I lived in Oaxaca for several years, I am completely familiar with its gastronomy. Casa Oaxaca serves authentic food from Oaxaca. The restaurant is quaint, and the service is excellent. I have taken family and friends to eat there, and they were always happy with...the food. I recommend it to anyone who wishes to eat Mexican food other than tacos and burritos. Try anything with mole negro, tasajo(cured beef), tamales, tlayudas, or any other typical food from Oaxaca.More

I have been coming here for the last six years with my family. My mother, who is very picky about food, loves this place. We have gotten to know the wait staff over the years. They are nice and helpful people. Also, this place has...Mexican and Mexican-American customers,, which is a good sign. These customers bring their families, another good sign. People who think Mexican food is only about burritos and enchiladas should come here. #1 Their Moles are excellent. You can taste the different varieties of this dish. #2 Tlayudas are like Oaxacan pizzas made with masa or the corn meal dough #3 Camarones a la Diabla are my mother's favorite dish #4 tried the flambeed plantains for dessertMore

I have been going here for years, and I am never disappointed. I lived in Oaxaca several years, and the food at this restaurant is authentic, and excellent. It is very clean, and has excellent service. I like the ambience, also. It is small and...intimate. On weekends, it’s busy with Mexican families. They also have music sometimes. Try the tasajo, the tamales, and anything with black mole. I highly recommend it.More

I tried to create a new listing for El Mestizo without success. Casa Oaxaca is under the same owner according to our waitress who had no idea as to why the change of name. The Oaxacan food was excellent and generous. I had the somewhat...sweet almond mole on chicken and liked it much better than the more common mole negro. We got some of the latter on our tostada chips while we waited for our main items.More

I had the molcajete. It was lovely. My friends had the camarones ajo and camarones flambe. Service was fairly quick and there was live music.

It's was 4:30 pm on a Saturday and we had just finished watching Bayless's Mexico One Plate at a Time TV show that had featured Qaxacan food from Mexico. So we decided to search to see if there was a restaurant close to us in...Central Orange County. We found one in Santa Ana and boy we were glad we did. If you like a small family run sit down neighborhood restaurant and want to try something new then Casa Oaxaca is the place for you. We explained we were new Oaxacan food and the restaurant so the waitress explained what we might like to try portion sizes and the menu has enough pictures so you can see what you are ordering. Chips arrived with an interesting mole sauce . We started with a rice and chicken soup $ 4 - small was enough to share for 2 people, For mains - these are more than enough to fill you up. Tlayuda Mixta $10 it is a large fried flour tortilla topped td w/all meat: oaxacan sausage, tasajo, cecina, black beans and cheese and avacado . Tipico Oaxaqueno $10 ( thin grilled steak, sliced marinated pork meat in a chili paste and 2 chicken enchiladas. served with rice and beans . We didn't order dessert but sinceit was our first time they brought us coconut nieve di leche similar to a sorbet beautifully decorated on the plate as well. The flavors will different and tasty form the standard Mexican fare even in the small family restaurants we normally frequent. We will be adding casa oaxaca to our mexican food rotation, Don't let the area or initial look of the building scare you off its nice inside and we never felt uncomfortable. extra parking in the alley behind the restaurant.More
