We had dinner the other day. My wife had their excellent softshell crabs, and I had a salad and their fried clam strips. Now usually clam strips are heavily breaded in the Howard Johnson's mode, but these were lightly breaded with a crispy breading that...was unusual and DELICIOUS! Worth the trip just to taste those!More
From the moment Katherine and Izzy smiled a warm greeting at the maitre de stand, the Oyster House was top notch in service, presentation and quality. The oyster menu changes daily, and for those who don’t appreciate the raw bar variety, the classic oyster chowder...had five cooked oysters in a traditional Eastern Shore broth, similar to New England clam chowder. There are Oysters Rockefeller, Fried Oysters, and even a Virginia Fried Oyster Dinner. Crabs, clams, shrimp, lobster, mussels, caviar, crab cakes, along with many fish selections from Maine to Georgia round out a varied seafood menu. There’s even something for those with fish aversions; a burger, ribeye, salads, and a cheeseboard, Mac and cheese and a wide range of vegetable sides. The alcohol side of the menu is robust as well. One domestic and mostly European wine selections are unique; the Meinklang Mulatschak is the featured orange wine and definitely worth trying. Beer on the cask and drafts, domestic and foreign, are also available. Desserts include delicious key lime pie. The veteran bartender Jamie is a multitasking gem and provides locals and visitors with exemplary service and jovial banter. On Jamie’s days off, it takes three others to do his job. Karin is quite a friendly, attentive professional server, and she shared that the delicious unusual flavored Hopkins Ice Cream on the menu is local. No worries. Chocolate banana walnut covers multiple food groups! , Tshirts, hats snd glasses are for sale, and they are a great souvenir of your trip to Rehoboth and memories of the Oyster House. No reservations are taken, and both the bar area and dining room fill fast. It’s definitely the best place at the beach by far.More
We were told of this little gem from a local we met at a bar while on our visit. It did not disappoint! The food is delicious and the drink menu is creative. They even serve a Greek white wine that will not disappoint. We...sat at the bar and enjoyed many different varieties of Oysters. The only downfall is you must arrive by 4PM the day you want to eat there and stand in line to get in as they do not take advance reservations. It is well worth it though.More
So many restaurants in beach communities specialize in fried food; this restaurant is the alternative! And what an alternative: innovative preparations of fresh fish, oysters, and crustaceans complemented by a good selection of wines and beers. So good we kept coming back.
The selection of raw oysters was out standing. i honestly can't remember ever having such good ones. The servers wine recommendation was also spot on. We followed with the soft shell crab and lobster roll. Definitely a must try in Rehobeth.
We only stopped by here once during our weekly long stay but it was an amazing experience. We sat outside but luckily it was during the week and there were not lots of pedestrians. We loved everything that we ordered which were: the oh-so-fresh oysters,...the to-die-for crispy scallop, tuna tartare, yellow fish crudo, fried Virginia oyster dinner and the lobster roll. Everything was so fresh and so delicious.More
