Incredible food, charming chef (his English is quite good!) and a beautiful interior. Great for couples and smaller groups (the entire bar has about 10 seats). The set menu is also quite a good deal at 8 dishes for 6000 yen--we were so full by...the end! Have been visiting Kyoto since about 2000, cannot recommend highly enough.More

I was looking to have with my wife a Keiseki food experience while in Kyoto and out of the many restaurants I found in Google, Sajiki Toshigami drew my attention. The place is very small sitting only 6-7 people on a bar style sitting around...the kitchen. However it makes the setting very private and close to the action as the great chef prepares and explains the content of each of the set menu plates. Total difference dishes I have ever had. The Sake was also very good.More

My husband researched a restaurant that could prepare a Hamo Course (the bones must be specially treated). The ratings/comments were good, so we reserved. It was a lovely kaiseki dinner, multiple courses prepared in various ways with Hamo starring in Sashimi, Sushi, Teriyaki, Tempura, and...Shabu-shabu. The soup from the Shabu-shabu had rice & egg added to make a zosui, and with the 3 amuse-bouche & dessert- it was a very interesting dinner. The sake recommendations were delicious, and the service was good. We had a hard time finding the place, sitting in the taxi right in front of the restaurant & not sure it was the correct place. The bicycles parked out front belonged to the locals came here. I had no expectations of the Hamo, but my husband raised in Kyoto had hoped that one dish would be that "Hamo-memory dish" his Grandmother used to cook for him as a child. Also, we were seated upstairs, maybe due to Covid19, but I missed any interaction with the chef.More

Had the 9- course meal here with my partner and it was amazing. Each dish was carefully and skillfully prepared by the chefs and it was reflected in the presentation and taste of the food. We particularly enjoyed the tempura, sashimi, and the dessert. The...dessert was delicious and we were impressed that they made their own chocolate. My partner enjoyed the soup with fish wrapped in rice cracker it was unique and we had never tasted a dish like that before. Thoroughly enjoyed our dinner here and would recommend if you are looking for a kaiseki experience in Kyoto or for amazingly high quality food in an intimate and authentic Japanese atmosphere.More

This place came recommended and my family and I came here for kaiseki lunch. Thankfully we had made a reservation prior to coming, as we observed walk-ins only being able to order a la carte from a small menu. Chef Hiroki was very attentive and...re-confirmed all our dietary requests which we had indicated during the reservation (e.g. some people didn't eat meat, some didn't eat raw food etc.). We had counter seats and could watch the chefs prepare and plate each course in front of us. Food was delicious and we especially liked the fresh sashimi and crisp (but not oily) tempura. Each course was small as is expected from a multi-course kaiseki meal, and was very nicely presented. And we were very full by the end of it! Chef Hiroki and his wife were also very warm and friendly to us throughout the meal, which made the entire experience really great.More

Stumbled on this little restaurant on the way back to our Ryokan from the train station. We had the 9 course set menu and were blown away by each dish. Very reasonable priced also. Can't recommend it highly enough.

We went there for dinner with our 17 yo son. My husband and son had the 5 courses menu - and I picked a few vegetarian items from the menu. We were seating at the counter which allowed us to watch as they prepared our...meal. Quite interesting. Everything was good fresh and nicely executed. Try the homemade tofu if you can. It is exceptional.More

Lovely multi course meal from this small, two chef kaiseki restaurant. We had about eight courses, all different and beautifully prepared. It was a very gaijin friendly restaurant, with both chefs having decent English. The sake was good too. This is a great choice if...you want kaiseki food at a reasonable price.More

Tofu to die for (was not on the menu), one of the best meals I had during my trip to Japan. Would absolutely recommend to anyone who likes tasty, good quality food. Loved this place and if I could, I would be back!

Recommended by the hotel we were staying at and it was a great recommendation! Easy to find, small and cozy, and the staff were all wonderful. We got the chef's choice 8 course menu and WOW! From the first dish to the last, we were...given one delicious surprise after another. We had the chef choose a few different sake's to be paired with the meal. It was quite a glorious meal to have on our first night in Kyoto. I would recommend getting a reservation as we almost didn't get seated as a walk in. Very English friendly!More

We went here for dinner after looking at positive reviews. We were not disappointed at all. We had a enjoyable and splendid dinner here with the eight dishes. We were met by a friendly staff, good introductions to each dish and a pleasant atmosphere. The...food was cared for and decorated like a Western gourmet restaurant - and the taste was delicious. We would highly recommend this place when in Kyoto.More
