Offering a raw bar, burgers, and home-cooked meals this restaurant was welcoming and comfortable. I had the Texas grass-fed beef burger which is a staple on the menu and I can see why locals would crave it and come often. And, with a side of salt and vinegar fries, my choice seemed made in heaven. My travel partner had the roasted chicken over a bed of cauliflower gratin. He enjoyed his meal as well. Both entrees were excellent comfort style food on a chilly night. The staff was pleasant and attentive. The decor was old pharmacy cupboards with the spices and condiments lined up as the 'medicinal' offerings for diners. Glad we found this spot

On this particular day they were only serving brunch at 12 noon. I was hoping to try the Veggie burger but instead ordered the chicken salad sandwich. Although the portion was large, the sandwich was dry and was not accompanied with any sides. Disappointing dish.
The shrimp and grits was very tasty and the serving portion was large.
Service was below average. The wait staff seemed unhappy and bothered.

Party of ten for dinner. Food was really tasty and the waiter provided excellent service which can be a challenge for large parties. Atmosphere nice Austin vibe. The entrée menu is very limited, basically one beef, a burger, one fish, one poultry and a couple vegetarian so recommend viewing the menu online before you go to see if they have something you would order. They were out of shrimp? which took my specialty cocktail and preferred appetizer off the menu. Portion sizes were on the small side, not enough to fill me up. Eating out has become so expensive, that being said when factoring in everything I would have to say the price point at this restaurant is out of line with the norm.

I paid $14.00 plus tax and tip for Big Brekkie for WILTED mixed greens, and ONE 1/2 inch wide of small avocado with two eggs, COLD grits and small MINI biscuit. I got the small avocado in place of bacon. I can't help feeling ripped off.

This is a good place for breakfast. Very unique Bloody Mary. The eggs were cooked perfect and the atmosphere was very Austin. My only complaint is that we had to wait a long time for our table and then were asked to leave as soon as we were finished because they had so many people waiting.

My fresh egg bowl had two unappealing eggs sitting on top of a pile of wilted greens. The waitress described a completely different dish when I asked about it. My daughter's pancakes had to returned because they were not cooked and had liquid batter on the underside. They gave us the wrong check and had a difficult time trying to rectify their error. It was a pathetic experience.

I hate to give one star when the food was overall good (although the flank steak was tough) but it took an hour just to take our order and dinner didn't arrive for 2.5 hours after we sat. No other way to rate this. Our server tried but clearly something very wrong was happening with the operation.

Had to grab a quick breakfast before leaving Austin, and this spot really delivered. I loved the decor, had great service the whole time and they were quite fast. The food was also very tasty, as was the coffee.

Came hear for breakfast recently.. couldn’t fault anything from the server to the very nice full breakfast .. Why restaurants put arugula on a breakfast is beyond me .. that aside very good.
If your staying close by you’ll enjoy your time here .. Comes recommended.. Enjoy !

Went to this restaurant for the first time this evening. The Hillside Farmacy is a hidden gem! The ambience is great with both indoor and outdoor seating. As it used to be an actual pharmacy years ago, it has a lot of pharmacy artifacts, which really adds to the decor. We caught the last 45 minutes of happy hour and enjoyed two dollar oysters from New England. They were delicious, super briny! Happy hour also has good drink specials. My husband had their burger and old-fashioned special (only on Wednesday night) for $20. The burger was great and the malted fries are exceptionally good. I had the mussels as an entrée, and they were on par with any that I’ve had in Europe. I highly recommend them. Our server, Hannah, was attentive, friendly, and gave good advice on menu items. We will definitely be going back!

The Burger was great but there were items listed on the menu they were out of. When the menu is already limited they should offer what they list. I found the background music a little loud to have a dinner conversation.

If you are in a hurry, this is not for you. But if you want a delicious meal in a relaxed, pleasant environment, then definitely stop. We were fortunate to have stopped on a very pleasant, cool night, and the restaurant was not crowded. The Brussels sprouts are a must-have. One of us had the scallops with orzo - outstanding - one of us had the Niçoise salad - yum - and one the hamburger. All were excellent and well worth the price. What we loved was that we did not have waiters constantly checking on us. They wanted us to have a nice time and were not pushing us to clear the table. We highly recommend this restaurant, both for its ambiance and for its quality!

We visited Hillside Farmacy during our recent visit to Austin for a long weekend. We were excited to support another restaurant locally sourcing their food, and arrived just before opening. As a line cued on the street, 9:00am came and went. Finally, at 9:10am or so, one of us tried the door, as no lights were on and no one came to open up the front door to let us know they were ready. I realize we could have checked, but anyone who works in food service knows people beating down the door before opening is obnoxious and we were trying to be respectful.
Once seated, we noted it was incredibly dark (no lights turned on) and the space smelled odd... a little dank and musty, which isn't super appetizing for a morning meal. Our server was nice enough, but forgot several items (coffee, then the cream, then the water, etc.) and often needed a reminder. If it had been slammed, I would have understood, but there were only a handful of tables seated, and lots of staff milling about.
We ordered the BBQ SHRIMP, LOBSTER GRAVY & GRITS and BRUNCHY MONTE CRISTO after our first option, the frittata, was not available. The shrimp and grits dish was tasty, but the gravy was sparse, and the grits were too dry. The monte cristo was good, but the bread was very soggy, which made the sandwich less-than-desirable after the first few bites. We also ordered biscuits which were overdone, and the butter was so hard it wouldn't spread and didn't taste like honey... just butter.
Overall, we had very high hopes for this restaurant, especially given the "Pharmacy" to "Farmacy" idea, and the "food as medicine" concept. However, if you're in Austin for a limited time, there are better options to try that provide a better overall experience.

Fun atmosphere - we had an afternoon drink at the bar - aperol spritz was good - unfortunately the bartender was not especially friendly, as we felt as if we were bothering him by being there. Too bad because we would have stayed longer, or gone back for dinner or brunch, had we felt welcomed there.

Hi,
I'm so sorry to hear about your experience at our restaurant. Do you remember roughly what time you were in that afternoon or what the bartender looked like? My apologies, Jade
