I don't often give a five-star review but I feel i have to because the flying Mango has made an extraordinary effort for us to get good food yet remain safe and to have their staff remain safe as well. I want to talk a...little bit about their pop-up concept so if you want to get food from the flying Mango you got to connect with them on their Facebook page and then get an email which gives you a weekly pop-up of some limited menu items you have to get your order in before a certain time on Friday and the longer you wait there is a chance that the item you want could run out. The one I participated in was before Thanksgiving and I got ribs and a bloody mary mix for drinks. What happens is you go to the order page which you can get a link from on Facebook or you can get sent an email and also has a link to the order page you put your order in and pay for it and then on Saturday you pick it up. They email you will pick up time usually in a 4-Hour span and a cell phone number to call or text when you arrive. it's pretty cool when you drive up they have a table set up you text them the number they come out and set your order on the table and you pick it up and go it's about as safe as I think you can get. Now to the food they did a great job on the ribs I like a dry rib and they have a wonderful side sauce which gives you a little bite. I also enjoyed my bloody mix. the thing is every week they have a little different items and usually their side dishes and also pies which they're really good The thing is you have to get your order in early or they'll run out, that's why I suggest getting on their email list in checking their Facebook page, but a real tip of the hat to flying Mango for providing a wonderful quality food in a really safe environment.More

The customer service at Flying Mango is unrivaled. We had the takeout ribs and the bourbon pecan pie. We could not be happier with the food or service. We are so glad to be supporting a local business during Covid. Thank you so much.

What a fantastic dinner we had: I chose the holy trinity of Southern style BBQ, i.e. pulled pork, ribs, and brisket - one better than the other! Furthermore, we were very well served. I personally also liked the "rough" interior and the overall laid back...atmosphere!More

We were in Des Moines with our college friends for a wedding and went to the Flying Mango for dinner. Mike, the owner was personable and fun. I ordered the Redneck Surf -N-Turf, and my husband ordered the Grilled Trigger Fish. Both were delicious! Even...the sides, red beans & rice and corn bread, were tasty. Since no one had ordered the brisket, Mike brought us a sample to try. Tender and flavorful. To top it off we had wonderful homemade blueberry pie (the lady who made it happened to be in the restaurant that night too). I highly recommend.More

Small cozy restaurant with a great menu and good customer service. Our food was fantastic and the waitress was very helpful. Gets packed on weekends, but it's worth the wait.

Just had a great meal here w/my wife. Place is very small & quaint...you pass by the "pit"/kitchen as you go into dining room. Found out they smoke their meats daily...and tasted like it! Wife had brisket...looked like 2 large cuts of meatloaf....and SO flavorful....I had the ribs...meat came right off the bone. Kudos to the "smoke chef"! Do wish they had tap beer tho....had 15-16 selections, but cans only. Same w/Coke & Sprite...cans only. Service great....chocolate cake for dessert was great...will absolutely be back when in town.....More

A great couple's restaurant. I love the bbq here and my wife has many other favourites to choose from. Having the owner there visiting with diner's is a big plus

The special was Prime Rib and it did not disappoint! Lots of unique side dishes. We were celebrating my mom's 88th birthday, and to our surprise, the owner had the entire restaurant wish her a 'Happy Birthday'! Now that is service!

We've eaten here twice (we live 4 hours away or it'd be more!) and first learned of it from Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives. The first time I ordered the special which was a platter of what Guy Fierri ordered when he was here. The second...time I also ordered the special which was smoked duck - everything we had was so delicious and full of flavor, but my favorite is actually the red beans & rice. It had flavor, and wasn't just hot and steeped in pepper like some places. The catfish is by far the best catfish we've ever had - cooked perfectly and tasty, and my husband LOVED the ribs he got. Get there early - we got there right when they opened and it filled up pretty fast - also they ran out of the special of the night before I even got my order (the duck). Great place to go whether you're on a date or taking the family out to dinner. Worth checking out!More

I’m sure considering how prevalent that request is that they would have gluten free options.

I have been there several times and don't remember anything but tables. Sitting in the back room is preferred.
