Have time to kill at an airport ?, I wish everywhere had a restaurant as good as this
Bordering on 1 star Michelan standard food , actually better than some I have eaten at. Staff are polite and charming , the dinner menu was excellent, and served to us 30 minutes before dinner menu available , though we were advised we would have to wait 10 minutes for the duck , we did , and it was worth it . I had the signature dish , including Venison , boerswors , beef fillet , lamb chop and ox liver that was better than the best calves liver I have ever eaten . 2 lovely deserts to finish
You can also eat outside ( or have your coffee and a cigarette)
Loved this place , will certainly eat here again if I am travelling via Johannesburg

While staying at the Intercontinental on two(2) recent occasions, total of six(6) days I thoroughly enjoyed breakfast each day plus two(2) lunches. At breakfast there were freshly cut up, individual fruits, absolutely delicious; each fruit beautifully presented on a different plate, with the exception of mulberries and raspberries in together. It was possible to make a bowl of mixed fruit but I much preferred to enjoy the taste of each. There were also whole fruits like bananas and apples available. Many other dishes were displayed, or included on the a la carte menu such as the scrambled egg I enjoyed. The lunches I had were likewise, generous serves and excellent meals, complemented by professional, cheerful and obliging staff. Great to have a restaurant functioning properly 24 hours/day, so convenient for an airport/business hotel.

I stayed at the Intercontinental Hotel at Tambo Airport in February 2020 without knowing ahead of time about Quills Restaurant. It was a wonderful surprise to me. I had traveled in South Africa for two weeks and the dining experience at Quills was among the finest I had while in country.
For evening dinner, I had the Crocodile appetizer (it was spectacular) and the Ostrich Loin with broccoli and mashed potatoes. It was all delectable.
The next morning, I had the hot breakfast (in my case, an omelette) and cold buffet, which was delicious. I had the pleasure of being served by Bash -- as he said, "My name means that I help make your dining experience a party." Bash was an excellent server with a wonderful personality. He made me feel welcome and appreciated and has a combination of training, experience, and demeanor that will delight any guest. Ask for him if you visit this restaurant.
Thanks, Quill and Bash, for helping to make the end of my visit to South Africa such a blessing.

We were stopping at IC hotel at Jo’Burg airport, before an early flight so grabbed a meal here and was pleasantly surprised on the quality for an aeroport hotel.
We enjoyed the soup of the day, then the curry and pasta carbonara which were both v good.
There was also a decent wine list and selection of international beers all at reasonable prices.

We had such great service at Quills...the Salmon was perfect and the butternut sauce served with it was amazing! My partner enjoyed the succulent Lamb Chops . Lydia, our waitress was on point...we got there hungry and in a rush and she delivered everything right on time!
Will definitely be back on my next trip!

We had a lovely dining experience at Quills after a very long day of travel. The food was good (beetroot and citrus salad with goat cheese was refreshing and very tasty, as were the tiger prawns, fresh pastry and the mixed berry pie) and the service we received from Cello was exceptional. He made us feel welcome and cared for during our brief stay.

This is my third time to stay at the Intercontinental Hotel and most of my meals are at Quills Restaurant. Their menu includes local South African dishes as well as international cuisine. The food is consistently good. I especially appreciate the kind and attentive staff. Bash waited on my table several times and was especially kind and attentive. I was here over the Christmas weekend and was pleased to receive a "Christmas Cracker" complete with a "Kings Crown" that I wore during my meal.

The review is primarily for dinner but we also had a breakfast the following morning of our stay at the hotel. Dinner was booked for us by our tour organizer since they knew how quickly the restaurant books up given the location. Many travelers are staying close to the airport and for a fine dining experience so close there is plenty of demand. There were numerous dishes including game dishes and steaks on offer. There is enough diversity without sacrificing quality. The wine list was almost overwhelming but the staff are there to help navigate if you're unfamiliar with the ones on offer. The cocktails and other beverages are also diverse and high quality so you have to try to be disappointed. Dessert options were also excellent and we enjoyed sharing to try out more than one.
Regarding breakfast, there was a buffet or a la carte option. We opted for a la carte but it was a bit slow given the demand and if you're on a tight schedule consider opting for the buffet. What we had was delicious (SA Benedict and SA Omelet).

