I had a great meal here recently. This place has nice atmosphere and friendly staff. I tried the shepherds pie which was both delicious and shockingly large. I’ll probably be back in the future to try more off the menu. It’s a place worth going...if you are anywhere in the area.More

Quaint town, stopped in for lunch...my friend and i split the monstrous shepherds pie and there was still some left to take home. It was delicious, not spicy and real mashed potatoes and loaded with great tasting beef....highly recommend. Best i have ever had ..also...had large order of great sweet potatoe fries.More

What a lovely conclusion to our stroll through historic New Castle, Delaware. I'm a sucker for early American cuisine and ambiance. My friend goes weak-kneed over an interesting and plentiful selection of beer. Stopping here was a no brainer. The décor was exactly what I...hoped for. The friendly, costumed and helpful host and waitress started us off nicely. Our delicious meals arrived on large plates suggestive of pewter. The food absolutely exceeded our expectations. My delicious crab cakes, mashed potatoes and vegetable medley were seasoned to perfection .I would not have changed a thing. My friend's pot roast immediately brought a happy smile to his face. Jessop's ice cream offerings are made at at a historic farm creamery. My peach and his maple walnut brought this dining experience to a very satisfactory end.More

While staying at Miller-Dunham B&B we drove up to New Castle with reservations for Jessop’s. Nice colonial atmosphere, decor, and period dress for servers. Quite a selection of beers, mostly bottled and some draft. Delicious prime rib and turkey dinners. Street parking because town was...quiet due to COVID. Reasonable prices.More

Step back into the 18th century as you enter this tavern. The staff are dressed in period attire and the menu features authentic dishes from groups that settled in the area many ,many years ago. Lots of ales, comfort foods, and homemade ice cream. No...phone service in this establishment, so plan on having good old conversation with your dining partner(s).More

It's just fun to go here. It's set up to feel like an actual tavern from 18th century. They have modern food, but they have a section of the menu for historic food as well. Never fear, the historic food is awesome! We had the...chicken pot pie, and it was excellent. We also had streamed mussels, and maybe not quite as good as the best in France, but really really good. The broth was so good we dipped the bread in it and ate it, then asked if they had more bread. When they brought us rolls, we ate that with the sauce too, but in fact the rolls were superb on their own! We ended with bread pudding and lingonberry ice cream, both were really good as well. So everything we had was excellent, and the decor and ambiance just made it extra special. Kind of like eating at a Renaissance Faire, only with great food, and less expensive.More

This restaurant was suggested by a friend and we had a wonderful experience. We visited on a weekday for lunch. My husband had the shepherd's pie. It was very good and so large a portion that he couldn't eat it all and took the leftovers...home. I had the chicken baked potpie which was also very good. Would like to visit here again and try something else on the menu. The restaurant is very small with not a lot of seating. At busy times you may want to make reservations.More

We went here for lunch on a Monday holiday when most of the other restaurants in the area were closed. The place filled up really quickly, and the service was friendly but spread a bit thin, so I might not recommend it for a speedy...meal. The beer menu here is super extensive. We all enjoyed our food--the specials were delicious. I will say I got the potato wedges and ended up jealous of my husband's fries. And I wish I had saved room for their ice creams that sounded awesome. We'd totally go here again.More

Love this place and always good! I tried Nora Lee’s down the street, and after waiting almost 30 minutes for service when they weren’t busy, I left and went to my trusted favorite, Jessop’s.

When Jessup's is good, it's very good but sometimes it's very disappointing. Every time I've gotten takeout one or more items I've requested have been missing. A couple days ago I ordered the special: open-faced prime rib sandwich (medium well) with roasted peppers and blue...cheese as topping, sweet potato fries, mashed potatoes, gravy and peach crumble a la mode. I asked if they would put the blue cheese on the side, the gravy on the side, the ice cream in a separate container and give me 2 caramel dipping sauces instead of one.I asked the person at the front to please check to make sure everything was included and the blue cheese was missing as was the ice cream. Either the mashed potatoes or the gravy was missing, too. When I got home and opened the container with the entree, I discovered the prime rib was well done and there was no bread, so missed the point of being an open faced sandwich. I called to let the manager know and it somehow became my fault because I asked for so many changes to the way my food normally would come and that I should have checked my order before I left with it. I said we had checked it and that's why I was able to get some of the missing items before I left. I just hadn't thought I needed to have a sandwich checked to make sure it was a sandwich. I thought she would at least apologize and let her people know about the problems with the order. She just asked, "What do I want her to do for me now?" She'd give me the missing piece of bread if I want to come down and get it.More
