Very good and very popular with locals and travelers. Sometimes packed, especially for lunch crowds.

So good as always! We got there about half an hour before closing. They were able to seat us and serve us fairly quickly! Everything is so good.

I crave Din Tai Fung. The dishes are excellent every time. The staff friendly and helpful. It’s my go-to each time we head to CA.

Their reservations system allows people to book a month in advance. People seem to fill in all the time slots as soon as available and then never show up. They must come up with something better. Once finally seated, their food and service is outstanding,...but is it really worth the wait if you can't get a reservation? For me, it's not.More

CON: I still give this place 5 stars, but we can start with what I’d personally like to see improve. The wait time is long, on a Wednesday afternoon we waited 2 hours to be seated for a party of two. Then again I understand...this is a popular spot, they seemed short staff (as the rest of the country right now due to labor shortage), and the establishment simply isn’t large enough to accommodate to the large crowds who enter the plaza. So although the wait time was long, I was not bothered, because having came here once before, I know the food is good, the service provided is excellent for their given conditions. PRO: for starters, every employee here seems to be well trained in proper etiquette for their positions. Not only that but they are all so helpful, and considerate. I truly felt respected by the workers here, as a person, and guest. Our server helped us figure out the menu, options, and how to eat the foods we ordered. It was so fun, and I felt so included in learning a different cultures form of dining etiquette. She made to sure to recommend wonderful ways to enjoy our food as well. The service support was also very helpful in recommending and making sure our table was always accommodated at all times. The food was excellent! This is my second time coming here, and I’m just glad I tried different things, their buns are wonderful, I personally could not stop savoring the chocolate dessert bun. The food here is always warm, and they’ll even ask you such questions as to which good items I’d like to enjoy first, so that every food item is fresh to our table. I will be coming back here when I get the chance, and despite the wait, this place has my loyalty.More

This is a restaurant for people that care way too much about how wonderful perfectly made dumplings are. If you do not care, you will not understand why people rave about this place. I really enjoy xiao long bao and I have gone to places...around the country to try them. I have read about Din Tai Fung and how they approach the "art" of making dumplings. I have had this place on my list to try whenever I got back to the West coast. We got in the walk in line before opening at 10:30 am, put our names in and then wandered the mall for an hour plus. We ordered crab and pork XLB - they were wonderful. Tender as anything with a wonderfully thin dumpling shell and not chewy at all. The soup was tasty especially with the vinegar, soy, and ginger. The spicy wontons came next. They too were delicate and wonderful, although I am a pepperhead and would have liked more heat. The potstickers came out and were a beautiful combination of thin and crispy. The soups were excellent with tender noodles and the hot and sour was some of the best I have ever had. Two of the desserts we ordered were OK - the red bean paste sticky rice and the taro buns. They were decent, but not up to par with the rest of the meal. The dessert that was over the top and trumped everything else was the chocolate filled xiao long bao. Imagine the inside of a lava cake but in a little tender dumpling package. It was unbelievable.More

A lot of my friends have been hyping this place up so we went and tried it. Its was good but not great. We went early and were able to get a table without waiting. Service was good, food was OK. It wasn't out of...this world like some people make it out to be. Glad I tried it but I wouldn't wait long for a table to eat here. Food was just par. Tried a lot of things on the menu. The BBQ Ribs were the best thing on it. Soup Dumplings and Fried Rice were average and the Buns were sub par.More

There were 6 in our party and we ordered a lot of food. My son recommended the place and it did not disappoint. We ordered a variety of dumplings, garlic string beans, shrimp fried rice, shrimp fried noodles, potstickers and buns. The food kept coming...and we ate it all and had a little to take home as well. We visited during midweek in the afternoon and we did not have a reservation. We waited about 25 minutes for our table. The staff was pleasant and efficient. We will return whenever we are on the West coast.More

