As a western visitor, one does not expect to find the best dim-sum restaurant in 'City Hall'. But then, Hong Kong does not conform to the 'expected. If you do have the opportunity to eat here, try to visit early (before mid-day) and during the week, when your competition for a table are office workers. The place is enormous, but... More

This is a well located restaurant with trolleys serving dim sum. Choose the dish you like and share. Best with a large group. There is higher quality and more sophisticated places to eat in Hong Kong ', but this will be most memorable because of the atmosphere.

We went here as it was recommended by Hong Kong friends of ours. We wanted a good yum cha place and asked for lots of recommendations. We arrived about 11.15 on a weekday and it was half empty, which was great for us as there was no queue. We started too fast, taking everything that was offered to us, but... More

We had dimsum here and liked it very much. The freshness and warmth of the dimsum and a good place to eat it really makes this place awesome to have dim sum. Dimsum served in trolleys moving here and there offering it in the small bamboo baskets and plates. Very nice experience.

took my family to Maxims at City Hall as it was always a favourite place growing up, the noise, the food and the view. Well the view out the window may have changed with teh waterfront almost 1/2 mile away, but the noise and chatter and atmosphere as good as ever and the dimsum was good. My children loved it,... Wanted to savour some dim sum while in Hong Kong and was recommended this place, Maxim's Palace at City Hall, Central. This restaurant is rather difficult to find for first-timer as it is located at the back part of the City Hall building. It a very popular place and crowded, frequented by the local too. Today was a Easter Friday,... More

Despite a renovation that brought in crystal chandeliers, the food remains authentic, good and the food ladies rudely fun. The dim sum ranges from something a westerner like me likes to chicken feet that that my friends devour.

Waiting for an hour for a table of 2 today. Har gow was wrapped in prawn paste and siew mai tasted starchy. There was no pan fried carrot cake. If you are here for quality dim sum, give it a miss. There are loads of other better dim sum else where.

We took a while to find this place. Don't be fooled when you see the Maxim's Cafe. Maxim's Palace is one floor up and it is stunning. The place looks very elegant and if you get sick of looking at the room, you and look out over the Harbour - very nice. They do yum cha with carts, the difference... More

We met a local friend here for breakfast and learned that most folks in HK love to run to things. As soon as the door was opened, folks ran in through City Hall (yes, really an administrative building, not a mall) and scaled the stairs to get a place in a palatial dining room. Our host ordered from carts that... More

Staying in Central

Neighbourhood Profile
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
