Had a REALLY GOOD crab sandwich, the best I’ve had! On lovely fresh sourdough. Sat outside on the pier. It was a busy weekend early evening, with a wedding party at the mussel house and loads of bikers . Service was quick and friendly. Unsure...whether the bar is dog friendly inside.More

If you visit the Beara, make sure you come here. We went for lunch, not sure what the opening times are, so you might want to call before you to (the internet says 11:30am -11:30 pm, but food hours may be different?). Super bar offering...the best seafood. Yesterday we had the Mussel's and Sourdough (the Mussel's had less than one nautical food mile in them, you could see the mussel bed from the pier). Today it's the open crab and open smoked salmon sandwiches. It's an intimate bar in a beautiful setting that just does the best simple, uncomplicated, fresh and flavoursome sea food. No doubt, when you go, Helen would be happy to share her mussels recipe with you - but suffice to say her mussels are some of the best, if not the best, we've ever had. The guiness was good too!More

Helen’s is an experience and one I would recommend to everyone. Firstly it is located in a harbour with a working mussel farm and fantastic views and there are plenty of benches to sit at outside and eat and take it all in. It is...a really a beautiful location. Next to the prices- unbelievable! I think the cheapest we have paid for a three course meal anywhere in the country and some of the cheapest pints and drinks in Ireland! Besides the prices the food is also really good- fish is melt in the mouth fresh, great hamburgers, chicken burgers! Not only is the food good the staff are also fabulous- extremely friendly and helpful. Helen herself is a lovely friendly and very welcoming woman. The place feels like a bit of home away from home there is great energy here. We stayed in an apartment off the back which was most comfortable we were delighted with it and again the price is reasonable. Breakfast is super- plenty of everything- you won’t leave hungry! It’s also fantastic to be able to relax by the harbour and be so near your accommodation if you stay. Helen’s is a gem on the Beara pennisula it’s off the beaten track and I would definitely recommend to anyone to go there it’s an experience!More

A real gem on Kenmare Bay. You can see the Mussel farm from the window. Enjoyed a locally sourced hamburger and the bartender Jake was wonderful and very knowledgeable of the area!

Stayed in Helen’s Bar in Kilmackillogue on the Beara Penninsula for 2 nights B & B. First night lovely meal on Pier in the most beautiful of locations. . 2nd night weather drove us indoors but great atmosphere inside. The seafood was generous and delicious....Accommodation is simple and inexpensive. Good breakfasts. My Australian friends judged this the most memorable of all the places they stayed in during an 8-day tour of the south of Ireland.More

Typical country pub in an isolated village on the Beara peninsula. Good beer and sometimes good food. We had salmon hat was a bit dry but the prawn cocktail entree was fabulous. Prices were excellent however and service great.

Great spot on a remote stretch of coast - the tables are on the quay in summer and in Autumn. It's all very serene and peaceful and the little pub does some top-rate seafood dishes in a down to earth fashion. The crab sandwiches are...overfilled and very fresh. Looking at other tables, the monkfish and haddock (?) goujons looked absolutely delicious. Don't expect slick service - it's a remote little Irish inn but we had one of the best, freshest and tastiest meals here in all Ireland ....and the Guinness is superb!More

The hottest September Sunday and we rocked up here … parked our VW van in the carpark and found a table on the pier. The place was going like a fair . Live music when we arrived and food served until about 9pm . The...food was super fresh and tasty. The staff work very hard on what was a shift from hell busy .More

Amazing food - open crab sandwich on soda bread was a highlight as were the very crispy golden chips! Perfect spot for a ping and lunch by the sea. Loved it.

This place was recommended to us and I saw the amazing reviews on TripAdvisor. We've been eating amazing food in Castletownbere all week so said we'd try this for a change - extremely disappointing- service dreadful and food was poor. Mussels had no seasoning or...even a bit of parsley. Chips with main were frozen and lukewarm, no dressing on salad. Husband queued for around 20 min to place order and get drinks. Wine not available by glass - served those toxic twist cap single serve bottles. The place was mobbed and no staff to serve drinks inside and the staff outside weren't allowed take drink orders. Scenery was amazing and weather beautiful. Only plus to the food was the price.More
