There are to too class restaurants in Yogyakarta and it can’t be helped that you compare Sixsenses to Mediterranea, located a few minutes apart. Six senses have a lovely setting with wood panels and roof and opens up to a fantastic courtyard with trees and...a lawn, but food is lacking a bit in finish. Carpaccio wagyu was nice but a bit uninspired. More alarming was that several items from the web site was crossed out in the menus we were given: no octopus or ceviche for example, which limits choices and give a haphazardly impression. Beef rib eye was ok, but not tender enough. Overall, Mediterranea next door easily wins when it comes to the food.More

The setting is beautiful. I really hope this place gets its act together because it should be so good and the two times I went there were almost no other customers. Don't order a cocktail - they have no idea. The wine is all Hatten....It's disappointing for visitors to have an expensive meal with beer or juice. The food I had was variable in quality - but the second time I went I tried to order six things before I found something they actually had (the salmon which they kept pushing me towards) which was overcooked but tasty. The advertised online menu is very different from the actual menu. The prawn entree was delicious but they come with the shells on (unfortunately the prawn dish on the online menu is not available), it's very messy and there is no finger bowl. The seasoning offering - off the charts! Exceptional and a wonderful accompaniment to the prawns (when they have them, they weren't available the second time I went). The mushroom entree was also very good. The space is uncomfortably hot. They don't have any fans because they have aircon - but the room only has only two walls so open to the elements and the a/c (if working) does nothing. If they put in some ceiling fans instead of the aircon, get a bartender who can prepare the advertised cocktails, maybe some international wines and actually have the items on the menu (especially the online one) it could be a truly great restaurant. Fingers crossed!More

Ordered a starter and a main course. Got it at the same time. Considering the Price of the evening, it didnt match. Food was ok, but not more than that.. Seemes like a very expensive fast food restaurant, where the objective was to get People...in and out fast. We Wont come back.More

This is so high end that I wanted to dislike it given I was In Java and snub my nose at westernized food. But this place is very special. The beef rendang is so special you MUST come for it. The lamb leg is great...too. The clam app is super. The pasta with olive oil and garlic is a sleeper great. This feels like a high end celebration of Javanese food not an escape. Go for a special occassion.More

After 6-hour drive from Surabaya where we had our wedding, my husband and I decided to see Borobudur. We arrived late and the ticket agent was very kind to let us know that it is not worth to see Borobudur in 20-mins. Although we were...disappointed but we found this GEM in our road trip. Initially - we just want to stay in Malioboro and we end-up here. The restaurant offered Valentine set menu, but we didn't reserve and we just going with the flow. We ordered steak, which was ok. When I say ok - it meant that it is not bad but could be better. I believe it is in Indonesia - steak is costly and the quality are very hesitate. The restaurant is stunning with walls are made from crafted wood - teak wood. Live band was playing with creative acapella slow rock song. Ah........ you should try visit the wine cellar, it is limited choice but they do have decent wine for special occasion. Yes - in Indonesia, wine or any liquor are expensive due to tax etc. I think the chef is SPANISH. Garden salad - must try.More

Good food with good services. The prawn tapas was excellent. The Angus steak was delicious. Cost about US$20 to US$25 per person without alcohol.

Great ambiance from entrance to restaurant and big outdoor area, live music was pleasant; appetizers yummy, main courses were ok however the seafood paella was sold out and the vegetable paella was average at best.

I don’t usually find myself writing restaurant reviews, yet this dining experience left me utterly disappointed. The first crack appeared in the interior. Typically, a book isn’t judged by its cover - in this case that was very much the opposite. The restaurant was soaked...in a dull, tedious atmosphere with mismatched and clashing color pallets. Simply put, the place felt distant, and uncomfortable. Service and hospitality weren’t their strongest suits, either. The waiters were inattentive, and missed some of the orders. Another issue came with the wine selection. One of the attendants gave us a list, and gestured to walk to their wine cellar to pick a bottle. As soon as I entered the room, the sommelier began with a sturdy, “What do you want?” There were no recommendations from him, and I quite didn’t see the point of walking over to the cellar, when I could’ve just as well poked my finger across the list? The biggest plunge of the experience was the food. Apart from the poorly constructed, tasteless dishes, they arrived at our table in less than ten minutes. Although waiting for food isn’t one’s favorite part of dining, it raised a few flags. We ordered steaks, poultry dishes, and pasta - meals that take at least twenty minutes to compose. The meat wasn’t as hot, which only lead to believe that the food was prepared in advance and plainly re-heated before being served. If you happen to be there, highly refrain from ordering steaks, especially the Wagyu. For a “chef” from Spain itself, the paella, considered one of the most sensual Spanish dishes, lacked taste, if there was any. Words barely express the dissatisfaction we were left with. A mere thanks to one of the waiters who tried their best to uplift the mood throughout the evening. This was by far the worst diving experience we had in years.More

We chose SixSenses to celebrate our wedding anniversary as it is our favourite Yogyakarta restaurant and it did not disappoint. Atmosphere was a little lacking as it was a Tuesday and the restaurant was very quiet, but the beautiful setting and delicious food and cocktails...made it a perfect evening.More

I went there wity a friend of mine. We went it and turn that all sofas are reserved booked by other guest. When i would like to sit down, the waitress mostly say that table already reserved. So we end up in a table by...the stairs to the yard. We order a steak, a salad, and 2 glasses of wine and something else i did not remember. The food all excellent, perfect, in fact they are one of the best in Jogja. Then here comes the chef, walking the table next to us, a bule with a tanned local girls, we arrive earlier than them. So lets see what they order, somewhat one food and 2 bottles of bintang beers. The chef greet them, have a chat, talk this and that. And after that they misses us, i understand that we are transparent with our skin color. Where i came from, there is a always packed resto, Massimo in sanur, came there many many times, everytime the chef walks and greet thee guest, he always greet all skin color. So who knows, that bule in 6th senses jogja was his friend, but i wouldnt count it. Chef asked for his name before they chat. Finally, we had a little, or tiny respect from the waitres, when i sked for the bill and i pay with my titanium credit card. But jussst a litlle respect and it feels swift. For the food and wine, i happy for it say 5 stars. But dining is not the food, the experience, the happines after meal instead of stomach full.More
