This place is just beyond words. Ok the food is not just fantastic as expected but surprising and original and quirky and wholesome and organic. Drinks pairing also. Family and friendly feeling service. I arrived solo and so did another guest. We chatted a bit...and they stuck us together on a table…. They facilitate this they’re natural and friendly. Once we couldn’t eat another morsel, and after a home brewed Panamanian coffee, they invited us to see the test kitchen where various machines out of sci-fi made us a cocktail!!!More

We had great expectation, the start was very promising. the host (the mother) was very nice and welcoming from the start. The place looks very nice and cosy. The menu ($150 pp) was already explained to us en so we added also the drinks pairing...menu ($75pp). The food that came out was good but not fantastic. everything was plated very beautifully and the chef explained every dish very nicely. Didn’t understand the choices of drinks, it was more of an experience than pairing. Also almost everything we ate and drank that evening had some form of fermentation. Somewhere in the middle of the menu we started to get a fuzzy feeling because of al the different kinds of drinks. Most of the wines were natural wines which we are not very found of. We were alone in the restaurant. At first I thought that we were to early (7:15pm) but around 9 pm there were still nog other guests. So we ended up having a private dinner for 2. By the almost end we decided to skip the tea and coffee because we were tired, we had been sitting there for over 3.5 hours, we didn’t have much to talk about anymore and we were already so full. Than the chef invited us for a tour of his “lab” where he showed us how to make an cocktail by using special food laboratory instruments. This was a nice extra and we could see that the chef is very passionate about cooking and experimenting. He and his teams mean very well but with these prices the expectation were not met. Although we were given 2 well-tasting carrot cakes to take home, the final check of $575 excluding tip for just 2 guests left a bad taste.More

I was very excited to visit Risen on my trip to PC and made a reservation over a month in advance. I then received an email from them 24 hours before my reserved time, informing me that they had booked the restaurant for a private...event and would no longer be able to accommodate my reservation. I'm not sure if they had booked this private event long ago and not informed me until the night before, or just booked it the day before my reservation, but either way this was disheartening and disappointing. Would have back up plans when booking a reservation here.More

Chef Hernan and his staff put together a menu that highlights Chef Hernans talents as well as locally sourced products. His love for the culinary arts shines through in every dish. He was kind enough to give us a tour of his "lab". The area...where he creates his dishes. Such an honor to have met this disciplined young man and been able to experience his skillfully crafted interpretation of Panamanian Cousine. This ranks amongst my most prized eating experiences. We loved it so much we went twice. If you're in Panama City and cherish the art of cooking do not miss this oppurtunity.More

Definitely one of the top meals I've ever eaten. Every course (except the mackerel) was exquisite. With excellent English the chef came to our table and explained sources of the food, preparation and instructions on best method to mix. Presentation was beautiful, use of stones...and stoneware, with attentive yet non hovering staff. All the ingredients are from their family farm or known neighbors. The drinks were varied and more of an experience that actual pairings but all excellent. The lemongrass tea at the end of the meal especially tasty. My favorite was the red claims and sweet onion. I closed your eyes and experienced the melding of flavors like I never have before. A must do for any one seeking a wonderful relaxing culinary delightful evening. Plan to stay for 3 plus hours.More

The experience at Riesen was awesome, a private dinner, with the whole farm to table experience; long time ago I wanted to visit this restaurant, and didn’t disappoint. The tasting menu was exceptional, the whole interaction with the chefs during every course made it more...fascinating. We even had the chance to see the lab where all the magic happens. Makes me happy to see these kind of experiences in Panama.More

Riesen is a hidden gem in Panama City. We were pleasantly surprised with an overwhelmingly exquisite culinary experience (and we currently reside in Manhattan, NYC). The 10 course tasting menu was more than enough food as was the wine pairings. Each dish was thoughtfully created...with elaborate ingredients and presentation. The Chef cooks everything on a coal fire grill outside. We sat at a table by the window overlooking the grill and were able to watch our meals being prepared. The food is organic and kosher. Every bite was full of dynamic creations. The red clams, aged duck and sancucho were beyond amazing. I have no complaints other than having an abundant amount of great food. This is certainly Michelin star worthy dining. The ambience was a rustic and trendy modern vibe. Best restaurant in Panama this far. We highly recommend and will certainly return! Thank you for a wonderful experience!More

I was hesitant to try the restaurant based on the mixed reviews. I’m glad I trusted my gut and tried it out. It was fresh, interesting and delicious. I’m not sure why other reviewers had negative things to say. The staff was so friendly. The...chef takes his craft serious and I believe it is his mother at the front of house who is just lovely. The food was amazing and this restaurant doesn’t get enough praise. Should definitely have a Michelin star! If you are in Panama, check it out. It is a preset menu but worth trying!More

I found this restaurant online, and decided to take a chance showing up at their door to see if they could accommodate two at the last minute. We had no idea what a transcendent experience we were about to have. I was unaware of the...multi-course tasting menu paired with beverages (beer, cocktail, white wine, red wine, tea, grappo). I was unaware this was farm to table, from their own farm. Every course was amazing, fresh, inventive - truly a meal I will remember forever. So grateful to the chef and his staff for accommodating us and providing such a memorable and noteworthy experience.More

Let us dine like we have not (for the most part) dined before. Anytime we feel like family in another country is great. We the Mom is chatting with us and the Son is preparing food for us we are fortunate. Now if you accompany...that with a tasting menu that would make Gordon Ramsey jealous you have a hit. Each course was explained to perfection and eaten to perfection. Thank you for the experience.More

This restaurant I feel is so close to being a great restaurant, but they really struggled in my visit. It's a prefix 8 course meal. Presentation is fantastic. All the plates look incredible. That said only some of them are delicious and for the price...I had somewhat higher expectations. Also, they really really struggled in the service category. I got the tasting plus drink pairing. They were already forgetting the drinks by the second course and I ended up having to ask them 3 times for the drink that accompanies the plate. There were some prolonged gaps between the dishes, again at $150 a person you have slightly different expectations. There was plenty of food, I left full for sure. Overall an enjoyable experience, but really missed on the cost/value consideration.More

Walked into Riesen as the doors opened at 7 and was welcomed to a quaint, small, very intimate place. The fixed 8 course meal was incredible. All foods were prepared and made in the restaurant and all foods sourced locally. The cuisine itself was extremely...authentic. The servers were great and the woman/hostess explained every intricacy of the 8 course meal In detail(in English). All 8 courses were incredible. If you re looking for a way to taste local Panama, this is the place.More
