Reinterpreting American dining The 1515 West, Chophouse & Bar combines the aesthetics of a movie set in Old Shanghai with the décor of a classic American bar and grill. The restaurant's generous portions of beef from cattle reared in Australia will delight meat lovers. The Tasting Bar offers oysters and other fresh seafood from around the world. A wine cellar featuring top new world red wine and a selection of white wine, champagne, vermouth and sherry ensures that Sommelier Jasper Sun stays busy. The New-York-style Classic Bar offers views of the piazza and the former home of Chairman Mao. It features a selection of classic and unique spirits. Here, cocktails are created personally by the bar manager and mixologist. Fresh bread, artisan cheese and cut-to-order charcuterie are available for takeaway.

I love the 1515 West Chophouse & Bar. Not only have I eaten the best steaks in my life there, I also enjoy their lunch menus. The service is always top notch and Sky, who has been my waiter on several occasions, has a great attitude and attention to detail.
Probably the 2nd best restaurant in Shanghai in my experience (only beaten by the 3* Ultraviolet).

My girlfriend and I visited this restaurant for the first time today. The food was nice, especially the salmon appetizer and the Wagyu burger. Because of the pandemic, the restaurant only allowed well-done for the wagyu. However, the beef is still juicy and delicious. My girlfriend tried the sirloin, which was also great. Fiona was our waitress, who not only knew her food well, but also had an unbelievable sense of humor. It’s a guaranteed worthy experience to dine in here.

A refined dining space. A warm eclectic mixture of wood, glass, and exceptional food. Superb service. The menu had a variety of items should one not want beef. Wine menu suits dining menu. Our meal was completed to perfection. We will re-visit in the near future.

We decided to celebrate a special occasion at this restaurant.
Service: Very attentive and good service, but lacked details. For example, we should have been told about things that the server didn't tell us. The salad we chose came with a huge bread bowl. If we knew that we would have chosen a vegetable for a side dish. The steak was very fatty. Should have asked how lean we wanted it. Also, the black pepper sauce is a side sauce. The steak was not pre-marinated with the black peppercorns and sauce. When selecting this sauce, this should have been told. This changes the expectations. Considering the price, this would have changed the experience and quality of the food, as well.
Food: Menu looks expensive and for what it is, it really is expensive if you compare it to similar establishments outside of China; however, the amount of food is good. Considering they are charging a couple of hundred rmb for a starter....The steak was too fatty, but the taste was good.
The staff should have mentioned about the tax and service fee that is added to the bill. As this restaurant is a hotel run restaurant there is a 10% service fee and 6% VAT. In most regular restaurants it's included and this considerably adds to the price.
Overall, it is not as good as expected and not worth the price. Would not be my first choice to return to and would not recommend.

Been celebrating two of my birthdays here. Great steaks, friendly service with good information, and VERY generous portions! We were offered 3 flavored salts today, with chopped lemon peel/chili/flowered pepper and they go perfectly with the beef. I recommend everyone to try out the place for fun, gourmet-seeking nights.

This is our absolutely FAVOURITE and ALWAYS GO-TO place in Shanghai!
We pretty much celebrated every one of our significant milestones here until we no longer live in Shanghai, which is very unfortunate cos we miss 1515 dearly!
This is the place where my husband and I first met and fell in love. Haha he even met my dad here the first time as well. We used to come here multiple days per week during happy hour. The drinks are amazing, so are the appetizers! It’s so cozy and lovely to be able to sit down on a nice booth with drink and a view!
Another reason that we keep coming there is because of the top-notch service! We were able to meet Merlin Ma(马良) who served us most of the time back then. He is incredibly professional, kind, helpful, and sweet! He always made sure that we were having a good time and he is very knowledgeable about the drinks and everything. My husband and I really like him and trust him, and we hoped to see him every time we were there:)

Beautiful spot, amazing service. The cocktails are great too. However, we came for the food. And that was quite disappointing. The steak was so so, it was not even warm when delivered. The asparagus side dish has a weird taste, the Cesar salad had no flavor. Unfortunately they charge a high premium for a low quality experience.

Excellent oyster starter, bread, drinks and service. However the reason for coming, the main course, was a great disappointment. Not cooked to specification. Meat quality did not even meet average. Pepper sauce was poor. "Hand cut chips" were poor and quite forgettable. They cannot provide English mustard.
Price was high, so I will not be visiting again.

This has been the place for celebrating our birthdays or anniversaries. Today we visited again for our daughters 18 years birthday dinner. It was a disappointment, the quality of the steaks is not the same as before. The service is good but unfortunately the dishes didn’t meet our previous expectations. Have to find a new place for the coming celebrations.

True we arrived late, but the place was rather empty, the waiters where propmtly with us, but messed up a bit the orders. The sizes of the dishes where certainly not american standards

We had a bad experience with Tsuru the japanese restaurant downstairs and came to 1515 with a mix of expectations and trepidation
Due to “covid”, they don’t serve oysters and the dover sole
For starters, we had the:
- lobster bisque - watery and lacked flavour
- shrimp cocktail - ok
- crab cake - ok
- escargot - ok
For mains:
- roast chicken - fatty
- steak - good, a tad dry

The thing we love about Shanghai is the number of top tier restaurants that we can eat in as a family (we have two well behaved tweenage kids). Our preference is to arrive as soon as the restaurant opens so we are away before it gets busy. We therefore booked for my birthday at the Chophouse and were looking forward to a great time and an aperitif in the bar as recommended by Michelin.
No chance. We were told the kids couldn’t go in the bar even though it was almost empty. We were shown to our table in an also empty dining room. We then explained the situation to the person in charge of the dining room who just shrugged. We asked if we could have our apertif at the table and see the happy hour menu - also a hard no as you only get that in the bar. It was suggested that we leave our daughters in the dining room and we sit in the bar - happy family birthday!
After that awful start we felt disinclined to drop RMB4000 with these guys so made our exit. It might be the best steak in town - we will never know - but the customer service sucks. But hey rules are rules - even when the place is empty.
