city and the drinks honest, the steak was not up to what I...had hoped. A poor cut although tasty. The service was very friendly and the bar area quite busy but, as for fine dining, I can't say this is a good choice.More

Hubby and I met here for dinner. We thought why not try something closer to our neighborhood and different. This place is almost like a pub/bar than a restaurant but inside there’re two sections, dining and bar. We were seated at a table in the...bar section. The dining section was still empty but that section is huge. First, we ordered baked clams for appetizer. They came out great, tasty and not salty. Then Hubby ordered a veal sandwich with broccoli rabe. I tried the broccoli rabe and it was delicious. Note that they’re generous with fiber. The broccoli rabe was plenty in between the sandwich. I ordered the bronzini fish that served with some carrot and broccoli with mashed potato on the side. This one was really delicious and mouthwatering! I suggest you get this if you’re a fish lover like me. It didn’t disappoint me. They got the nicest taste for every dish. We had a good waiter from Italy and his name Fabio or Fabricio, something like that. We would return to try other dishes. Awesome first time experience!More

We visited and had the dining room to ourselves. Our handsome waiter (from Rome!) was attentive and provided excellent service. The wine was very reasonably priced below $9, and we had chicken parmesan that was both ample and perfectly cooked. It was completed by a...chocolate mousse that was not too sweet and plated beautifully. We will be back. Excellent meal.More

I last ate here ten years ago on a business lunch, so when my wife and I were walking nearby, and we wanted something comfortable and good, I remembered Brooks. On a Friday after 5 pm, the bar room was deafening and crowded, and I...was ready to leave, but patrons told me there was a dining room, too. We were the only ones there, but we were made to feel welcome right away. Didn't have the one Italian red wine on the menu, but the Pinot Noir was a good pour and only $7 because of Happy Hour. My wife loved her Grilled Chicken Alla Brooks sandwich with a side salad instead of fries ($11), and my Rigatoni Norma ($15 -- and all the pastas are $15 or less!) was very tasty, and home style. A side of Broccoli Rabe ($9) was large and garlicky -- as it should have been. We'll eat here again when we're in the neighborhood.More

On Saturday April 14th, 2018 Poppenhusen Institute conducted a “Wheels Across the Boroughs” bus trip to the Wykoff Farmhouse and Old Stone House Museums in Brooklyn. Fortunately, we were blessed with great weather. Also, the docents were very interesting and informative- making these trips well...worth it. Then, we headed to Brooks 1890 in Long Island City for lunch. Wow! Everything was perfect- the historic atmosphere, the friendly and attentive service and its abundance of delicious, affordable food (my salmon was cooked to perfection). Everyone in our group raved about their lunch experience. So- thank you Luca, one of the owners, for making our visit so enjoyable. I’m sure we will be back.More

This restaurant use to be one of the few when Citi moved its back office to Long Island City 30 plus years ago. It's next to the County Court House and offers a standard lunch menu. A good but average lunch place.
