Back when some of our friends lived on Gough Street, we would always see queues for this place whenever we visited. And it’s easy to see why: this has to be one of the most affordable places to eat in Central/Sheung Wan, coming in at...HK$68 for a sandwich, a bun and a drink. Both of my food items were really tasty, excellent examples of their type, though I really wish they did a club sandwich on the menu!! Plus one of the benefits of being forced to use the LeaveHomeSafe app is that I know I was in and out of there in just under 25 minutes. Speedy, and friendly too with decent English spoken. For any HK-ers or future tourists (remember them?) searching for the imagined or actual ‘authentic side’ of the city, this is also a rare example of a restaurant or cafe on HK Island with outside seating on plastic stools so eating here feels like a cool throwback as well, even in the rain like today.More

This is a go to Hong Kong local restaurant, located in the hear of SOHO in Gough Street, it specializes in tomato based noodle dishes and simple sandwiches which are tailored to how the local Hong Kongers like it. Noodles normally come in preset combos...likes luncheon meat & eggs or scrambled eggs & corned beef. You can also make your own combo (look at the back of the menu) to your liking. Other than noodles, their toasted buns with condensed milk and butter are also a core staple and must-order. Recommend the crispy toast over all others by a mile. Service is average or I would say normal for these kinds of restaurants in Hong Kong and is part of the experience. Price-wise, it's like 40-50 HKD per person for noodles, drink, and toast. Since I am not really a tomato person, personally, I would place this at an average but with the queue lines, it's likely between 4 and 5 and has stood the test of time as being a staple eating place in SOHO.More

Classic macaroni or instant noodles cooked in tomato beef broth. Remember to order the condensed milk bun too! Lots of office workers come by for a quick lunch fix or tea break.

Been to this place many times over the years, still IMHO not a place I would trek long distance to come to. Though I'm well aware because through various guidebooks, vblogs etc the Dai Pai Dong has become A MUST GO place. I beg to...differ. Their most popular dishes are easily duplicable and found in many Cha Chaan Tengs (HK style cafes). Their top dishes include: Tomato beef noodles in it's various forms. You can change noodles to macaronis, rice noodles etc. Add other meat/egg choices. Most of them are prepped before hand except the ramen which is cooked on the spot. Then they just put all ingredients in a bowl, ladle their famous tomato broth and some fresh chopped tomatoes from a big vat, and voila $31 for the current price which at most other places it will be less. Tastewise I really didn't think it's that special. Broth was somewhat bland taste. Granted they do use the canned tomatoes Metelliana from Italy, but it's not even the top 5 brands. Next popular item is their crunchy toasted buns with choices of sweet toppings. Lemon honey with butter being one of them. At $21 it was slightly pricey, normal for Central District though. Again, for me, any good toast done right and slathered with your favorite jam or marmalade will be delicious. Long queues are the norm which I avoided each time. This visit on a weekday around 10am with a drizzle kept the line away. And since it's mostly outdoor dining with tarps overhead, eating here during summer would be brutal because of high humidity. If you are by the area and first time, by all means come and experience what old HK used to be like for this genre of food and it's atmosphere.More

This place is not that difficult to locate but there are waiting time. The food honestly is average and service staffs are all elderly ladies and 1 of them is quite rude. This is a typical street stall food so please dun expect AC or...a very clean environment.More

Being a local, I have always been asked for authentic local food recommendation. "Dai Pai Dong (open-air food stall)" used to play an important role in HK food history back then and is always good for tourist to experience. To be honest, the food nowadays...in dai pai dong isn't the best anymore. The toast and tomato soup noodle here taste just so-so and many "Cha Chan Tang (tea restaurant)" serve better taste. If you come here purely for food, it may disappoint you. However I would still recommend to my oversea friends as the focus is not on food but the vibe. The other Dai Pai Dong option apart from Sing Heung Yuen is Bing Kee in Causeway Bay Tai Hang. Personally I think Bing Kee's food is better but they only serve classic noodle not tomato soup noodle.More

They serve one of the best tomato noodle in town. It’s an authentic dai pai dong or roadside stall. Their bread is also very nice. Worth the trip here but be prepared to share table for even one small table.

We stayed in Kowloon area and so we took a cab down to HK island. Due to language barrier, we got the cab to drop us somewhere nearby. Thus, we walked for around 15mins under scorching sun before we found the place. And guess what?...The stall owner was cleaning already, close for the day. It’s a Saturday morning 9am plus! Totally wasted our time, effort and money to cab down. Try at your own risk, we won’t be visiting again for sure.More

Place was abit hard to find. Depending on which direction you are coming from, you might need to walk down a flight of stairs like I did before you reach the stall. Its a dai pai dong, so it will not be as clean or...presentable. Shared the table with others. It was really hot, and there were only a few fans going around. You have to strive to catch the service staff's attention. Got the tomato noodles with luncheon meat and egg, and the lemon "cui cui" as they call it. Got served pretty fast. I find the tomato noodles so so, but that lemon crisp buns is so good! Condensed milk and some sour lemon sauce? Texture of the buns is quite special. When i left around 1pm, there wasnt much people. Oh and they dont open on Sundays.More

The star is their tomato beef soup served with your choice of noodles or macaroni. While I wouldn't say it's the best, it's still a satisfying bowl. The real star, in my opinion would be their condense milk toasted bun. It's buttery, crispy and sweet....We ordered 2 plates of it and the kids wanted more after it was finished. We placed order for one more plate but was refused. I had no idea why I couldn't order one more even though it wasn't crowded. They just waved me off and said no more. My frds had similar experiences. There were cockroaches running around the walls and by the drain while we were dining.More
