Friendly service & good, not great food for the price. The ribs were tender with a too-sweet sauce; rib-eye was perfectly cooked.

We were told to visit Southern Star Grill. Everything was fantastic as far as the food was concerned. The fried shrimp were great. The chicken teriyaki was wonderful and the service was superb.
My husband went to the men’s room and said it was filthy. We judge restaurants by the cleanliness of the restrooms. Please clean the restrooms. Not pleasing!

My wife & I shared ribs and catfish. The fish was lightly breaded w/o any fishy taste. Unfortunately, the ribs were cooked in an oven and slathered with barbecue sauce. The sauce overwhelmed any taste of the ribs. Our waitress was distracted by other college students, actually sitting down with some of them for a while. I also believe $18 for 10 baby back ribs is fairly expensive.

They have the best salads and their homemade dressings are the best. My ribeye was cooked perfect and delicious. They have a good variety of meals. Homemade desserts are worth the trip.

We've been living in the area for years and this is the first time I have gone here. I had a salad with blackened chicken and I can't remember what my husband had. We both loved our meals and found the salad extra good. If you don't want bacon bits tell them because the salad has plenty. We saw some of the other customer's steaks and will try those soon. A local place that is completely understated. The dining room was clean and roomy. The service was excellent. We recommend you give this one a try.

Looking for a local place while traveling through the area. Looked good from outside and parking lot full. I was very disappointed. I ordered the Friday special which was fried catfish, green beans, slaw, and potato salad. The slaw was ok but was warm like it had been sitting out. The beans were just heated canned green beans. The potato salad was bitter. The catfish strips were "chewy", not crispy like the grease was not hot enough. The chocolate cake for dessert was excellent. I wish the meal was the same. You know, the people weren't friendly either. Sometimes that can make up for other things. Might just keep driving next time.

Southern Star has the best salads. One of our favorites is the Southern Star salad with fried onions, fried chicken cut up, and honey mustard dressing. You can't go wrong eating anything here. Friendly, courteous service.

We stopped here on the way to the Georgia coast. A good break from fast food joints, Souther Star is a basic meat and veggies place. The blue plate special is a good choice - especially if they have the squash casserole! Dessert is included in the price, so save room!

Although the service a great and the food is good the interior is very dated and showing it's age. But, like I said, the food is very good. Good portion and price and the service is very friendly.

We stopped for lunch and each of us had the Blue Plate special. The portions were so big that we easily could have split the plate.

This the best place in McRae to get a good sit down meal. The menu has something for everyone. They are famous for their salads.

We could tell right away they do not invest in fixing the place up. They need a lot of cosmetic work. The waitress was very sweet but she was a little slow. The food was definitely worth the ride. I had prime rib and it was wonderful!! I took half of it home because I could not eat it all. My husband and son had new york strips which they liked very much. We will definitely go back and hopefully they will do some housekeeping before then.

We had a wonderful Southern cooked dinner tonight with along with a friend that use to work here back in 1996, we ordered mushrooms. .cheese cake and our meals. Wooo we are so stuffed thank god for carry home meals.

A few favorites: ribs are so tender they fall of the bone with a great flavor. ...salads are great...raspberry dressing is the best I have ever tasted.....loaded baked potato...fried mushrooms....these are a few of my favorites...good prices. Blue plate at lunch is awesome!
