Everytime i went to Penang, i always came here to eat dimsum. It’s been a long time since i visited this restaurant, the vibe was almost the same. Open in the morning 6.00 on weekend, we arive around 8.00 am. Queeing for a bit, and...after only 5 min we were placed in the gangway of the restaurant. We were given a piece of note for picking up the item we want from the couter in the back and they serve chinnese tea and clutery for eqting the dim sum. There were a lot of variation of the dimsum here, bun, porridge, somay and other steam stuff and they have dessert too. We order pi tan (100 yr eeg) porridge, somay, hakaw, char siew, 3 kind of bun and for dessert we ordered chryshantenum jelly. The food is delicious and warm, the dessert is sweet and uniqueMore

Extremely delicious dim sum!!! We loved their egg tarts especially and the har gao (shrimp dumplings), slightly chaotic ordering system with one aunty at a dim sum cart counter and other aunties behind another counter serving porridge/buns/glutinous rice but one of the aunties was nice...enough to help me with the ordering and even saying that she would bring the dish i ordered to my table once they prepared it. Very efficient as well even though it was quite crowded on a weekend brunch timing! 3 of us had our bill totalling to sgd24 extremely affordable considering the amount we ordered! Also really cool experience sitting almost right beside the curb while eating hahahMore

Tai Tung can be very busy, evenings, holidays and weekends. People still stand in line. Their BBQ pork buns are the best. Wonderful chickenfeet. Service is fast, precise and routine. The staff work hard to make your visit pleasant and memorable. Sit back, sip your...tea and take a nice trip back in time.More

I wanted to go to Tai Tong based on the positive reviews it has received. Also I enjoy a good dumpling or two. I literally stumbling upon it walking down to the harbour and thought now is the time. I ordered only dumblings and steamed...shumai of which all tasted freshly made and had good flavours. Service was prompt and friendly. And when I saw the bill I could hardly believe it - such incredible value ! Tai Tong was packed when I went and I was lucky to get a table straight away but I think be prepared to wait.More

We ate far too much but hard to resist all the delicious dim sum! We had about 20 dishes ( for about £20 in total). It was one of our first restaurant visits whilst on holiday in Penang and hopefully not our last. Thank you.

I went with my family in the late morning to avoid the weekday office crowd. There were 2 tables left and we quickly sat at a table. We were then asked to go to a table to order what we want, its a self service...but I did see an aunty pushing a dim sum cart. I guess it depends if anyone has time tp push the cart. This is an old school eatery, managed by aunties and uncles, so do not expect much customer service. I do agree with most reviews that the dim sum are not the "Wow" type which makes me want to go back again. They are decent food and prices are affordable.More

Love this place for dimsum. Went on a Sunday late morning/lunch time and it was packed so had to wait 30 minutes but worth it. You simply walk up to the dimsum lady and tell her which dishes you like from what she has on...the steamers. Star dish les for us were the prawn chee cheong fun and siew mai! The place was nicely decorated for mid-autumn festival as well.More

It's close to our hotel and opens very early for breakfast. We came in the 1st morning while we're in George Town. No impressed with the taste and quality of dim sums. Maybe it's just us, as many locals are eating here.

The dim sum was decent but the pleaser was the cooked food (such as fried rice, fried carrot cake etc) from the a la carte menu.

Located near Kimberley Street, Tai Tong serves up a variety of dim sums. After reading up on the reviews and having a local recommend us there, my partner and I decided to give it a try! We ordered our usual favourites in which we felt...would best determine the standards of the dim sums: Chee Cheong Fun (Rice Noodles), Har Gao (Prawn Dumplings), Chicken Claw/Feet and the Fried Beancurd Roll. The best of it all for me was the Chicken Feet/Claw. It had the closest taste to the ones that I had since I was young. The rest were overrated. The chee cheong fun with prawns were lacking in ingredients, was slightly mushy and sauce was too sweet for my likings. As for the Har Gaos, the skin was thick and had a flour taste to it. The beancurd skin was just alright, not flavourful. Our guess as to why it is pretty well-rated and crowded is because there are very little dim sum restaurants around in Georgetown and this is probably the best and oldest brand out of all of them. Will this be a go to when I visit Georgetown again? Maybe? If I do have some random cravings, or else, it’s not a must have. 😬More
