We have not expected a dinner on a casual location we would be still talking about weeks after! ( we still are…)
Where to begin?!?! First of all I was not made feeling like a freak when I requested gluten-free options. I was offered almost everything on the menu in a gluten-free version!
My cod came in a presentation any fancy restaurant could have been proud of. The portion was generous, so much so that I had no room left for dessert, and I pretty much always can squeeze in something sweet after a great meal.
The best birthday surprise was to be having an extremely fancy meal both quality and presentation- wise, while the prices were absolutely under the expectations. If we were charged three or 4 times that of the birthday meal in a Dubai restaurant, we would not have bat an eyelid!
Thank you so much for making my day so special and being so kind!

We stumbled across this beautifully decorated street food market place right on the corner before the bridge on our way back from ice climbing. We are so happy we stopped free car parking behind and lots of choice but we are so happy that we came to this restaurant we wanted something more local. But this was a treat I ordered the fillet steak which was perfectly cooked and seasoned and alot more then I thought. I'm glad I got the smaller portion the soup was full of wild style mushrooms Ans really creamy. The value was great too around £30 per head including starter and drinks.

Due to COVID a lot of restaurants are not open at lunch time. The hotel across the street suggested I try the new food court across the street where I found a fine dining eatery amid the pizza, taco, and similar fast food type restaurants. Ambiance was lacking but all other aspects of a fine dining experience were present....good/friendly service, beautiful food presentation, and delicious food. I had the special of the day which was Arctic trout. I assume due to the lack of ambiance, the prices here are lower than the stand-alone fine dining restaurants. Highly recommend that folks try this place.

Neat concept of a fine dining foodcourt style market. We were intrigued by many options but so glad we chose this place. Greeted with a smile, the person at the counter was pleased to go into detail on the menu items and answer our questions. Short menu, with gf, and vegetarian options. They were ok skipping the bread on our veal and fried chicken sandwiches, and made them plates instead. There are many options for beverages, both non alcoholic and cocktails, beer, wine. I ordered the veal and it was the best I've ever had! They sous vide the tender cuts before finishing on the grill. It came with bearnaise but was flavourful and juicy without it. Accompanied by tender crisp potatoes and slow cooked onions. My friend ordered the fried chicken and received 2 perfectly crispy thighs with julienned fries and side of homemade ketchup. We agreed that both meals were a delight to the senses. We watched as they were made and you can tell these folks love what they do. Highly recommended.

We were a group of 12 people and had 2 meals delivered per day. Samuelsson managed to surprise us again and again with delicate and special meals, that are creative and healthy. The whole group was very delighted throughtout the whole week. They also offer vegan options that are no cutoff.

The food here is absolutely delicious. As a chef I could appreciate the pairings of flavours along with the freshness of the ingredients. We had the lamb skewers as well as the fish & chips and both were exceptional.
My wife and I loved it so much we took a detour back through Selfoss on our way back to Reykjavik. The customer service was also amazing as when we returned they were closed, but had a single private booking to service & since we had come especially for them they also cooked for us.

My husband and I happened upon this restaurant following a visit to the Secret Lagoon after reading some very favorable reviews. They did not disappoint. We both agreed it was by far the best meal we had eaten thus far in Iceland! Not only is it delicious but the presentation was beautiful. My husband had the veal ribeye steak and it was cooked perfectly. The Bearnaise sauce was the ideal complement to the tender cut of meat. I had the wild mushroom soup with side salad. The variety of mushrooms was impressive and the creamy delicious soup was light with just the right touch of cognac. Even the grilled bread was stellar. Our meal finished with the chocolate bites which were rich and fudgy, just delicious. The portions were very generous, staff was very pleasant and helpful. It was the perfect repast after our relaxing soak on our trip back to our hotel in Keflavik. I highly recommend this hidden treasure!

Fantastic food, great presentation, great beverages, and a large wine selection. If you are looking for a delicious hot meal in Selfoss definitely check this place out. Great staff and service and the owner was very welcoming and accommodating for any requests. I got a Veal steak that was perfectly cooked and my gf got the Mushroom Soup and truffle fries (pictured).

I ordered the steak sandwich based on the reviews. It was drowned in sauce, it was not steak (it was pork), and about 75% of the meat was just strips of fat (see pictures). The truffle oil on the fries was so overwhelming that I could only eat a few.
My husband had the chicken skewers and the were 4 out of 5 though - wish I had ordered those.

Hello Kelly, thank you for bringing this to our attention.
The first thing I want to address is that the steak sandwich is made with slow-cooked and grilled veal ribeye as it says on the menu, I would attach a screenshot of the menu, but TripAdvisor doesn't allow it in management responses. It is absolutely not pork, and we do not handle pork in our kitchen. Veal is a young cow, and its meat of it is still where light in color, almost white, simular to the color of pork.
The veal ribeye, like any ribeye steak, has generous amounts of fat and collagen, making the meat super juicy when in the correct proportions to the meat. We make a point of watching out for correct porpotions on it for every serving, and I am very sorry that our work procedure failed yesterday on your plate and you ended up with a steak that had too much fat.
The truffle oil is a balancing act like anything that has to do with our food, some times it is dull and some times it is super potent. Again, I am sorry that it was overdone.
This is our very first 1 star review in two years of operation, I am normaly not the one to make excuses for underperforming as that rearly happens but I feel I must put things in perspective. We had a situation yesterday that we have been anticipateding for a while, our head chef who was supposed to be on the shift had to leave to go to the hostipital because his wife was giving birth and admittently that did leave us in a poor situation with chefs that have not revived full training.
We will do our very best to make sure this does not happen again, our team and I will have a quality standart meeting and this, along with other things, will be discussed .
Again, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

On a trip to Iceland, my husband and I (plus our 4 travel friends) ate here after a long day of exploring. We sat at the bar and not only enjoyed spectacular food, but also a welcoming environment. Our waitress was ver friendly and knowledgeable about the food and beverages. I eat gluten free and she was able to go into detail about my meal options. From our seats we were able to watch the kitchen staff prepare food, which was a great time. One of the chefs came out after our dinner and spoke with us and even let us try some fresh herbs that were delivered.

We stumbled across the food hall where this restaurant is sited, and there are several nice looking options. We decided to go here as it seemed to have some authentic Icelandic options and because the lady taking orders (owner?) was so friendly and helpful
My wife had beautifully cooked lamb, I had a really nice fish dish ( says stew on menu but more like a pie)
Would highly recommend

Samuelsson Matbar is located within the food hall in central Selfoss. We were there with a large party, including kids who just wanted burgers or pizza (the horror). I had read about Samuelsson Matbar and was eager to try it. I was not disappointed. The Glaced Cod was fresh and beautifully prepared. You definitely won't go wrong here.

Unfortunately, culinary not what is hoped for: Ribeye steak completely fried (instead of medium rare), starter (soup) and main course came at the same time and beer without carbonation and foam. But then paid for it in pairs about 130 € - you expect a bit of quality. Unfortunately a culinary disappointing last Iceland evening.

This delightful restaurant is tucked inside an icelandic food court! Unlike many food courts that I'm used to in the US, this one is clean peaceful and has some great restaurants with fresh food!! This specific restaurant caught our eye because it has a separate vegan menu with lots of options (including dessert)! We were warmly greeted by Maja who assured us that the vegan options were scruptious and helped us make our selections. My husband and I enjoyed a cream of mushroom soup with grilled sourdough, truffle fries and a delicious nutloaf plate. Followed by a molten lava chocolate cake with vegan caramel sauce and ice cream.
This was the perfect meal at the end of rainy day in iceland 🇮🇸 looking for waterfalls!
