A wonderful meal, BUT the menu is the same as last year. How very arrogant of the chef. We pointed this out and were told “put it on trip advisor as he doesn’t believe us” so here it is. Won’t be going back despite a...first class meal and great front of house staff.More
We went to Grand Provence estate restaurant for lunch and were expecting good things given that the estate itself is one of the finest in the area. For a 1000R meal you expect a combination of good food, good service and a great ambiance. However...this restaurant is directly adjacent to the bistro with people walking in and sitting at tables not realising they were not in the bistro. It started well, the waiter talking us through the menu and understanding it well was impressive. However my wife's beef was not cooked properly. As the bistro got busier our service went down as staff seemed to give them priority. So getting attention for the complaint was impossible. Service just went downhill with staff not knowing what we had ordered. People also walked through the restaurant area to get to the gallery. If they are to provide what you expect for this price they need to delineate between the restaurant and bistro, with clear visible separation and ensure that staff are able to provide the attentive service for which we paid and the right ambience. Wish we had gone to the Bistro and not wasted money on something which was not delivered.More
Very disappointing! We have visited many wineries and know how divine South African cuisine usually is. The Bistro was a big disappointment. The oysters were served on melted ice with two small slices of lemon. The accompanying sparkling wine was warm and from a poor...quality. The following Chenin Blanc from the farm also not nicely chilled. The water glasses were dirty. I even don’t want to mention the quality of the food or the slow service. We won‘t never go back there and never recommend to our visitors from Europe. There are much better choices in Franschoek and surrounds.More
This is one of our favourite restaurants in Franschoek. We took family visiting from UK for dinner on 9 January. The lamb rack dish was billed as "sous vide". However it arrived very rare and had definitely not seen a water bath. It was tough...and inedible. We complained about the dish to our waitress Memory. She said she would tell the chef. She did offer an alternative but we had almost finished our dinner by the time it was noticed none of the lamb dish had been eaten. We were still charged in full for a main course that was not edible. It spoilt my husband's enjoyment of the evening. With a bill of more than 8000 Rand for 4 we thought this was disappointing. We will think twice before returning any time soon. The rest of the meal was lovely. The setting as ever is fabulous.More
Most of the items in the bistro menu out of stock. Warm day and wine was not adequately chilled. For such a highly rated estate our expectations had been set high. Menu is overpriced for the deliverables. I would skip for a smaller more intimate...experienceMore
Unfortunately, I was hoping for more when we booked to treat my parents. Arrived 5 min before our booking and felt like we were intruding. Tables weren’t set (including ours) and a few chairs were wet from sprinkler which we changed ourselves. We ordered a...few of the breakfast options and they were all totally underwhelming. Staff smoking area seemed to be around the back but unfortunately in view of the table. Can’t complain about the service from Mandy and setting was great but the rest was unfortunately very disappointing especially with so many breakfast options in the area. Not quite the treat I had planned for my parents.More
Our lunch did not match the beautiful ambience of the outside of the restaurant Main course arrived 90 minutes after ordering. We had to chase it up 3 times It arrived over sauced, and not hot… how can it be late and cold ??? The...everlasting comment was. “The kitchen is trying to catch up” Our comment. It was nt even busy… It’s about managing expectations. If you are under the kosh or under staffed - say so then we can make a valued decison to stay or go …Don’t take our money and deliver under standard everything Give the server his due. He knocked 25% off the food bill. Better that than paying full freight for a 2/5 experience Obviously won’t be rushing backMore
The venue was beautiful and worth visiting, but the picnic was very pricey and we expected much more from a culinary perspective from such a esteemed establishment. Content of basket was not up to standerd.
Bad service- 9 of us arrived for wine tasting. It was raining outside so we sat around the bar. And that’s about as good as it got. We waited 10 minutes without anyone even noticing we were there. We had to ask for the manager...before we got any acknowledgment. The staff where poorly dressed and the service was worse. The area behind the bar untidy with glass cases on the floor. The wine tasting was reasonable priced.More
Great ambience & lovely landscape with plenty of art sculptures. The food was great but service needs to be improved, staff looked lost & confused. Lots of wine selection.
On Sunday, 9 April, we celebrated my mother's 70th birthday at the Deli. It was one of the most beautiful days in Franschhoek. Stunning venue, good food, great vibe. Unfortunately, the following happened. We paid a R300 deposit when we booked online with Dineplan. The...bill came and my husband paid, but it wasn't until we got home that we realised the tip was not deducted from the total. Nothing about the deposit was mentioned. I sent an email the next day to explain our story and asked if they would please refund the deposit. They mailed us a new copy of the bill. We saw the total changed and at the bottom of the bill the R300 deposit was added to the waiter's tip. We checked the time on our receipt and the time on the bill. The waitress changed the bill just after we left and added the R300 to her tip without our permission. (The original bill was R1260 plus the R140 tip =R1400) The event manager still tells me it was deducted. Please be aware of this. Waiters probably try this trick with all the guests who pay deposits. This is absolutely unacceptable and very poor customer service. The last thing I wanted to do was to write a poor review. For me, it's not so much about the money but the way this issue has been dealt with. Surely there must be consequences for unethical behaviour.More
We planned our day carefully on the Franshouk green tram line. We were so pleased that we decided to stop here. We had breakfast of scones in a beautiful area. Some people chose oysters alongside their reading session. There were lovely sculptures in the gardens....A particular highlight was being taken from the tram station to the setting, through the vineyards on a tractor. There were two seated trailers attached to the tractor. Would highly recommend.More
We were part of the wine tram and with an hour schedule I can understand the pressure on for the severs.. Although saying this my partner ordered the nought tasting and i went for the hummus.. She was plated her treats and on to her...second tasting where I had litteraly nothing infront of me.. We did eventually ask our sever if he would just pour everything together once my plate came and that we were on a tight time schedule.. Other than the long wait the server was very knowledgeable about the wine and did provide some interesting details with regards to it's flavors.. Unfortunately I can't overlook the fact that I had nothing plated while my partner was moving on to the next bottle being poured..More
Booked lunch as part of Wine |Tram experience. Most enjoyable with friendly service - lovely oysters and wine followed by Mussels and Prawn salad. Lovely setting.
