About
Along with formal training in Europe, Chef Nicolene Barrow worked at the world-famous Le Gavroche Restaurant in London before setting-up Orangerie at Le Lude. Here classical French cuisine is presented with a contemporary twist; the purist, disciplined approach of the European masters combined with a hint of individual, modern creativity where what is on the plate is presented looking as good as it tastes. A seasonal menu offers the finest, freshest ingredients picked from the herb garden, found in the forests, meadows, mountains and seas of the Cape, resulting in a selection of dishes offered in an environment conducive to making permanent Franschhoek memories. This is a beautiful restaurant with nice views, especially at sunset. We dined here for lunch a couple of years ago and wanted to come back for dinner on our next trip. Because the evening was warm everyone dining the night sat outside to see...the sunset. I had the mussel special which had wonderful fresh mussels (I normally I would avoid mussels when traveling). The dish was so large I shared what I couldn’t finish with my husband, who loved the steak dinner. He ordered the ice cream dessert, which included a great rum raisin ice cream. We’d highly recommend this restaurant. Make sure you have reservations as it is quite popularMore

Still the best restaurants in Franschhoek. It gets better and better every year. Great size portions, none of the silly little bits where one mouthful and it's gone. The Duck was superb with beautiful fresh veg. Service brilliant.

High Tea at Orangerie in Franschhoek SA is a wonderful thing. The location is uniquely tucked behind a lawn bowling club and overlooking the vineyard of Le Lude. We sat in the garden in the shade of some lovely trees. Kim our server was extremely...pleasant and made our meal very memorable. The savoury bites were very tasty, the quiche and roast beef sublime. Then came the scones with cream and home made strawberry preserves. The flavour again cannot be beat! The sweet treats were numerous and fabulous! Salted caramel profiteroles, lambingtons, petit carrot cakes, raspberry macaron. All to die for! Don’t miss the opportunity to have tea here!More

We were attending the SAADA Fair in Franschhoek and decided to treat ourselves with a special lunch. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed. Our lunch booking was for 14h30, we arrived at about 14h40 as our GPS had taken us the wrong way. On arrival we...were advised that the kitchen closes at 15h00 and that we needed to order. We had anticipated a long lazy afternoon of food and wine. This wasn't the case and we felt like we were eating at a fast food restaurant who wanted us gone as soon as possible. We obviously couldn't have a starter as time wouldn't allow it, so had a main (lamb, which was delicious), and then left without dessert. Absolutely no ambiance in the restaurant at this time. Would suggest that they don't take lunch bookings at 14h30 as you feel very rushed. Won't be back.More

We had such a lovely lunch here we decided to come back again for dinner. Beautiful setting. Excellent service. Extremely good wine menu. Amazing, well presented food. Catered very well for me having Coeliac Disease. Their gluten free homemade bread was excellent.

Fabulous leisurely lunch in great location. A must visit when in Franschhoek outside overlooking the vines. The soufflés are to die for, in fact I had 2 one starter and one desert. Mains pretty good too, especially the mussels. Washed down with a glass of...their own bubbly each and a lovely chilled Sauvignon Blanc. What’s not too like? Staff and service efficient and pleasant too.More

Fantastic! Do not hesitate to reserve a table well in advance if in Franschhoek.. The setting is really beautiful, service was impeccable. We had the Brut Rose which was lovely, as we looked at the menu! For starters we had the mussels and duck confit...pasta, both were so good! The mussels were in an incredible light sauce, the duck confit rich and flavorful. Main, we had the Beef Tagliata which was also amazing…. Reminiscent of a Tuscan Fiorentina steak.. cooked med/rare, and so juicy. We had the Dolomite Cabernet Franc with the beef and it was a perfect combination. Shared a lovely crepe suzette for desert… Really was a perfect meal, amazing food and service. The value is incredible, it is a place not to miss.More

My husband and I have been coming to The Orangerie since the restaurant opened and it has long been our must visit restaurant on our annual trips to Franschhoek. We have had lunch there twice already this week and on each occasion the food, wine,...service and ambiance were all , as usual, five star. The gruyere soufflé and the wonderful mushroom tortellini are absolutely superb and in my view this restaurant is the best fine dining establishment in Franschhoek. My only regret is that it has become increasingly difficult to book a table for two as most of the available tables seem to be allocated to parties of four or more during the high season.More

Gorgeous setting with wonderful ambience and excellent service. However there is not one thing that is plant based on the menu, which seems a bit odd in this day and age, just leave the animals off the plate!

This is truly one of the best fine dining restaurants in Franschhoek - the views are spectacular and the service is excellent - manager Patrick was attentive but never intrusive - our waiter, Felicia was SIMPLY THE BEST - her product knowledge impressed - so...too was her insight of the surrounding wine estates - she is the reason that we will return soon - the food was of the best - wine by the glass though was FAR BELOW the average ml, infact very little wine per glass.More
