The Lion is a hot new restaurant and bar just opened in Ohrid, with the most sensational views of Lake Ohrid.
First and foremost the delightful owners and staff are an absolute pleasure, you feel incredibly welcome from the moment you arrive.
Secondly, the food will keep you coming back for more, traditional Macedonian, tapas and international fusion. Menu is designed to share with a range of options for all appetites.
Definitely try the Zucchini balls, they were heaven! Tacos and traditional beef dishes also a must!
The restaurant is beautifully designed, with modern and high quality furnishings, making it easy to spend the afternoon and evening relaxing with fine wines, cocktails and food with your friends.
The vibe and energy is infectious, definitely a local hotspot, feels like you are part of the family.
Not only great service, food and drinks, but you are also spoilt with untouched views of Lake Ohrid, perfect location to enjoy the magical sunsets of Macedonia.
We were spoilt with surprise live music from a guest during our visit:-)
A very big thank you to Bryan and Kathy (the delightful owners), Phillip (our very attentive waiter) and the rockstar bar crew who made us feel very welcome during our stay in Ohrid.
The Lion is the place to visit in Ohrid, you won't be disappointed.

The atmosphere was really nice and music wasn't at all loud (noticed some reviews complaining about that). The waiters were extremely attentive, checking in on us often and were friendly. Honestly, they were amazing.
The coffee was good. For food we ordered burgers which were great and pretty big so of you don't eat much consider splitting one with a friend. They were brought out quickly and were could make adjustments (i.e. remove certain ingredients) with no issues.
The prices are pretty in line with what I saw in other sit down restaurants in Ohrid, at least around the centre.

A Dutch restaurant in North Macedonia? We just had to try it as we are Dutch, and I can tell you with confidence you should try it too! The food is amazing, the portion sizes are perfect and the menu is varied. Allergen information is provided for each dish too.
The staff is very friendly too, the owner (Bryan) is very concerned about the quality and is very honest about waitingtimes, rushorders etc. He always has time for suggestions, questions or just a talk. The other servers are fast, professional and very kind, joking and laughing with you as they provide everything you need for a fantastic meal.
It was the first time we came here but it won't be the last!

First of all, just one week before the Easter holiday, the prices were more or less affordable and that is why we decided to visit the place again. But this time, we were shocked that the prices of the whole menu for food were increased by 30%! However, we decided not to leave because even that wouldn't have been a problem, if the food was superior which it wasn't. It is usual for restaurants in Ohrid to increase prices during the spring/summer season, however, 30% is too high for the service they are offering. The burgers we have ordered weren't good, the bread buns weren't fresh, in fact, it was obvious that they were kept in a freezer and then just defrosted, because the core of the bun was still cold and not fully defrosted. Definitely disappointed.

We have visited the lion twice in our stay in Ohrid. First visit we tried several of the tapas dishes and the lava cake dessert and they were excellent.
Second time we had a salad to share with lovely fresh ingredients and then very tasty pork and beef Asian wok mains. Of course the lava cake which just oozes out chocolate had to be sampled again 😊 Awesome place

It’s The most delicious food here in ohrid, the staff is the friendliest people and they’re so sweet and good to recognize if you need help with something. The Quality of the food is outstanding🤩 and the menu is also different than all the normal restaurants in ohrid. The price is also very good☺️

I'd liked to arrange a night to remember to my sons, my wife and my dear friends as it was my 70th anniversary.
I chose this place after reading the reviews about the restaurants in Ohrid and after visiting this place in advance and after discussing the details with Brian, the owner.
Here's my honest notes :
We were very earmly welcomed. Everything was exactly as I had agreed upon in advance.
The service was exceptionally fine and I was informed of every coming details well in advance.
I had ordered a combination of tapas and three large plates of different main courses following with a desert with 3 different choices and the judgement of this menu given by our "jury", the 10 participants, was almost too good to be true, everything tasted excellent, all the small details were well planned and taken care of.
We don't smoke, and we would appreciate no smoking in restaurants in Ohrid, but we understand, that we need to wait for some more years until it will be true. Also a bit lower volume of background music would make the visit nore enjoyable.
All in all, thank you Brian and your excellent team, you made my 70th anniversary an unforgottable expierence.

