Really delicious food! Nce french cousine That was so great. atmosphere was greatful ! I've already recommended it to my friends!
After a six year hiatus, it was a joy to return to Auberge d’Ill. We stayed at the Hotel des Berges on the property, which is a great way to do it, as we did last time. This wonderful place hasn’t missed a beat with...its now over half a century of multi-Michelin starred performance. The cuisine of Marc Haeberlin, following that of his father, is simply perfection. Amazing staff, beautiful setting, and superb menu among the amuses bouche and mignardises. Foie gras as good as it gets; great roasted Bresse chicken, incredibly tasty porcelet, and the classic French cheese cart. We enjoyed it with some glasses of local dry muscat and a delicious 2015 Santenay. Everyone was representative of the ultimate in French classic service tradition. Our Maitre D’ was terrific. I’m running out of superlatives….this is one of our top places to eat anywhere in the world. HIGHLY RECOMMEND….we look forward to returning! Merci beaucoup!More

We were taken to this restaurant by friends and the entire evening was excellent. The staff, the setting and most importantly the food is good.
This was our fourth visit spanning 40 years, so this place holds a lot of great memories for us. We felt fortunate to get in at lunchtime on a rainy Saturday due to a cancellation at the last minute. The setting is as beautiful as...ever. My wife and I ordered the set menus with wine pairing. We ordered different so we could try everything. First off the appetizers: I was expecting something interesting with the tuna tartare. Sadly ‘me too’ the same I can get anywhere for 1/4 the price. Same for the pate. The lamb chops were of poor quality….very fatty. And the sauce no nuance and very salty. On the plus side the salmon soufflé was awesome. Also the wine pairings were well done. I asked them to serve an Alsatian red with the meat dishes and they produced an excellent Pinot noir from Kirrenbourg. Serge head sommelier (of 5 I was told) was very charming and some of the younger staff wore smiles. Otherwise going through the motions. It was 10 years ago that we were here last. Either they’ve ‘gone corporate’ (Restaurants in Japan….Haeberlin branded riesling….) or it was just a bad 600 euro day for us,More
This time we got slightly disappointed. Let me explain. As always a very warm welcome, a great start with the Aperitif in the garden and into the Haeberlin menu. However, while the first starters were excellent, the Bretonic Hummer came in a heavy red wine...gravy. Red wine and fish is already weird, but at summer time not the best idea neither. Later we got the main course of veal which was accompanied by variations of peas. Those were simply tasteless at all. Sorry, but this should not happen on this level. Sometimes you can say it is classical and the usage of herbs and salt is chosen carefully, but this time there was nothing at all. Some tasteless fried pea-balls combined with some mashed peas. Both not tasting good (no herbs, spices, salt). The gravy of the meat and the meat itself were the only good parts of the dish. I do not understand how it can happen to a restaurant like Haeberlin. Have these pea-dishes been seasoned to taste? We do not think so. Since the pre-dessert and the dessert were excellent, this review ends up with a 4 out of five points in TripAdvisor. We are very sorry, but there are plenty of newcomers in Alsace which look pretty good and need to be visited, too. Important to be mentioned: the service is absolutely fantastic and far above and beyond any other service we know. Also the ambiance and the location itself is marvellous. We still can recommend, but hope on improvement.More
This was the highlight of the year from a culinary point of view. What an amazing setting, beautiful cosy interior, out of this world service and menu. Everything was perfect. Wine card like the bible of wines!! Definitely will try and go back and stay...for a night so i don’t have to drive home - just to try more wine and really enjoy the place for what it is. A little piece of heaven in Alsace!More
Best in the world is the highest compliment. To be honest I have five in this category and there are days when any one of them is #1. So they are all equal. Haeberlin belongs in this group and on my last trip was in...fact #1. Every single dimension here is superb: the setting, the room, the food, the welcome, the service, the wine list, the staff. The cooking is classic which the Michelin Guide no longer values, preferring to award stars these days for flash and what I call "Instagram food", overly designed and precious. In a rational world, Haeberlin would far surpass the standard of 3 stars. The last visit began with champagne in the garden overlooking the Ill river. Peaceful and beautiful. The menu and wines all selected while one relaxes as the river flows by. First course was dazzling: beef tartar, with oysters and caviar. Riveting in its perfection. This was followed by bar with a vin jaun morel sauce. The depth of flavor was sensational. The fish cooked perfectly. Next a long time favorite: lobster Prince Vadamir. This is lobster cooked until just translucent, a small bed of spinach and rich deep classic lobster sauce gratineed on top. Everything works together, the sauce amplifying the essence of the lobster. Following was pigeon wrapped in its skin with cabbage, foie gras and truffles served with a rich truffled stock. Again the cooking was absolutely spot on and this dish takes its place as the greatest in the world. It reminds one why classic French cooking has so much more to offer than the overly elaborate but at the end of the day less satisfying and less flavorful modern styles. Dessert a perfect rhubarb souflee. The service was brilliant. This is a happy restaurant. One more thing, the wine list is wonderful, extensive and well priced.More
Absolutely a must, when you are in the area. Traditional classic michelin-starred cuisine. Exceptional food and excellent service.
This lovely place offers food and wine at the very highest levels and the service is excellent, very friendly, attentive but not too much so, very professional. Nice selection of wines but strangely no win flights. Doesn't detract from the amazing experience in any way,...just an observation. We loved it and will definitely returnMore
