During our 2-week stay in a Florida Keys RV Resort, we ate out only 5 times. Two of the 5 were at Marathon Grill an Ale House. The shrimp and scallops we superb. The sides were equally scrumptious.
The servers there do not hover above you when taking your order; they kneel down so that you are at eye level. This was as polite as it was unique. Be sure to get their custom sauce when you order seafood. This sauce raises a baked potato to a gourmet experience.
Be aware that during winter, happy hour starts and ends earlier than posted.
Another bonus . . . during happy hour you will have the option of two meals for the price of one!

arrived at 4 and found that they have a 4-6 happy hour. HUGE selection of beer on tap and many others bottled / cans. Happy Hour $5 selection was great. Had the Bang Bang Shrimp, Potstickers, Blackened Tuna Bites, all were awesome. Two large very fresh salads, beers, ladies had 2 drinks each, bill was just $108. Best value to food / selection we have found in the month being in the area. HIGHLY RECCOMEND!

Four vacationing adults came hungry for a late lunch. We had been eating so much seafood, and wanted burgers. We started with a large soft pretzel, that was buttery, salty perfection. It was served with grainy mustard and white queso, that was amazing. The burgers are served with slaw, small Lays chips, and the best pickles. You can’t substitute for fries. We ordered a side, thankfully, that were the best fries ever. Everyone loved the perfectly cooked cheeseburgers with Kaiser bun. One of us enjoyed the draft. The beer on tap was too hot for the rest of us, but the cans were cold. Brooklyn was a good server. We were all in a coma after.

We stopped at Marathon Grill and Ale House for lunch on a rainy day. When we walked in the place was no more than twenty percent full. There appeared to be only one server who told us to seat ourselves, which we did. After some wait we were given menus, and again after some wait we placed our orders (a grilled cheese sandwich for my wife and a pulled pork sandwich for me, nothing special). Then our real wait began. While we didn’t keep exact track, it was somewhere between thirty and forty-five minutes before our orders were eventually delivered. It was clear that the sole waitress was stretched to the limit having to cover the entire place. Maybe the kitchen was stretched, too. Anyway, while the food was pretty good,,we would never return just because of the extremely slow service.

I read some of these reviews before going in for the happy hour BOGO special. That’s why I’m writing this. All of the five star reviews were very encouraging. Imagine my surprise when I was served, quite possibly, the worst shrimp scampi I have ever eaten! It was served in a bowl so it took a few bites to find the half inch of butter in which the pasta was swimming. If there was white wine involved in this recipe, it was very old or very cheap because it left an awful after taste. The garlic must have come from a jar because it had no taste. When I asked if there was bread the waiter said no but I could order focaccia. This “focaccia” was actually white bread soaked in butter and covered in Parmesan. I doubt I’ll ever go back.

This is the first time that I have felt discrimination at the Florida keys for being Hispanic. I have lived in Miami since I was 8 years old and we have been coming to Marathon for years. For the couple of years now, we would stop at Marathon ALE house for their French onion Soup. So we came to eat today and the hostess wanted to seat us at a booth that seated 4, my husband asked her if we could sit at a regular table that also seated 4. The hostesses replied by saying no, that the regular tables were saved for larger parties. At the time my husband pointed out that the restaurant was empty and she said ok you can sit there. She turned around and walked into the kitchen, then comes out with a big heavy guy who stood by our tables, she tells us that we have to move to the bar area and that we can not sit at a regular table. The big heavy guy stood by our table with his arms crossed like trying to intimidate us. So at this point, I wasn't going to pay money to eat in this place. So I told my husband "let's go eat somewhere else", and just like that they let us walk out, no manager ever came to see us to ask us what was the issue, or why we were upset, nothing. I felt like they wanted to make ver uncomfortable for us to leave. I would have never imagen something of this nature would happen to us at this place..So, as long as I am coming to the keys , Marathon ALE House is dead to me. We left and went to eat at S.S. Wreck, where we were not discriminated and treated with great customer service and dignity. We even asked them to sit us at a different table and they said " no problem" . I may be Hispanic, but I am a U.S citizen and I pay my taxes every year and have been since I was 16 years of age.I deserve to be treated with respect and dignity