This place is very cozy, waiters are super friendly. There is an awesome view of lake. You have to sit on the terrace, the view is amazing.
I liked unusual choice of gin-toniks, we tried with mandarin and lavender.
Wine is cheap and tasty, tried vranec and it was perfect pair to local specialty - ribs.
Food is awesome, but be aware, the portions are huge. What is called warm tapas is a good plate for 1 person.
I definitely recommend this place.

I had breakfast here three days due to a deal with my accomodation, and each time it was really well prepared with great service - there's a nice selection of decently priced breakfast options, with my personal favourite being the 'Ohrid Breakfast,' although both the bacon Omelette and French Toast breakfast I had were really tasty too. Being right over the road from the lakeside you have really beautiful views both morning and night, while it's only a short walk from the centre and the old town meaning it can be less crowded outside than some of the others. I also came back on two evenings for my dinner and had absolutely fantastic three course meals both times, accompanied by local bottled beer - the Zlatan Dab Dark was my favourite of the ones I tried. The service was excellent on all occasions. Really worth a visit.

Did not live up to its reviews .
Staff although pleasant did not seem engaged .
Plates were not cleared.
Waiting staff seem to be backwards and forwards in and out of the restaurant, creating a very odd atmosphere.
Food was tasty , although an Asian dish said beef and came with pork .

After looking at the reviews we were looking forward to an evening meal here. It didn't start well,when the waiter talked and advised my husband on the wine and completely blanked me! We've had a couple of traditional meals in Ohrid and realise that dishes are served together. However, expected starters to be starters and main courses to be main courses here as the menu. Ordered nachos and cheesy peppers to start. Quite tasty but cold. Told the waiter this in the hope that our main courses would be hot. Unfortunately not! We ordered spare ribs and satay skewers. The waiter brought them to our table while we were still eating our starters. When we said we didn't want them until we'd finished they pulled the next table to ours and placed the mains there! Not surprisingly, when we got to eat them they were stone cold! We told the waiter this and he took them away to heat up. They came back luke warm and the rice was solid! Needless to say, the meal being twice the price of the local restaurant around the corner and not a patch on quality we will not be going again. Overpriced and disappointing. PS. All positive reviews previously from locals and not visitors!

The salmon fillet was best I've ever had. I had it medium rare with green sauce and veggies. I'm an experienced salmon fillet enthusiast and have tasted salmon files from around the world Australia to San Francisco in quality restaurants. The salmon I had here was first of all large size ~300g (usually restaurants serve half that size), and the second time I had it I ordered double portion. It was fresh and glossy like it's supposed to be and the preparation of the veggies and sauce was also first class as well. The service was caring and soulful. The view of the Ohrid lake, Ohrid city, and Kaneo doubles the experience. Would recommend 24/10.

We have been coming to the Lion for years. Bryan and Kathy, the owners, are friendly and always have a chat with you. This time we ordered the Lion's specialty, the baby ribs. With the Lion salad and the bruschetta and trio spreads. We had a really delicious meal, the slow cooked ribs were wonderfully marinated, delicious, and fell apart in no time, they were so tender! The salad was also very tasty, with prosciutto and orange, very special!
All in all great class! The price is a bit more expensive compared to the other restaurants, but when you eat there you immediately understand why. Macedonian food is tasty, but sometimes you just want something different 😋! The service is also very friendly and smiley, even though they are busy!

Sadly, was average. Ribs were good, location good and staff nice. However, ‘vegetables’ resembled frozen broccoli, not fresh broccoli, potatoes cold and the calamari and salmon unfortunately not worth the price. Calamari was nice but overpriced for what was presented. Noodle dish very small and not much to it. Owner said we should have said something but easier said than done as staff clearly busy. Hard to get their attention. Did swap wine over as first one (red) was freezing cold. So, I appreciated their help there.

I am very sorry to hear you did not like the vegetables (these are freshly prepared) and the potatoes where cold, this is absolutely not how it should be! Im glad the staff did change your wine to accommodate you. I hope we can have you again one day, so we can make up for the mistakes and things that where not to your liking.

Hello, I am a tourist from Austria, and I have already visited a lot of good restaurants in my home country Austria before. But now I felt in love with this one. The meals are nicely decorated and the food is made with love. On the Monitor in the corner of the room you can see the meals, that makes the decision of what you want to eat much easier. You can go there for breakfast, lunch or dinner the Menu is perfect for everything! I wish there were a restaurant like ,,The Lion" at my home....
I need to come here again!!!!
