This gem of a restaurant is EXACTLY what one would hope to discover in a rural village in the Ariege. The layout is beautifully crafted, with a small, intimate floral courtyard, festooned with Irises, vines pear trees and delicate roses. Seating is well spaced yet close enough together to hear the ooohs and ahhhs of appreciation from fellow diners ! We chose the set menu at a extremely reasonable price of 19€. The starter follows an amuse bouche which tantalised taste buds - an exquisite tarte, followed by pork cheek marinated in a teriyaki type jus, light and tasty. It was served with pak choy and a medley of seasonal vegetables. (It is so rare in France now to actually be served with any vegetables). The rice was a risotto type and was beautifully cooked. The dessert was an extremely rich mouse-like chocolate square served with a delicate caramel sauce. The owner was knowledgeable about local wines and pared the local wines perfectly with the meal. The service was sublime and done with old-school style, ladies being served before the gents. This restaurant is one to remember and not to be missed. As a restauranteur myself I’m perhaps critical on occasions and have high expectations. Hand on heart I can honestly say I wish I could eat here every day!! Thank you to your team for coming together to produce this experience ´par excellence ´

We enjoyed a really delicious family meal at La Tomate du Jardin. Really fresh, local ingredients and delicious flavours. We had a children’s menu (€15), a €20 menu and 2 €40 menus. The children’s menu was such good value and an adult would have been very happy with it. We sat outside in the really lovely garden, which is a bit of a hidden gem and we spent about 2.5 hours enjoying the shade on a hot day.

The absolutely best restaurant in the entire region. Excellent food, contemporary French cooked with pride and a lot of attention to attractive presentation. Excellent wine selection and pairing options with the menus. Also very nice garden for outdoor seating. A must visit if you haven’t been there yet.

Travelling through the Pyrenees the GPS was making unusual choices. In this case a big detour forcing a gigantic U from Tarascon sur Ariege to Arreau going through small villages where the road passed midtown hence slowing down.It was well pass midday and noticed an unusual double towered XII century church and next to it a pretty shady garden with people having lunch. We parked by the side of the church and got a table in the garden. What a pleasant surprise. Sort of one of those things one sees in the movies but are likely rare . It was an excellent bistro with personnel which spoke French, English and Spanish very fluently. In true bistro style they had a menus selection in a blackboard and we chose the stewed baby goat that was one of the best we ever had, really finger licking good. The desserts were creative and the selection of cheeses of the region amazing. They served local wine by the glass and had an excellent beer. Overall and outstanding surprise lunch in charming environment at a great price. We were sorry to leave this idyllic scene to continue the road trip and for once thanked one of the many dumb choices of Tom Tom GPS.

Lucky for us to find the place late in the morning. We went for the menu du jour and it was all delicious and so creative. Perfect service and good price for the quality of the food, I strongly recommend.

This was recommended by family friends who live nearby. It was a good choice. We were made welcome by the very friendly owners, and the menu (including local delicacies) was explained to those of us whose French is not too good. There was a good choice, and the food was hot and tasty. The garden setting adds to the charm. An enjoyable evening out.

We stopped here on our way through the region. What a pleasant surprise! Quaint setting in the garden infringe of a villa. We ordered the lunch special which was excellent value. The food was fresh, all cooked to order and the wine by the glass was excellent. Service was good in both French and English. Restaurant was almost full on a week dAy Lunch. Would love to come back for dinner with a bit more time!

To eat in La Tomate du Jardin is a wonderful experience to be repeated time and again. Each course is prepared when ordered so do not go there if you are in a hurry. Fresh produce from their own garden and local suppliers. Fresh Shell fish and Fish beautifully prepared and delicious. Great choice of 3 course menu at €34 but also a formule on weekdays for €14. Very good selection of wine at reasonable prices and Lionel always on hand to help with the selection.

The first time we have eaten here, highly recommended by our daughter and her partner and didn't disappoint. We started the meal in the lovely garden and then moved inside, where there was a good buzz of conversation and no music or TV which was excellent. The food was marvellous, organic and locally sourced. Of special note was the magret of duck, tender and tasty and also the marvellous presentation of the dessert. The vegetarian options were equally interesting, high quality, and beautifully presented The service was excellent, attentive and the menu explained to us in English. We would recommend calling on the owner's skills for wine selection - the wine matched to the food was perfect and the white wine was one of the most interesting I have tasted. In comparison with the UK, 100 euros for two meals of high quality was very good value indeed. We hope to return when next visiting the area.

We were hoping to be given local dishes to give us a taste of the area. We had plenty of choice and the food was excellent and beautifully presented. The service was attentive and charming. The restaurant was packed, clearly a popular eating place.

A group of us had an excellent dinner here and all enjoyed it. It is typical of a family restaurant in a small French town. Busy, lively with everybody obviously enjoying themselves and the food which was very good. The waiter explained the various wines for people who were not sure what to choose.

We were staying just outside the village on a painting course and the group (12 of us) came here to eat. Our course host had shown us the menu earlier in the day and we'd pre-ordered to save time. Daumazan sur Arize is in the Ariege - one of the poorest departments in France and it isn't a well-known tourist destination so we were amazed that some of the staff spoke English. The food was delicious, imaginative, service was good and friendly and there was a great atmosphere. Having spent a week in August in Luz St Saveur in the Pyrenees where most restaurants and cafes were closed (in peak tourist season!) we were amazed.