While staying at the InterContinental Hotel I visited Quills every night. The food was so excellent and unique. Chef Sihle even made a unique meal for me, 3 courses all made with beets. I had tried the beet risotto from the menu and let him I enjoyed it so much, he then offered to make me the special meal. Chef Sihle has such talent and experience for a younger chef. All staff were professional and extremely helpful. Tshepang is a excellent bartender and very friendly. Will recommend when visiting Johannesburg airport.

We had a lovely breakfast at Quills. It was included with our room rate and there was a large cold buffet and a choice of warm items. I enjoyed my eggs Florentine and my son got waffles with caramelized banana. Our waiter Bash was very personable and made sure that we had everything we needed. All in all a great start to the day!

I eagerly stay at the Intercontinental OR Tambo any time I have a layover in South Africa. You won't beat the convenience or sleep quality! And you also won't have a better meal...
I always look forward to dining at Quills whenever I stay at the hotel. There are always so many familiar people and I've enjoyed being waited on by Prince, Khumo, Pinkie, Cello, and Simon. The team at the host stand are always excellent and willing to accommodate.
After being on a long flight, dining on the Quills patio is one of my favorite things - to be outside and breathe fresh air while dining al fresco.
One of my favorite dishes on the menu is the prawns. They are large, perfectly grilled, and delicious with the peri-peri and lemon butter sauces. I love the wedges and the roasted veg and a small side of fresh chilies to enjoy alongside this dish. Another favorite is the chicken bacon mushroom pasta - its light and lovely in its sauce on the cream.
Breakfast is also delicious and I'm happy to report the buffet is finally back and full of delicious fruit and pastries. I love the eggs made to order as well as the roasted mushrooms, tomato, and potato rosti on the standard breakfast plate.
Enjoy a relaxing delicious meal with a great team at Quills!

From the moment we walked into Quills restaurant, we were enveloped in an ambiance of sophistication and warmth. The delightful setting perfectly matched the culinary excellence we were about to experience.
Simon, our server, truly stood out. His humor and genuine kindness were evident throughout our meal, elevating our experience to a level reminiscent of Michelin-starred service one might expect in New York City. Every detail was attended to, and his recommendations were spot-on.
Beyond Simon's exceptional service, the food itself was a testament to the chef's prowess, delighting our taste buds with every bite.
One can't overlook the convenience either - its proximity to the airport makes it an easy choice for both travelers and locals alike.
In sum, if you're contemplating a visit to Quills, do yourself a favor and go. And if you're lucky enough to have Simon as your server, you're in for a treat. Trust me on this – you won't regret it!

We eat at Quills a few times a year due to our traveling to and from Johannesburg. It’s BEAUTIFUL. The hotel staff, including the restaurant staff goes above and beyond.
We’ve never had a bad experience, or even one that’s disappointing.
Last night Simon was our waiter and he was excellent. He was kind, funny and prompt. We look forward to having Simon again when we’re back next month.

I enjoyed my time at the restaurant. It was clean, the food was good, and the service was excellent. Although it was a typical hotel restaurant, it was one of the better ones I have been too. The food was freshly made. Some items on the menu were more "a la carte" when they could have come as a complete meal. Everything was tasty though. It is also conveniently located near the airport (within walking distance), and was MUCH better than eating in the airport right after arriving on a plane. I am happy I booked a reservation to eat here before heading to our hotel for the night. I would return if in J-burg!

We stayed twice at the Intercon during our recent visit to South Africa and ate 2 dinners and 2 breakfasts in Quills. The staff is friendly and the food excellent. COVID precautions are followed. Highly reccomended if you are staying at the hotel