Pub food was standard pub food. Ate about half the French Dip. The beef was nicely shaved, but the cheese slice of the beef did not melt. The bun was a soggy large hot dog bun. The spicy cauliflower was quite nice, cauliflower nicely cooked and slightly firm. The Cobb salad was great.
Furniture quite run down. Booth cushions were in poor condition.
Hard to tell who was a server and who were the customers by looking around.
Karaoke was nice, music directed at the appropriate age group...customers were in aged 65 to 98 (yes, it was the customers 98th birthday).

We arrived later evening with 4 adults and 5 teenagers. The restaurant was not terribly busy, we were seated immediately. Our waitress took order in timely manner. Then... We found out after at least 30 minutes that 3 of the meals weren't available. We adjusted our order. Drinks came anywhere between 45 minutes and an hour after ordering. We had ordered appetizers, salads and soups. Food randomly showed up at table for each person over the course of the next hour. Salads and soups were mixed in there (not sure what would happen be difficult about getting soup and salad out first). 1 order came out completely wrong, but we kept it due to long wait for food. 2 orders were 75 minute wait (one was a burger, the other was soup and salad). The waitress was not checking on our table, and didn't seem to care that food was arriving at all different times. The food was very good, but service was the worst we have ever received. Our bill was missing many of the items, but seemed fair due to the poor service. Would not recommend eating here.

First visit, but it will definitely not be our last. Great drink, food and service and an all-around great experience. Our server, Mackenzie, was attentive and made great recommendations. We had a blackened tuna appetizer- cooked perfectly rare and served with a delicious balsamic. I had coconut shrimp and my husband had barbecued ribs. Both were delicious! The space is so pleasant and clean! A great find in Marathon. Don’t let the lack of a water view stop you-you won’t be disappointed.

Been here 3 times so far while staying in a local marina. As with many Marathon eateries, this place is nothing to look at inside or out. Have had the early bird special with my daughter each time - BOGO. Have had the steak and scallops combo twice. First time was mouthwatering. Second time average minus (steak was very grizzled which should have been quite visible to the chef before cooking it. Also had a chicken dish which was very good. So far, worth repeating.

Happy hour appetizers were good had onion rings they were great and the pot stickers were good . Dinner we ordered the chicken pot pie it was awful the crust was way to thick and the inside was very very dry. The store bought pot pies are alot better.

When we walked in the server/ hostess was rather rude. Saying they will not be serving food for 45 mins. Ok. So the kitchen is backed up. Once we got seated we expected it to be a long time. No big deal. The server greeted us took our appetizer order. Appetizers were on point! Amazing! 30 minutes later finally took our dinner order. Dinner was umm yeah just ok. I ordered a crab cake, which stated it was homemade it clearly wasn’t.
As I went to the restroom you can clearly tell the kitchen was not clean. When it comes to the tip… I always tip 20 to 25%, we were not told about a gratuity which if fine, but not telling about it makes it pretty bad. Also.. then coming to the table and making a deal about it with out anyone saying anything is pretty sad.

This place was awful!
Not even close to any Ale House I have ever been. No atmosphere.
We had the pulled pork plate and the pineapple barbecue pork sandwich. The pulled pork plate was tough and crusty pieces rather than juicy pulled pork. The sandwich was mostly small pieces of pineapple with a few little pieces of pork. The slaw was mostly mayonnaise and the chips were from a generic bag.
The waitress was pleasant and did a good job but the food was way below par. Would not recommend.

Plenty of parking. Friendly service. Food is usually pretty good. Unfortunately our $80 biil first arrived at about $120, which is substantial in my world , and happened last year also . Check your bill.