My wife & I had lunch at Din Tai Fung & it was one of the best experiences I have ever had. This was our first visit and the service was awesome. Everyone was very pleasant & very helpful. Jennie was our server & she...was the best, very patient as she answered all of our questions with a smile & explained everything in detail. Jennie helped us with our order, making recommendations that were really awesome. Everything we ordered was so delicious. We ordered the Pork Xian Long Bao, pork soup dumpling which was made famous by this restaurant. Pork dumpling steamed to make a soup within the dumpling. This was very tasty & fantastic. Our next item was the Shrimp & Pork Spicy Wonton, another dish made famous by this restaurant. A boiled dumpling with a spicy red sauce poured over. Another excellent dish. We also ordered the Sautéed String Beans, sautéed & cooked with garlic, which may have been the best dish we ordered. I couldn't top eating this. Lastly, Shrimp Fried Noodles. This dish was good and we ate it all, but didn't compare with the other dishes we ordered. Everything was just fantastic & we ate it all. I know we'll be back & we'll try new dishes. I can't wait. Be prepared to wait a long time. We arrived at 1:30 P.M., expecting to miss the lunch crowd, but we ended up waiting 1 hour to be seated. Quite a line still at 2:30 when we were seated.More

I have been to many restaurants in 19 different countries including Ding Tai Fung in Daan District, Taipei and Taipei 101. This is the WORST! Who would ever wait for 2 hours for dinner? Even if I check in after the wait, they asked me...to wait for another 20 minutes. Even worse, they had plenty of open tables, but their terrible business practice is that they wanted people to see that they have a long line outside.....I will never return to this place. So shouldn't everyone! Stay safe! P.S. All of the good ratings might have been written by themselves!More

I've been to 2 Din Tai Fung's- one in Shanghai and this one in Costa Mesa. Both are good, but my favorite is easily this one in Costa Mesa. The food is delicious and a work of art. We like all of the dumplings, especially...the soup dumplings. Also the cucumbers. There's a reason it can be hard to get a table here sometimes- it's really good!More

Pros: - the best dumplings and Xiao Long Bao I've had - fast and attentive service (once you've made it in...see cons) - transparency on how food is prepared as the kitchen is visible due to it being displayed behind a big glass wall -...staff at check-in is aware of the popularity of the restaurant and handles impatient people well, someone tried to cut in line but they got ignored despite clearly having been noticed by the staff and they attended to us Cons: - long wait times (2.5h this time) but they will text you 15 minutes before seating you so you are free to roam around the mall - weird way of tracking customers who are waiting to be seated. We checked in and were given a menu while we waited to be seated. A couple minutes later I get another text that our table was about to be given away due to "no show". I walked up to the very same staff who just checked me in minutes prior and they wanted to know who the 2nd person of my party was. I pointed to my girlfriend (not sure why this even matters) and they asked if she changed her clothing because they don't "recognize" her. I explained she changed into something warmer and offered them to have her change back temporarily to "prove" that we are the party who checked in (again, why does this even matter). I suggest to management to have customers be called by their name as it is listed on the menu when you check in and then their party gets seated no matter what clothes they are wearing at the time. - can get noisy as they frequently have large groups living it upMore

Great place to get dumplings and soup dumplings. We had the cucumber salad which was great and a variety of dumplings you really can’t go wrong, only issue was it’s not spicy enough and they really don’t offer anything that is spicy.

Service was very good. No complaints there. However, we had heard several times how good the food was. Started with sticky pork ribs. Tough, sugary and mainly bone. Had 5 types of Dim Sum, ok, filling was sparse and 2 had little flavor at all....Dessert was the hot chocolate bun. Good but again, mainly bun and undercooked. I'm comparing this food to world renowned Dim Sum restaurants in Hong Kong and the San Gabriel Valley of California. Not only are these restaurants cheaper but you're not hungry when you walk out. For the cost, Din Tai Fung should have been top shelf.More

There are great vegetable dishes like the green beans. I am not aware of what other gluten free choices they have.
