This place has wonderful food, but it seems like if you're not a "regular", they make you feel like you're not welcome!

The clam chowder is delicious. We have been getting the shrimp dinner as our complementary dinner. These shrimps are breaded perfectly and really good. Other favorites are the wall eyed fish , Dover sole, and Mediterranean sea bass. Cheesecake is delicious. New york style. Curbside...pickup is friendly and done very wellMore

Love the clam chowder. Creamy and full of clams. The shrimp dinner had delicious jumbo shrimp. Tasty swordfish. Twice baked potatoes are really good and vegetables are always well prepared. New York cheesecake is the best. Curbside service is timely and polite

The atmosphere is nautical in flavor, nicely decorated. The staff all wore masks and stayed within perscribed distances. Food was served professionally and in the appropriate time. The presentation of the food was great. I went for my Birthday and it was a great place...to go. Glad they were open for this event.More

Why did it take so long for us to discover Dover Straits? After all, they've been in business for more than 40 years. Maybe because it's located in Mundelein, Illinois, an hour's drive from our downtown Chicago home and longer in rush hour traffic. But...it's worth the angst. If you are a seafood lover or adhere to a more fish/less meat dining philosophy, Dover Straits is the place for you. When was the last time you went to a restaurant with no negative reviews? There are more seafood entrees on the menu than in most Florida restaurants. Located at 890 U.S. Highway 45, southeast of Route 83, in the North Shore suburb, Dover Straits is a long-running, nautically themed seafood restaurant with a full bar and live music on weekends. Open from 3 to 9 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 3 to 10 on Friday and Saturday and from noon to 8 on Sunday, it offers indoor dining with limited seating, outdoor dining in a heated tent and curbside pickup during the pandemic era. Fair warning: make reservations well in advance. We started with jumbo shrimp cocktail with tangy cocktail sauce, escargot in garlic butter and served with garlic bread and Caesar salad with romaine lettuce tossed with Caesar dressing, croutons and grilled chicken. For entrees, we couldn't resist imported Dover Sole broiled and served with amandine sauce and rice and Florida red snapper filet broiled Grecian style with baked potato and vegetables. Other fish on the menu included Atlantic salmon, Lake Superior whitefish, Alaskan halibut, Chilean sea bass, Icelandic cod, Canadian walleye, sea scallops and Alaska King crab legs. What? No grouper or Branzino? If you don't have a taste for seafood, fear not. The menu also offers steaks, chicken, ribs and pasta. For dessert, we shared large portions of key lime pie and flan, that delicious and creamy Mexican custard that you rarely see on menus. No wonder Dover Straits seems to please everyone.More

Very delicious seafood. Scallops were huge and delicious, with a cream sauce. Came with bread, soup, twice baked potato and nice serving of broccoli and cauliflower. Walleye fish was fresh and delicious also. Curbside pickup worked out well.

Dover Straits knows how to cook seafood! Kind and courteous staff plus the same owners since I was in high school 40 years ago :). Old fashion seafood restaurant with ropes and pilings plus perfectly cooked fish.

Came here for lunch with a large group. I had the sea bass. It was outstanding!! Those who ordered chicken or steak dishes were extremely satisfied, too. Portions were generous. Food was fresh. Service was exceptional. Desserts were delicious!! This was my first time here....I will definitely return!More

We picked Dover Straits from TripAdvisor and were really pleased that we did ! We had a thoroughly enjoyable dining experience. Missing was the racket and din that is present in many restaurants. In its place was a relaxing and sane environment of superb food...and service. I ordered the Dover sole and my wife ordered a salad. We were pleasantly surprised that the salad was prepared table-side and the blackened seafood appetizer that we had before the meal was excellent. All in all, dinner was excellent and we were glad that we chose to be there in time for the early bird specials.More

One of my favorite restaurants. Consistently wonderful throughout the years. We usually go for the early bird before 6:00 pm, because not only is it a great price, but I like the selection better. Courses include soup, salad off a salad boat on wheels, from...which you select what you want on the salad. Main dish includes side and price includes desert. Every course is excellent. I especially like the Orange Roughy wit an almond crust.More

No true dress code. It's a nice place - you don't need a jacket and tie, but I wouldn't show-up like I worked construction all day.

Suggest you call and ask - we are not aware one way or the other and again the last time we were there is making us not want to go back sadly yet for I presume some time way down the road.
