Lan Fong Yuen can be said to be one of the oldest tea restaurants in Hong Kong. Their facade still retains the original design, full of traces of the times☺️ . You can eat a lot of classic tea restaurant food here, but unfortunately the quality varies, and it seems that most of them are catered to tourists😬 . In fact, if you usually pass by, you can buy a cup of milk tea to take away. Their milk tea is always authentic, silky and delicious👍🏻 . But in terms of food, there are actually many high-quality tea restaurant options in Hong Kong. Unless you want to enjoy the atmosphere, you may be disappointed in the food. . It has always been regarded as one of the famous shops in Hong Kong, and everyone is recommended to try its milk tea🧋

Lan Fong Yuen is a local tea shop and cha chaan teng that first opened in 1957. They have a few branches around the city including this little place on Gage Street in Central where you can try HK style dishes and their locally famous milk tea, made with traditional method of using silk stockings. Opening hours are 7.30am to 6pm daily (closed on Sundays) This Lan Fong Yuen can be quite busy and you'll often find a queue waiting outside to be seated or for a take-away milk tea. The tea (HK$22) is really good if you enjoy HK style milk tea. It is strong, smooth and silky in texture and of good flavour, worth trying if you're a tea drinker or simply interested in local drinks popular here in Hong Kong.

Had a milk tea here, as it is all over social media as the place to go to have one. Having tried it I can say it wasn't any more special than other milk teas I've had in Hong Kong. In fact, it was more salty than others and much more pricey. If you're passing by, you may aswell stop and try it. If not, don't go out of your way for it.

I did not have a good experience and I feel this place is overrated all over social media. Milk Tea is a little bit diluted and the noodles is not bad but not worth the queue. The servers are grumpy and yelling at you. They kept asking me to move from one spot to one another spot before I could order. In addition to this you need to spend a minimum amount of HKD40 to be seated inside. My overall comment is if you are spending HKD70 the least for a meal at Lan Fong Yuen, you can actually dine anywhere else without having grumpy servers, cramp spot to eat, eating with stress

milk tea was diluted and very very small. disappointing. have to spend at least hkd40 per person seated inside, not for small eaters. french toast is not bad, i like that we can choose how much honey to put by ourselves. noodles is ok-ok, can be dry. still too much for small eaters to finish hkd40 amt of food per person very rushed and cramped environment, but typical of hong kong style cafes. well air conditioned though

Was doing a walking tour of Hong Kong and we stopped at this place to try Hong Kong style milk tea, which is known to be sieved through a material similar to a woman’s stocking. 25 HKD for an average sized cup. Did have some flavour but was on the lighter side. Worth it to try but I didn’t head back for a second helping.

Milk tea "silk hose style", kaya French toast etc are basically Hong Kong peasant food back in the days when they were fast and cheap. This place now has several branches and withstand the test of time and gain a following, mostly tourists. With pandemic tourists trade stopped so it was an opportune time for me to visit again as I detest waiting long queque for something that I really cannot discern a big difference among competitors. Milk tea and kaya toast was $38, more than average. The tea came lukewarm and toast you have to pour syrup from the ultra sticky jar. Overall it was very average and if not because I was in the area, I would not even bother.

It has been one of the logest existing cafe haven’t been around for more that 60 years. With all the decades of serving the classic milk tea, they remained popular to both locals and visitors. They also serve breakfast. It is located near the central market and a walk away from the mid-level escalators.

It's a very well known eatery in Central as it has run for many decades. It's famous for instant noodles with meat, pork chop bun, french toast, and of course milk tea. I had ox tongue laksa noodles, pork chop bun and salty lemon 7-up drink for lunch here. Portion small. Taste so so, not wow for me. The drink is special though. Surprisingly the staff are nice and polite (staff in many eateries in Hong Kong became snobbish soon after the place has been well known and popular 😒) I think this place worths support from people for its survival for many more decades to come.

I was craving for some instant noodles so came here randomly. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★ Instant noodles with chicken steak: I had no expectations because my first visit at TST branch was crap. When the noodles arrived, you could see the chicken had been fried so I was expecting dry chicken, but it was actually still soft and juicy. The chicken skin was crispy too. The noodles were done just right and were still springy but the sauce was not evenly tossed into the noodles because towards the bottom, it got saltier. ★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★☆★

I went there because it's a famous French toast shop. It's a tourist spot. The shop is near Katori Shingo's street art. I had the classic French toast and milk tea. It's a Hong Kong-style milk tea. It was rich and delicious.

Great place for HK milk tea. Service is fast. I paid with cash and spoke Cantonese. Location is great. There were a few people posing with the place outside.

Lan Fong Yuen founded in 1952, originally a Dai Pai Dong (Open Air Food Stall) now occupies a hole in the wall shop, although keeping it's classic green stall & shade cloth preserved. Located on Cage Street and known for it's long line of customers this place can be easily missed. Famous for creating the original silk stocking milk tea & French toast. Again with this shared table style of dinning we were served in no time. The French toast has a generous egg batter with a crispy exterior with a soft centre. Pairing this with the HK style milk tea ("Silk Stocking"). Although famous I was not impressed which was super disappointing - maybe my expectations were too high. Don't know if I would spend an hour queuing - as we were lucky to walk straight in Can say I have been there now -- interesting

…which is worth four stars in Central as there are few other places that are either nearby. My sandwich and iced lemon tea were far from the best that local HK cafes have to offer but as mentioned above the speed and price make it worthwhile if you’re in a hurry!

We bought a cup of milk tea at HKD25. The milk tea is tasteless, not creamy at all. We felt cheated and regretted despite good comments by Youtubers.

Central
When people think of Hong Kong, most imagine movies with famous skyscrapers dominating the skyline. The area widely known as Central is the major financial hub and entertainment district, which truly lives up to the saying, “work hard, play hard.” Bars stay open late into the night and there just happens to be a street party every weekend. Although everything seems to be operating at lightning speed, Central is full of quiet, hidden gems. Nestled between office towers are wet markets and some of the city’s oldest restaurants dating back to the 1960s. Feeling a bit overwhelmed? Retreat from the crowds by exploring beautifully restored historical buildings and even a green oasis of botanical gardens.
