We discovered this "authentic" French bakery near the service apartment where we were staying. It is located in a nice, leafy suburb near the French Concession.
My husband had the almond croissant and espresso, while I had a plain croissant and a latte. The croissants and coffee were very good.
If only we'd discovered it sooner as it was our last day in Shanghai...

The coffee is very good and the pastries and baguettes are top class, not just for China but for the world. The owners (at least in 2014-2015) were Chinese but spoke English and French. They were clearly French-trained in pastry making and the presentation and quality of baguettes was exceptional. It was a haven 3 minutes from my home in the French Concession.

Pain Chaud is located 8 walking minutes from Shaanxi South Road Station.
The small french bakery offers a variety of small cakes, breads and drinks.
I have come twice here to try several desserts and as german I have a sweet-tooth; cakes need to be delicious and delightful.
Pain Chaud is somehow meeting those standards, not with every product sold but we all got different taste and different preferences.
The small cheesecake was very delicious and nearly as perfect as it can be.
What Pain Chaud cannot do is the base of the cake; in both tried cakes it had been to hard.
They offering you a fork but yet you just couldn't cut the cake well with it.
The small cream-strawberry cake meets the same conditions: very delightful, sweet and delicious but the crust is also hard.
If you don't take care you might end of accidentally throwing your cake away by trying to cut it into eatable pieces.
The Croissants are delicious and as much as a croissants could be.
If you happen to be around, go and have a visit!
The stuff is kind and welcomes you with a bright smile.
After 8:00 PM all fresh products will be sold with a 30% discount.
What's left to say: because we are having different opinions and tastes, the hard crust / base might not be something to complain for others.
As I think that Pain Chaud is a place you might enjoy I'm giving it 5/5 points.

I made several visits to a newer, larger location at the corner of Jianguo and Jiashan Roads (only about a mile from the location listed in this review). The coffee was excellent, the service was good, and though the pastry selection is limited, everything was very good. This location has a clean, contemporary look whereas the Yongkang Road unit is cozy with a more traditional appearance.

No matter where you are in the world, there is nothing like pastries, bread and coffee from a French-style bakery to start the day. So to find one so good in Shanghai on our first morning was fantastic. The cakes looked delicieux, the pastries were fantastique and the bread was parfait. The coffee complimented it excellently too.
Want a little taste of Paris on the streets of Shanghai? Then definitely come here.

The quality of their products is simply amazing (better than many shops back in Europe).
Great place for morning breakfast, working on your computer, meetings around coffee or just buying to go and bringing bread and desserts home for dinner !

A chain that is growing across Shanghai, Pain Chaud delivers a consistent offering. Specialties include French bread and pastries, variety of coffee and teas, along with a small selection of sandwiches and salads.
The food is prepared fresh with a great scent when ever visiting or even nearby.

So surprised to find such great coffee and french pastries in Shanghai. After 10 days in the city we found our expectations were just really off. There are many places to find great French pastries but PC is certainly one of the best.

If you dropped by at Yong Kang Lu (永康路), you may have a coffee here. The pastries here are not bad but not as good as I thought.

We stopped by after seeing this bakery in the afternoon for a nice treat! We had focaccia and croissants which were delightful! There were a few tables which were already filled so we took our snacks to go. Definitely worth seeking out if you’re in need of real bread!

We went here for breakfast every morning. They have very tasty sorts of bread which they cut for you if you wish and eat there. The coffee latte is also very good.
The place is not so big but very cozy and they have a great staff.
